It's both though! Their possed conjuring up spirits. Cutting oneself is NOT OF GOD! Harming the body he gave us to take care of is NOT of God. It's ironic their spiritual practices has white men on top of their costumes as if their channeling theor energy the slave trade brought. They speak of the slave trade, BUT I have you know The chiefs GAVE the people to them, to protect their families from being taken. Hence why the taking of people made into slaves was done at night time within the villages!

I found it very disrespectful when he said that most likely the children had never seen another photographer other than him in their lives. He seems to be lacking depth and interest for the spiritual meanings of those practices. He assumes that the Africans and the Native Americans are exotic people unlike people of European descent. The traditional European cultures also have political and spiritual leaders. He seems so ignorant because we are all humans regardless our skin colour or belief systems. I remember being in Peru where I came met an old lady in the fields outside of Pune near Lake Titicaca. She reminded so much of my Polish aunt who had died at the age of 101. I didn`t perceive this lady as someone different from me but as someone from my own family. His attitude towards 'the natives' gets on my nerves. He will probably publish those photos and films and display them in some sort of art gallery or write some superficial article about the cultures he virtually has no interest other than colourful images and mysterious practices.

If he go to Romenia where almost all EU countries vampire academy had settled, no one is allowed inside the castles or taking any pictures. Did Africans asked themselves why?. Not all. The photographer said seen the community leaders and spiritual leader together resembles the red Indians or the Maya in South America, and the guide answered him a small world. The fact is they're one people, those in South America are the lost tribes during the exodus going to the promised land after crossed the red sea. Even though they are far apart from each other yet their culture remains the same. The mistakes the Africans are still doing is that all EU, foreign investors must take oaths by those spiritual priest before allowed them to operate in the continent, everyone will see how they doing and putting things in place instead of reaping or just stealing from Africa continent. It's time for Africa continent to respect their culture and protect it deeply!🤞🏾

I am 7% Benin and Togo. I love their culture but I'm American so I can't get jiggy with everything other than the dancing. I loved every second of that, I can't dance to save my life but I love to dance. I'd dance with them from sunrise to sundown. What a Beautiful and scary/shocking tribe.

Being an initiate myself, it annoys me when I see foreigners go to our homelands and disrespect us. Our people don't see it as disrespect as they're highly welcoming. We don't go to Europe and Americas poke-nosing into their religious & political affairs. I don't hate them, but I hate what they do.

Why do we always accept Mzungus with open arms and tell them of our sacred traditions, that was how they enslaved us . Do you think a Black man could venture into such place if this was Mzungus or any other race of people. We do not learn

Why did they disclose our spiritual powers to the Aryans who came to Africa with only the Bible to take all our resources?

Egungun in Yoruba means a masquerade that's like an intermediary between the ancestor and the living, in other part of west Africa especially The Nupe it's called Igunnu, I'm Yoruba and I share some cultures with people in Benin and Togo

Africans should tell their own stories and avoid those who come in to exploit them, having no full knowledge and understanding of their traditional culture. Some of the expressions, verbal and photographic, being used here shows an intent to market videos and hard copies.
