Amen to that! And, next time you chat with your cousin--- let him know a HUGE fan of his from Indiana, thinks this song is one of THE VERY BEST LOVE SONGS in the 90s, if not, maybe forever. Idk if he wrote? So whoever it was, came up with some very thoughtful AND very thought-provoking lyrics, then add Mark's deep, sexy voice, just poured in all his emotion, which he did quite well,, and you can't help but pick up thru his voice.... otherwise, song would've not climbed the charts as it did, and it wouldn't have the staying power it does if for not being such the amazing song it was, it still is, performed by the best, amazing singer it obviously meant to be sang by. I've loved this song since it was released, but never knew how much it would come to mean in my own life & my own marriage......... While my husband & I did not follow Mark's instructions, we did get divorced. And our only biological child was very upset, even at 15yrs old. Had no idea it would hurt him so deeply. But at least he got to see his parents come back together, fall back in love and at our ceremony, he was my husband's best man. He couldn't have been happier. Im SO thankful for all of it because no one could see the tragedy coming our way. 3yrs after we were remarried, our son passed away. I cannot tell you, if you've never lost a child, you can never understand. But I pray no one reading this EVER goes thru what we did. He was missing for 112 days, approx 4 n half months then found deceased. We were politely by funeral home, as polite as you can say to two grief stricken parents, "his remains are unviewable". Those were NOT REMAINS, THAT WAS MY CHILD. I wanted desperately to kiss him goodbye--- instead we had to say our goodbyes thru a body bag he was in, then the "cremation"" box. It mightve been fact but there was nothing polite about it. Guess they did the best could. No one, at all, would let us see him, as we overhead some funeral directors themselves that worked on his body were even traumatized. So I suppose we made the right decision by not demanding and left our memory of him as he was-- gorgeous blue eyes, strawberry blonde hair, and the brightest snile. Its been 8yrs this Aug, and we still have days Its pure hell and feels like your heart is being ripped out. It NEVER goes away.. whoever quoted "Time Heals All Wounds" I can guarantee has never lost a child. But I'm glad He did ... we would've ever gotten thru his loss without each other. Leaning on God, leaning on each other, and watching the biggest blessing of all, our 8month old grandson. He is the highlight & joy in our lives. He's 8yrs old now and is his Daddys twin! It's heartbreaking he didnt get the chance to know what a wonderful young man he was.... we can only share memories, show him pictures and constantly remind him how very much his daddy lovecd & adored. So even still, we are blessed. If we didn't have this guy to help hear our hearts, I'm not sure what would've happenedto us.. Anyway, Good Grief SORRY for such a long comment. Did not mean to get THIS freaking carrued away! But this love song STILL reminds me of us- because we'll NEVER use that word ever ever again. If anyone got all the way thru this, God Bless You! Bc I know it's not an interesting story at all. Sometimes a song will just take me back to simpler days and I remember my boys being young, FULL of energy, and always happy. Those were the days God Bless Y'all! Much Love & Blessings from Your Indiana fans ❤🤍💙💯

One of the best lines in a country music song. I remember hearing this song when I was a kid and that line has always stuck with me. It wasn't until my nieces were born, and my fiancé came into my life that I understood just how true those words are. I make sure to let them know everyday just how much I love them.
They play this on prime country sirus xm and they talk about people saying this sounds like pop, and I was thinking to myself they should be glad that they haven't heard today's country if they think this is pop
This song is so rare in it's meaning and impact. A love song, but not a love song, a breakup song but not a breakup song. A cautionary tale about how fragile relationships can be if we don't fight to protect them. A truly remarkable song. Hug the ones you love. It can all end in an instant, in far to many ways, for far too many reasons.
Hell no they don't. I just laugh at kids these days listening to Luke Bryan and all this new shit. Its a crying shame, thank god I got to grow up in the 80's and 90's
I grew up in the late 90s , early 00s. I really hate how country music is going to "pop" style. It's all about the beat of the music and not the voice.
***** I grew up on 80s and 90s country. But I was also exposed to country from the 60s and 70s. I listen to Alan Jackson and Mark Chesnutt as much as I listen to George Jones and Waylon Jennings. Country has constantly evolved, but it always had a good story to tell. Happy or sad, it was music for all occasions. Now it's all about girls in short shorts, tailgates, and dirt roads. That had been the stereotype of country music for years, even though it was much more than that. However, it's become so cliched today that it's practically a parody of itself. And then there's Taylor Swift, who only sang about haters and ex-boyfriends before going pop and singing about the same things. Ugh. So yeah, I totally get why so many people think country sucks today. It started going downhill as the 90s came to a close, and it continues to get progressively worse.
+Jessica Harvell Today's country sounds like rock. If I wanted to listen to rock I would. Love the old stuff. You could actually hear the lyrics to the songs. Now days you can't hear the words for the loud music.
This song is absolutely haunting. Takes me back years at lightning speed in the first few chords. One of the best country songs of the 90s right before country music became terminally ill.
Hey, James. I really liked reading your comment toward Mark. I had just heard Blame It On Texas while shopping in Tractor Supply telling myself how familiar that voice is when it dawned on me, "OMGosh, that's my cousin". I have always admired his voice since childhood before he started a career in music. I miss hearing Mark sing.
This is probably the greatest country song ever. Yes, you have George, Garth, Vince and a host of others, but nothing compares to the voice in Mark's song. Almost Goodbye Is the most heart felt song that I have ever heard.
This was my generation of country music.............this music was so soft and entertaining that it made me sleep easier at nights nowadays, today's country music doesn't even come close to what it was 20+ yrs ago!! I loved this music video along with Brother Jukebox
I miss my late husband. 😓R.I.P. Alvaro. He loved this song. One day he made me mad and this song happened to come on as he sung it to me. My heart melt and I broke into tears. Appreciate your loved ones because you never know....😓😓😓
Can't I believe I never heard this song before. But it INSTANTLY just became one of my favorite songs. So beautiful. The lyrics are perfect.his voice phenomenal.
Mark was and is true and pure country to the core! Just pure and simple!! Too bad guy's like this aren't played on the radio and celebrated at all the award show's. The country they call country today ain't country, period!!!
This was the first Mark Chesnutt song I ever heard and I've been hooked on his music ever since. The most beautiful voice I've heard. Great voice, fantastic singer. Wish he would tour Australia. Thanks for sharing. Long live Mark and his music.
Great lyrics about not letting your anger and the words you want to say ruin the best thing you have. “Sometimes the most important words are the ones that we leave unspoken”
I still have all his albums and my kids now have and memorized them all. I would love to see him tour again. I would be front row standing right in the middle. It is nice to hear that voice still. Thanks Mark!!!!!
Had a a dream about this song and video. I remember seeing these same Texas skies, so i had to come on here and watch and hear it. One of my old time favs!
You're 100% correct! Saw Mark last night, and it almost brought back 1994! Man can still sing, and his band are some of the nicest guys I've ever met! And his steel guitar player has been with him over 30 years!
This song has special meaning to me. It came out at the time my wife and I went through it. 30 years later we are still going strong with 4 children and 5 grands. Beautiful life.
Mark Chestnutt is right up with George Strait in My Book, this song hits Home for Me in so many ways and gives Me chills every time I hear it, He puts His heart and soul into His music, that's just one of the many reasons it's so damn awesome, We Love Your Music Mark!! Keep it up!!
What an amazing song. I was a kid when this came out. I grew up on Country but a I got older I expanded my horizons because its always a plus to be open minded. So I love Rock, Metal, Alternative, Blues, Jazz, Rap etc. If it sounds good I''ll give it a chance. But something I have noticed with music. It seems to me that the music of the 80's and 90's was the best time. And the music of today is garbage. And its with most popular genres. Rap, Rock, and especially Country. Country just does not have the same heart and soul that it used to. Its gotten too modernized. Even though I love all kinds of music Country is my first love. And I remembering singing this in a talent show in 7th grade. Beautiful piece of music.
Mark Chesnutt has got the greatest country singing voice all time & if you want to hear his best song look up his song old country. All of his music is good but old country has got to be one of the greatest country songs of all time.
Mark sings a very profound statement, and truer words were never spoken, in this beautiful song.. "sometimes the most important words are the ones that we leave unspoken". In 54 years, I can vouch that this is exactly right.
Favorite Mark Chesnutt song--hands down! (Even in spite of being dumped by the guy I thought was the "love of my life" not long after it was released! That really sucked.) Love the subtle things in the arrangement (like the heartbeat and "mockingbird" that sounds more like a whip-poor-will). Awesome song in every way. Plus, as an avid equestrienne, I LOVE that they got someone who actually knew how to ride a horse for the video! Bonus!!
Ain’t he just beautiful!!... There, will never be another country artist, like Mark Chestnut... His voice is one of the best and totally one of a kind!.. Jeez, this guy needs so much more recognition, for the singer/writer he is!
Hello Michele 👋 Simple music can make you sing, a simple hug can make you feel better, simple things can make you happy, I hope my simple hello will make you smile.
Love all of Mark's music but this song meant alot in the 90's was going threw alot when this song came out. My 1st cassette of his music as of 2023 still listen to his music
Mark has to be one of the Best country singers I've ever heard sing. why isn't he still out there with the big guys?the man can put a lot of others to shame.......
70's had some great music but a lot of the songs get tossed around and have been around since the 50's. I'd would almost prefer they're hanging me tonight by Marty Robbins or Eddie Rabbits someone could lose a heart tonight, then 80's and 90's country but I was born in 80 so thats all old and the really old is new.. but in the end its all of a matter of opinion and it dont matter when the song comes out there is good music no matter where you look and also music that is no good.
Why don’t more country singers emulate this icon? Please bring real country back to it’s roots. ❤️
Well this would not be country roots. That would be jimmy rogers, and hank sr. When this era of country was out, old timers complained that it wasn’t country enough. And cycle will continue as long as music is made. Just listen to Hank jr “New Country “

Country just does not have the same heart and soul that it used to. Its gotten too modernized. Even though I love all kinds of music Country is my first love. And I remembering singing this in a talent show in 7th grade. Beautiful piece of music.
Always loved Marks songs...so heartfelt! Great country singer!!
Hello ✋ Donna
Mark Chesnutt has got the greatest country singing voice all time & if you want to hear his best song look up his song old country. All of his music is good but old country has got to be one of the greatest country songs of all time.
My truck driver handle is "Old Country". One of my favorite songs of all time.
Still one of my most favorite songs more than 20 years later.
This is country gold. I'm a huge metal fan but this music stirs my very soul
Hello ✋ matt
Mine too and I’m a fan of most genres I can’t stay in one for too long.
Mark sings a very profound statement, and truer words were never spoken, in this beautiful song.. "sometimes the most important words are the ones that we leave unspoken". In 54 years, I can vouch that this is exactly right.
Real country music right here. One of the best songs ever!!
Bonus!!
Need more music like this the older music so awesome
Hello Teresa
How are you doing?
How are you doing today
This song will really confuse the heart and bring back back memories the heart should forget.
Ain’t he just beautiful!!... There, will never be another country artist, like Mark Chestnut... His voice is one of the best and totally one of a kind!.. Jeez, this guy needs so much more recognition, for the singer/writer he is!
Thanks for your undying love and support dear. Where are you from?
This is my favorite. He has an awesome voice.
Hello Michele 👋 Simple music can make you sing, a simple hug can make you feel better, simple things can make you happy, I hope my simple hello will make you smile.
Love all of Mark's music but this song meant alot in the 90's was going threw alot when this song came out. My 1st cassette of his music as of 2023 still listen to his music
late 80's and 90's you could like almost every song today we're lucky to like a couple.
90's classic country meets 80's power ballad - love it!
This is my favorite song by Mark. And l think all of his music is great!
Many a cold beer lost its life to this song. 90s.

Wow love country that's before me I was born in 2-23-1999 wish country was more like this now a days.
Really do love this man's music.❤😂❤😂
This guy is a great Country Singer!
country music was the best in the 80s and 90s
so True
Very correct.
to prove this one has to hear Dan Seals country version of ' I'd Really Love To See You Tonight'
Chucky
70's had some great music but a lot of the songs get tossed around and have been around since the 50's. I'd would almost prefer they're hanging me tonight by Marty Robbins or Eddie Rabbits someone could lose a heart tonight, then 80's and 90's country but I was born in 80 so thats all old and the really old is new.. but in the end its all of a matter of opinion and it dont matter when the song comes out there is good music no matter where you look and also music that is no good.
I miss country music like this
Searra Kay I miss my three x wives!
With the country rap we have today. Why is this song never played on the radio? Now this is country.
What a great voice, when Country music needed it in the early 90's!
Love this song!

Listening in December 2019 .. still a top favorite of mine!
