Scott Hardy: Gladys is my Nana. In many ways she is everyone’s grandmother, granny, or bubbie. She is a loving spirit who says what she feels and manages to never be mean-spirited about it. It’s great that some people speculate that we may be the same person. Ellen DeGeneres asked her directly that some fans want to know if she is real and Gladys answered, “I believe that love and laughter are real.”
Gladys reminds me of my Aunt Kat. She was from Austin too. Kat died when she was 90, smoked tobacco rolled in corn husks, was a college graduate, and was the funniest damned lady right up until the end. I remember our last conversation. I asked, "How do you feel today?" She said, "Well, honeybunny, I feel great, but these miserable doctors still tell me I'm dying. I'm gonna watch Matlock, take another pain pill for my back and piss in a pot. We'll see how much these nurses like that." I miss her. RIP Aunt Katherine.
I believe its real. I am a nurse and I've had some very quick witted patients that are older. And some of the stuff she's saying is SO what they'd say.. The way she says it. And some of her stuff isnt THAT funny, so.. wouldnt they come up with something funnier? haha Love Gladys!!
Of course, there are funny old people in this world. Scott modeled his character after his grandmother (the real Gladys) and many other older Texas women he knew. That's what comedians, impressionists, & voice talent do...listen to the nuances of the character they are trying to recreate & practice until they get it right. Rich Little, Jonathan Winters, anyone?
What are you talking about?...Ellen is the one calling and not the other way around. The first call was in response to a letter from Gladys...it's on youtube under the name: Ellen's Favorite Moments: Meeting Gladys
she is real... people just cant believe someone like that actually exists and they cant believe an actor is never acting. SO BELIEVE AGAIN ,CHILD! GLADYS IS REAL!!!!
Gladys is actually a male, and a sharp comedian at that. He has a wicked sense of humor, and a good observation of what it’s like to be a little old lady. These were all riotously funny calls.
Gladys is (or was) Scott's grandmother. She has never been the one making the phone calls. Read what he says carefully. Scott does not want to lie, so he does not say Gladys is the one making the calls (she isn't). He's making the "Santa Claus" argument, saying she is "a spirit, everyone's grandmom, yada yada". So everything he's saying there is true, without ever saying Gladys is actually calling Ellen or that he isn't the one doing it. Well played by Scott, in my opinion. Very smart.
becca smith That obit is for Gladys B. Hardy from Elgin Tx , who died in 2006 (it says so on the Legacy site.) Ellen's Gladys made her first phone call in 2007. Maybe she called from the grave?
@ gg h. . . . . I totally agree with you !! In Ellen's first-ever conversation, however, (where Gladys called in, asking Ellen to move the "spiky" plant behind Ellen's head that made her look like Alfalfa, lmao), Ellen asked Gladys if she (Gladys) would like to come on the show, and Gladys said she likes to "stay local" & does not like to travel. I never understood why Ellen just never went to Texas to see Gladys (since Gladys won't travel)
@zucchini2007 she doesnt want that the second time ellen called her to ask if she wanted to come on the show she said she wanted to stay local. And ellen respected that
My cousin lives here & goes to the comedy club where Scott Hardy has performed. He sent me a link to a report on Weekend America. They figure out that Gladys is actually Scott. You can search for "Weekend America, March 10 2007" & see the link to the report. I listened to the audio, then did some more searches (Gladys Hardy, Scott, fake) & found even more info. Really, I trust my cousin more than even those. Scott & Jennie also have a my space, if you want to bother looking. BTW, Jennie is hot!
@dcr474 Yes, I guess you are right.... =\ I'm glad I believed it was real for some time... lol.... Maybe they arrange it, but there's no screenplay and Gladys (or Scott) improvises.... :D
Yeah, pretty funny. But Gladys isn't who you think she is. Some people here in Austin know that it's a guy, a comedian from this area. Why do you think there hasn't even been a picture of her in the 2 years she's been talking to Ellen? Still, pretty funny. By the way, she says here that "Jennie" is her grand-daughter with asthma, but Jennie is actually the name of the guy's wife.
I would suppose The people on Ellen show know but is ellen aware of what Gladys is going to talk about? I think she isn't because when she first called her and this '' l love Jesus but I drink a little'' comment came she burst out laughing so maybe this isn't ALL planned then.
Here Gladys refers to Jeanie as her Granddaughter, but in the very first interview she is referred to as "cousin Jeanie". I hope Gladys was real; a part of me thinks she was created by the producers. lol
Of course she wants to "stay local". The man doing her voice can't appear as Gladys, of course. Do you think this would have gone on since 2007 w/o Ellen even getting a photo or even Skyping, even if just for Ellen to see? Does "Gladys" sound like an anti-social person or hermit? Of course she doesn't. Her comic CDs have her calling airlines for tickets (fake calls, of course but if they were real, that means she does air travel). It's a very funny act, meant to amuse us. Mission accomplished.
SHUT UPABOUT IT BEING FAKE! - It's stil funny so why are you ruining it for other people? Just shut up for god sake, it doesn't matter if it's fake it sounds real and it's a good part to the show! Gladys is hilarious, keep on keepin' on!
@blt80blt80 yea yea yea... u know so much and get off on "setting folks straight" if it makes you feel smart, even if that means killing all the fun of a brilliantly, carefully-crafted character. FYI to ya ...Jennie is NOT "the name of the guy's wife"...

Obama needs to do something about that honey, because paying 5 dollars for a large Dr. Pepper is just plumb crazy 😂😂😂😂😂 I died

i like Gladys's voice, it sounds so graceful
I believe its real. I am a nurse and I've had some very quick witted patients that are older. And some of the stuff she's saying is SO what they'd say.. The way she says it. And some of her stuff isnt THAT funny, so.. wouldnt they come up with something funnier? haha Love Gladys!!

NOTHING like elderly ladies!! They’re the BEST thing ever !
What are you talking about?...Ellen is the one calling and not the other way around. The first call was in response to a letter from Gladys...it's on youtube under the name: Ellen's Favorite Moments: Meeting Gladys
Some people always got to ruin it for people, just laugh at it and get over yourself.
Who cares if she’s real? She is pure positivity.
she is real... people just cant believe someone like that actually exists and they cant believe an actor is never acting. SO BELIEVE AGAIN ,CHILD! GLADYS IS REAL!!!!
u didnt get a brain at birth did u? No wonder American tv does so well with spectators like u available......i dont feel sorry for u....
Gladys is actually a male, and a sharp comedian at that. He has a wicked sense of humor, and a good observation of what it’s like to be a little old lady. These were all riotously funny calls.
And a birdie told you?
I want to see what Gladys looks like! They should get her photo!

Gladys Litterally has a whole CD/Pod cast she is Real.
It doesn't matter if she is real or not. It's funny
She couldn’t have created a character like that. I started watching Ellen because I saw/heard the first Gladys show. I didn’t know what I was missing…
well i heard someone say gladys was scott's grandmother.. & that gladys remains anonymous cause it takes the pressure off her..
lmfao i loveeee this woman! GLADYS COME BACK
Heheheheh, heheheheh! My husband and myself have no cell phones! And the land line only rings when we are indisposed or oot the back!
She's real. She died not to long ago and I found her obituary. A lot of people mention in the guestbook about her on Ellen.
becca smith That obit is for Gladys B. Hardy from Elgin Tx , who died in 2006 (it says so on the Legacy site.) Ellen's Gladys made her first phone call in 2007. Maybe she called from the grave?
gladys is real. people just need to shut up about it.

@zucchini2007 she doesnt want that the second time ellen called her to ask if she wanted to come on the show she said she wanted to stay local. And ellen respected that

Herbert is the name.
Ellen is a Angel she really is.
I would suppose The people on Ellen show know but is ellen aware of what Gladys is going to talk about?
I think she isn't because when she first called her and this '' l love Jesus but I drink a little'' comment came she burst out laughing so maybe this isn't ALL planned then.
Ah, ok. Thanks for letting me know :)
If Gladys wasn't real, then I think they would have nipped it in the bud when the rumors surrounding her started.
@cwants
Now that I think about it, she does kinda sound like Herbert The Pervert..
Here Gladys refers to Jeanie as her Granddaughter, but in the very first interview she is referred to as "cousin Jeanie". I hope Gladys was real; a part of me thinks she was created by the producers. lol
It is 2018. Is Gladys still with us?
Gladys was his grandmother. He based the character off of her.

People wake up!! Gladys is not real. She's an actress being fed all these corn pone lines. Everything on that tube, ain't real
I know that

Absolutely. Unfortunately people who watch Ellen have incredibly low IQs so will never realise.
Gladys was real, sadly she passed away a couple of year's ago
you drank the kool aid too huh?
You guys just ruined it for me! I thought this was a real old lady who was 88. :( Aw
@blt80blt80 yea yea yea... u know so much and get off on "setting folks straight" if it makes you feel smart, even if that means killing all the fun of a brilliantly, carefully-crafted character. FYI to ya ...Jennie is NOT "the name of the guy's wife"...
