    I was desperate to be a bricky when I left school and was on course for an apprenticeship before my parents brought it to a halt - "get an office job, it's easy work, better on your joints when you're older blah blah blah" basically it's led to 11 years of mind numbing work when I could've been outside, learning an amazing skill, self employed, being creative. Listen guys anyone reading this, learn from others mistakes, not your own. Get out there and seize the day

    Not a criticism of the work, but the pillar looked far better beforehand when it actually matched the brickwork of the wall it was attached to. Now it just sticks out like a sore thumb. Jobs like this also seem like a boundary dispute waiting to happen, considering a least two thirds of the pillar is directly in front of the neighbour's garden, and only a small portion adjoins the fence.

    I watch your work Stu as a retired Uni grad and have said for many years having an apprenticed trade, plumber, chippy, brickie, sparky beats the hell out of an academic work life. I realise it can be cold and wet but you're a prime example of superb craftmanship. People always look for a tradesman who works nearby and see a good job being done---' when you've finished that I have an extension needs building' The public look with their eyes, beats any adverts.

  • @citywalker44
    @citywalker44 3 роки тому +6

    Great bricklaying Stu.
    But my amp is with wasteful customers who always want to break something which is perfectly fine, just for matching colours and textures. I understand it gives business to the trade, but if waste overall was a primary concern I’d think planet would do just much more better. I’ve recently bought so much of construction materials from a yard who salvaged brand new items from HS2 project, and it was only responsible for 2-3 miles of it. But HS2 is 100s of miles and waste is astronomical hence the cost of it spiralling out of control each year. It’s already costing taxpayers 5-10 x more than initial estimate. UniS should teach waste management too

    I just made outdoor water tap structure with solid bricks. Although I used spirit level it is slightly inclined, happily not obviously (especially if you watch my yard from flying airplane high above)✈️😜
    I learned from this video that all what's needed was just a little more attention and control to make it straight: I was using eye many times to direct me instead of my spirit level, big mistake.
    For others: use primarely your leveler all the time, just as author presented here. Also pay attention on brick distance, which is IMHO harder to achieve with solid bricks than with hollow bricks. Pay att. how he immediately removes excess mortar, so he can use spirit level to adjust position. right a way.
    Fine video, thank you.

    Nice tidy pointing work, pal. No slop on the Bricks.
    I have a couple of questions if you don't mind.
    1. I note you torpedo level for every course but only every two course when checking for plum. Is that OK? Or just preference.
    2. After how How many course do you need ties? 4/5 courses?? And is it ok to tie into the older mortar joint rather than the existing brick. I guess it doesn't matter, but I would appreciate any info.
    Much appreciated. 👍
