Yes!! Beautiful precision and the small work it takes to do fine curves. Very beautiful, and I see the preparation is as careful as the actual work. A needlewoman after my own finicky old heart.

Hi Rosemarie, and thank you! Yes, for this video I was resting the hoop on the edge of my table. But this was from a while back, and now I use a hoop stand. It's much easier! It eases the strain on my hands/neck/shoulders, and allows me to use both hands more easily for stitches like this.
I’m curious how you can hold the needle in your right hand, and have your left fingers available to stretch the thread apart. What are you holding your hoop with? It moves easily so can’t be on a stand. Thx.
That's an excellent question! Back when I made this video a couple (several?) years ago I didn't use a hoop stand. (I use one now, and it's much easier for everything.) But when I was filming this I am resting the top edge (in other words, regardless of how the design is rotated, the edge of my hoop that is furthest away from me) is resting on the edge of my worktable. The edge of the hoop that is nearest to me is propped on my lap. It's a bit unwieldy that way, but it generally worked, allowing me to rotate my hoop frequently so I'm stitch at the angle that is easiest for me. But as I said, using a hoop stand is much easier for all of this.
@@LolliandGrace thank you, that makes sense. I sit in my armchair at night watching tv as I stitch, so don’t have a table to lean on. But I like the sound of your method, I might need to start daytime stitching!

Hi Susan - for chain stitch, you do go back down into the same hole in which you came up. But it doesn't undo your stitch because you come up inside the loop you make and stitch it down at the top of the loop. (If you didn't stitch down the top of the loop, then yes, your stitch would just disappear. Hopefully that makes sense!
Hi Abby! For this hoop I laid one edge of it on my worktable and then propped the other side against my body. The reason I did this was so I could easily turn the hoop as I am stitching around the letters, but it also let me use both hands to hold the thread.

This is a 100% cotton fabric (like a high-quality quilting cotton).
Every stitcher says pull up then go right back down as if in the hole you first camevup..doesn't that undo your stitch

Do you have your hooped propped on a table or something? If not, how are you holding it with both hands free at times?
