@Miss Manawaka People don’t always get married for love, that’s actually extremely naive. For a lot of people, it is merely a transaction, a contract. For some, it’s for financial security, for others it’s comfort or company and in this case Tim needed around the clock help for himself and his autistic son. Legally it helped and once he died, he knew she would never leave his son alone. On top of that, in terms of finance, living together & her reputation in a small town, not to mention being an actual mother to a child who already has trouble adjusting to the world. It was actually pretty noble of her to even offer to sacrifice her happiness and put a dying man and autistic child before herself. The fact that you guys are even having this debate proves that.
@Miss Manawaka The character in the book and the movie very clearly state that they felt they did the right thing for the Tim and his son & even Tim told John that she sacrificed her happiness & love for him to do so because she has always had a big heart and she didn’t want to leave them without any support, they were essentially alone at the end of the day & required substantial aid and time, so yes it was a noble deed. It’s like, sis, nobody told you to marry him. You could have helped out with the son and his dad without having to marry him. Like I said in the beginning, she was trifling.
Savanah had a big heart and John knew it to the very first time they met. People should read the book to understand this clearly. Both her parents died while John was away and it was Tim who was with her the whole time. They were there for each other. She did not cheat or anything like that as some comments say. She slowly fell in love with Tim which explains her letters becoming lesser as time went by. She told John all this in her letters. They loved each other clearly but life happens and it steers us away into unexpected directions. Also at the end of the book, John wanted to know if she still loves him so he went to see for the last time if she ever went out to watch the full moon like they used to, as a symbolic way of saying they love and think of each other, and she went outside to watch the full moon. And it was enough for John to know she loves him still. She is not the villain here. Nobody is. Thats how good this story is. Nobody's a villain. It's just that life happens.

she didn’t have an affair. she married the guy legally to have custody of the son and to take care of him but the marriage was in name only not physical/romantic
Actually she cheated on him ... Ending was shit as they ended up together Which her character doesn't deserve. Movie teaches us true love doesn't exist in long distance relationship.
So many of Nicholas Sparks's novels glorify infidelity....it was seen in Notebook, Dear John, The choice...it's all brushed aside for romantic escapism and melodrama. The person is never held accountable for their actions. His books are actually misery porn and nothing else.
I remember back in high school, was trying to join the military and my buddy was talking about joining up too. He tells the girl he was with about wanting to join but she says I may not stay loyal. Thinking back, I don’t think he was serious about it, the girls we were going after just weren’t shit, and honestly fuck those years. Gives me a good laugh though thinking about that stuff
This is one of my favorite Nicholas Sparks because I really love John. Savannah I only liked because of how much John loved her. As a person, I am annoyed that she gave up to fast
She couldn't just help the guy and not marry him while her boyfriend was trying to live another day while at war. Oh yeah, that was really hard for her!
I read this book in high school and I read the last third of it in class one day not realizing it was going to make me break down like a little baby. I cried so hard, so embarrassing but the book was so sad.
This wasn't a scene in the novel. They have a calm reheated dinner with wine. She explains slowly falling in love with Tim as he comforts her during the deployments, after his parents' fatal car crash, and helping him take care of his brother (Alan). She does mention that John reupping and not being able to see her for his 3rd leave (when he took care of his dad after the first heart attack), did them in. Tim and John love Savannah more than she ever loved either of them. They made ultimate sacrifices for her. Tim was her best friend, always giving her hope that John would come back alive and it would all work out. Tim even told John to make her happy when he is gone (also asking for Alan to be taken care of). John responded by saying goodbye to her and selling his dad's coin collection to save Savannah's husband. The experimental drugs work on Tim and he is back home with Savannah. She didn't wait for John during his service and she was willing to betray Tim as he was sick in bed. Even begging to still be a part of John's life by maintaining contact, knowing full well they can't actually be friends. Both the prologue and epilogue tell the story of true love. They are the same scene of John staring off in the distance at Savannah after the good deed. It's fascinating. Savannah, after all those years, even being married, still looked up at the full moon to remember her only weeks with John. That is saying everything about her. She only thought of herself, her own joy. John, on the contrary, finally learned to do the right thing and be honorable. The movie cheapens the story of sacrifice so much that it's not worth it. After reading the book, I realized how bad it really was. Prioritize reading Dear John instead. A Walk to Remember and The Notebook are far superior in film. Both stories remain truer to the original content and the sacrifice is still told through the screenplay. Here it's so missed that there is no food for thought. A little about death and illness, but not much mote than that.
This movie shows the clear difference between passion and love. He really loved her; but for her, it was only a moment. She just got frustrated because when he came back, he didn't want her (look how she teased him all the time even changing her clothes in front of him). I'm sure if she really stated she wanted him to stay when he asked her what to do, he'd have stayed.
When he went back he had the choice to reenlist for another term or to return home he chose to because he was doing it for his country I understand that but when your time is up go home be with the ones you love you only get true love once in your life so don't let it fade away
When I first watched this movie I hated her for this..when I watched it years later I understood. Not saying I would do this. Just saying for her character it makes sense. She came across wise but she was a very scared person. She had a lot of beauty in her, one thing was being kind to a fault. Her kindness and empathy and needing to help him with his autistic son, consumed her as she was filled with emptiness john being gone. She did the right thing because when he died she got custody of his kid who would have needed a lifetime of help. It also forced her to become aware of herself as a person. If she would have stayed with john the entire time I don’t know if their relationship would have lasted.
Excellent point. I do think them staying apart and going through personal battles helped their relationship. I haven’t watched the movie but it seems they will get together as a strong couple.
This part really grinded my gears because at first the way he wore that uniform it was correct. But at this scene when you look at the rank on his shoulder, it’s clearly upside down🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
She didn't need to marry Tim at all. John was amazing guy for her and I feel like if she really truly loved him she would have waited until he finished serving in the military.
After watching it again, I think Savannah ended their relationship because she felt abandoned and not needed by John. Thats why it was easy for her to choose to move on and marry Tim who was sick. And John didn't assure her of their future together. I think her biggest mistake was her underestimating their feelings with each other.
Because the minimum requirement of a relationship is presence. When people leave - even if it is not their choice to leave others behind - it is hard. I’ve been in the military for 23years. I’m divorced. Marriage is hard. The military is hard. Some relationships can only handle so many stressors- and that is life. It’s not anyone’s fault.
I was in the Navy and after talking to many friends I realized that a lot of couples that split due to the hardships of the military life never full realized that just the absence of the other’s presence is enough to start the rift. The moment they stopped growing together, they started growing apart.

Your father is a singer?
But did she leave him for some creepy old sick guy?
"You think it was tough out there?" Woman, he was literally at war, busy getting shot at and trying not to get blown up. And he had to live without her too. I'm a woman myself and I understand that sometimes you can't help how you feel. Feelings fade with time and distance. It's unfair but that's how it is. Instead, she makes it about her, blaming him for not understanding and shit. She gets no sympathy from me the moment she started gaslighting him
Preach ma'am. She didn't even say a single thing about his suffering. He goes through the same shit and on top of that a heartbreak without an explanation and she left him for someone else while despite his hardship he stayed loyal to her.
She had good intentions about helpping her friend with his child but why did she married him? it is inevitable to side with John, she was too selfish
How is it selfish to sacrifice your own happiness and marry a dying man you don’t love in order to take care of him in his final days and to be a mother to his autistic child who would be alone in the world once his father dies. 🤔
@@taraz6786 Thats just BS and you know it
@@jamesbond2789 Nope it’s literally what happened. 🤦🏼♀️
@@taraz6786 The selfish part is cheating and marrying Tim. She didn't have to do that, the main reason she did it was because she felt lonely and impatient. Those are selfish qualities.
@@harry-cj6wu Nope. She could have done countless other things to stave off being impatient and lonely. She was a rich, white & beautiful woman, she could have had her pick of anyone, it’s not like men weren’t vying for her attention, hell she could have just lived life free of any obligations & gone traveling or something. The point is, she had innumerable paths to walk down and yet chose to be tied down to a terminally ill patient who has no family and cannot afford round the clock care and an autistic child who undoubtedly requires a lot more attention and time, after his own mother abandoned him. The life she chose is difficult and draining and she could have had an easy life, so her actions actually take character and heart. She saw Tim deteriorating and decided to do the right thing because her conscience guided her to it, not all of us can say we would be that selfless.
I love this movie so much, john loves her but did the right thing moving away from savannah, because it's really hard to forget even if you forgive,it's keeps on coming back...😆still trying my best to ignore the past
She sounds like she made excuses for why she left him, yet again the breakup was foreshadowed. Great movie
Every word that came out of her mouth was absolute, pure garbage.
-Deflecting
-Blaming
-Self victimizing
-rationalizing her terrible behavior
-contradicting her own statements
-manipulation by crying
-going into hysterics over being calmly asked to provide a Non-BS answer
Pure and simple, she took absolutely ZERO accountability for her actions.
If anything, my mannz dodged a huge bullet when she left his life. What a train wreck of a girl.
Women cry a lot about how men dont validate their feelings. All the dude wanted was for her to validate his feelings and acknowledge she was the cause of his heartbreak so he could get closure. She couldnt even give him that much. Instead, she poured salt in the wound by blaming him and making herself out to be the victim.
This girl was trifling. How are you going to send your boyfriend off to war? Then, Mary the guy that he was jealous of you being with? She made it sound like she was forced to marry that dude.

The shoulder boards are backwards and it’s mind numbing!
Came here to say this. My brain melted just at the thumbnail.
He is legally aren’t allowed to wear them correctly. Flipping them makes it legal
She was not alone.. She was with Tim they were together, working on something.. Not him he was alone.. He was literally alone cuz she had already betrayed him
I really think my whole family set me up to lose the best thing that ever happened to me
With that attitude yes. You always have a choice for your own actions and destiny, own them and you’ll have control over your life
I don’t care what anyone says. She was an amazing person inside and out. She was never perfect and never tried to be.
This is very much like my ex when I did my four years with the marines. She cheats on me and plays the victim. But in my case, she puts out false word that I was the toxic one. Shit ain’t fair but that was 7 years ago. I’ve never put any effort to clear my name. I just deleted my Facebook and moved on. Out of my whole high school graduation class of 2011, I hang out with only one friend on a weekly basis like he’s my brother because he took the initiative to hear my side of the story. No one else.
Hey man sorry to hear that, your friend is a keeper. Hope youre doing well

@@DerekMcAdam2023 you shouldn't have to read a book to know. The movie should be able to provide all the context needed and if it doesnt that's a failure on the movies part.
@@the_spotted_quacker The movie is total crap compared to the Book. doesn't even have the same ending xD
@@the_spotted_quacker i think the book is brutal about love and not a happy ending, and the director wanted a happy ending thats why she marry Tim for pitty and not for love.
Yea...I don't feel sorry for you, you had no choice but to have an affair? My husband was deployed both when we were dating and after we got married -it's really hard but if you love someone you just have to choose to turn a blind eye to other men/women.
Err she didn’t have an affair, you clearly haven’t watched the movie
We will never know the truth, but I hope what u say is real
she didn’t have an affair. she married the guy legally to have custody of the son and to take care of him but the marriage was in name only not physical/romantic
Actually she cheated on him ...
Ending was shit as they ended up together Which her character doesn't deserve.
Movie teaches us true love doesn't exist in long distance relationship.
yeah.. her friend was sick, so what... they had to get married so she could help (?)... some bullshit right there.
Lol same with The Notebook… she cheats on her man because her “the one” came back. These stories are a poor excuse.
So many of Nicholas Sparks's novels glorify infidelity....it was seen in Notebook, Dear John, The choice...it's all brushed aside for romantic escapism and melodrama. The person is never held accountable for their actions. His books are actually misery porn and nothing else.
@@something.something189 Choice was worst movie i have ever watch
Has anyone thought about rewriting this movie if Savannah actually had waited for John?
This scene destroys me everytime 💔😭
Me too seeing his rank upside down really really upsets me
I remember back in high school, was trying to join the military and my buddy was talking about joining up too. He tells the girl he was with about wanting to join but she says I may not stay loyal. Thinking back, I don’t think he was serious about it, the girls we were going after just weren’t shit, and honestly fuck those years. Gives me a good laugh though thinking about that stuff
Lmao well hey at least she was honest about it. Better that way than not telling him and cheating anyway.
Amanda Seyfried's acting is great in this scene though.
Love this movie!!!💖
My favorite me2 ❤
Very good story. Inspiring. May Gid bless your love?
This is one of my favorite Nicholas Sparks because I really love John. Savannah I only liked because of how much John loved her. As a person, I am annoyed that she gave up to fast
She couldn't just help the guy and not marry him while her boyfriend was trying to live another day while at war. Oh yeah, that was really hard for her!
I don't think she has ever been more beautiful than in this movie. Tatum did a good job too. She is so naturally beautiful reminds me of my ex wife.
I cried on this movie
she cares and empathetic
love is love
I read this book in high school and I read the last third of it in class one day not realizing it was going to make me break down like a little baby. I cried so hard, so embarrassing but the book was so sad.
Ya I know that feeling
Why did you not call me about my cars 🚗 extended warranty 🤣🤣🤣🤣
This movie shows the clear difference between passion and love. He really loved her; but for her, it was only a moment. She just got frustrated because when he came back, he didn't want her (look how she teased him all the time even changing her clothes in front of him). I'm sure if she really stated she wanted him to stay when he asked her what to do, he'd have stayed.
When he went back he had the choice to reenlist for another term or to return home he chose to because he was doing it for his country I understand that but when your time is up go home be with the ones you love you only get true love once in your life so don't let it fade away
She broke him in pieces 💔
Now I wanna watch this movie again
She: “I had no choice”
Audience: (……!?)
i love this movie soo much. just likenthe vow
LOL his rank is UPSIDE DOWN, it's so horrible that it cannot be unseen... YIKES!
I’d regret it forever ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I wish I could just call him right now to hear his voice. Better yet I wish he’d just call me. We could just be ourselves and everything would be ok
I wud never walk that path again. What’s done is done
I haven't watched the movie again but reading your realization made me understood their situation.
Excellent point. I do think them staying apart and going through personal battles helped their relationship. I haven’t watched the movie but it seems they will get together as a strong couple.
His rank is on BACKWARDS at the beginning, then corrected at the end LOL
I've read the book, it was truly devasting with that awful letter and John's dad dying.
Whoever was in charge of the uniform didn’t do a good job because the shoulder rank is upside down. LOL

the stripes on his shoulders are upside down.
Lol, why don't I have a guy who's worried if I called or not😂
“You thought it was tough out there”… dude literally got shot twice 😂

This part really grinded my gears because at first the way he wore that uniform it was correct. But at this scene when you look at the rank on his shoulder, it’s clearly upside down🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
It’s funny because at 2:31 it’s wrong and then the camera angle changes and it’s back to normal
Who cares lmao
I once had a love like this. But it was a betrayed love and I walk away.
good for you
This movie will forever infuriate me. As a vet, I saw this happen to too many people.
❤❤good
She came a long way from mean girls
For real.
She had a choice
She didn't need to marry Tim at all. John was amazing guy for her and I feel like if she really truly loved him she would have waited until he finished serving in the military.
Wait. Who is the girl and guy in the relatio ship
Awe 2:09 he understands and gives her a hug
Thats the hallmark of a real man. Someone who can muster the strength to be gentle and selfless, even in the face of unspeakable pain.
Anyone else notice his rank is upside down in the first half of the video 😂
Her "I had no choice"
Him "I know"
