- Husk or Husker has one of the most unique positions amongst the core Hazbin Hotel cast of characters. Making even his shorter moments on screen stick out in a big way. Honestly, seeing what Alastor did to the other Overlords, Husk got off lucky, but also explains why he was so afraid of him when threatened because he saw what Alastor did to the other overlords and KNOWS he wasn't bluffing. 💀

Alastor died several decades before Husk did and we know Alastor’s rampage against the overlords happened really quickly after his manifestation in Hell

Funny enough, Husk's actually good with kids; explains why he tolerated Niffty nearly tearing off his eyebrows.
The simplification of Husk and other characters designs was largely due to the fact that it made animation easier. Complex designs can be, fittingly enough, absolute hell to animate, something that can even be attested to regarding Bee from Helluva Boss
Keith David is the kind of actor you can literally cast as anyone regardless of if he fits the character and it's amazing anyway

I think the change in his wings is to connect him more to gambling in general as opposed to just cards. I was always reminded of a roulette wheel when looking at his wings

It's also for the sanity of the animators. Circles are WAY easier to animate than several different card suits

Husk is the perfect bartender to vent to after a crappy day. He'll be there with a drink (but know when to cut you off), a listening ear, and brutally honest advice if necessary. We all need someone like Husk in our lives.
His wings evoke a roulette table tbh. just fits an overall gambling look.
If I have to guess, the reason for the symbols on Husk's wings changing is for animation reasons. Sometimes you don't want too many small details cause you would have to keep track and make sure everything is consistent. One example is Cell in both the Dragon Ball anime and manga, his spots was a bitch for both the artists and animators.
Although I can't pinpoint exactly when and where Vivziepop said this (I know it was one of her livestreams) but I distinctly remember her saying that now that the pilot has been completed, she was going to revise some of the character's designs for the purpose of simplifying them for future animation projects. In particular, she mentioned that she was scrapping the card symbols on Husk's wings because they drove way too many animators crazy trying to keep them the same size, position and shape in every shot!
However, she already had a new idea in mind that would be easier to draw and would still keep the casino aesthetic and had settled on the dots found on a roulette table!
What I love about Husks progress is something that isnt even spelled out to us. So we all know he's being forced to work at the Hotel and wouldve left if he had the chance. But at the end of ep 8, he stays around to rebuild the Hotel and continue working there despite thinking Alastor was dead. He thought he finally got his soul baxk and decided to stay with rhe gang, that is so cute
I noticed while watching the video during the clip of the season's final song husk had a smile on his face during Alastor's absence, then immediately turning sour at Alastor's sudden reappearance and reluctance to partake in the group hug. Hope his soul can be free someday
Also interesting is that even with Alastor's supposed death, Husk continued to rebuild the hotel and was willing to stay by his own say.
I don’t know about anyone else but I really like seeing the animation with no audio, it makes me more observant during every scene and I can better appreciate all the hard work the animators put into this show
Husk cares about everyone more than he’s willing to admit. He uses a gruff attitude to hide how he really feels. He even cares about Alastor cause if anyone knows how damaged he is, it’s Husk. Alastor definitely trusts Husk enough that he knows about the deal he made. Even though he snapped at him in episode 5 Alastor probably values his honesty and straightforward attitude. It’s why he keeps him around instead of tearing his soul apart like he did to so many others.

i think it's an important detail that Alastor didn't treat Husk like that in front of Charlie. He knows Charlie would end the whole thing then and there. As powerful as Alastor is he probably doesn't hold a candle to her. Can't wait to see Charlie get on to Alastor for abusing Husk

Husk is a favorite of mine as well. He gets it.
I can definitely see how horrible Husk's servitude to Alastor is. After Husk mentioned that he knows that Alastor contracted his own soul to someone else, Alastor became furious and threatens to tear Husk's soul apart and broadcast his screams for all to hear if he ever says that again. By the end of the encounter, the poor cat is a shivering, terrified wreck and Alastor couldn't care less.

it was confirmed by Viv that husker and angel dust will get together but it is a slow burn and she wants to take the time to develop them, i did agree a lot more at the start that angel and husk would have a very sweet friendship as both of them are in the same situation ( having their soul owned by awful people). its now just up too the future seasons and episodes to tell the story between them correctly as some shows either do slow burn very wrong or hit it on the nail.
There is a theory that the flaming head overlord is in charge of Hell’s casinos, so I like to headcanon that he was owned by Husk or at least worked under him, and when Husk made a deal with Alastor he was able to take over.
I also think Angel is going to fall for Husk way sooner than Husk will fall for him, shenanigans will ensue.
I think maybe Husks death was falling, likely off a building or something.
Lots of animals the sinners are, are referential. Sir P was an inventor and likely a metaphorical snake in life. Alastor is a deer, due to being shot in the head, as deer often are. I’m hoping Husk will stay at the Hotel and continue to work there. I see him eventually warming up to the place and the main cast (especially Angel, Charlie, and Vaggie) and deciding he actually does like it there enough to stay
I feel sad for Husk, he used to be an Overlord but thanks to his gambling addiction, Alastor owns his soul and he'll even threaten Husk to tear off his soul and broadcast his screams while Husk is on a leash.😨😰

I wonder if husk is the only og overlord that survived cause he was the strongest or the weakest overlord, cause clearly alastor worked his way to power so maybe he didnt want to fight husk back then so he resorted to using his gambling addiction or if he just didnt bother cause husk was the weakest.
i havent seen anything concrete about a full cause of death, but the main headcanon ive seen is that husk was in vietnam, and developed severe acoholism as a way to cope with pstd after he served. a lot of peoole think that the alcoholism killed him
Honestly, my first thought, seeing husk throw the cards as a weapon was that scene from yugioh with Seto Kaiba where he stops a gun with a trading card
2:28 they changed this design for animation purposes, his design is extremely complex even with the changes, and even more before so. The animators have to redraw husk hundreds if not thousands of times for the series. There is a good reason why characters are almost always simplistic in designs when it comes to animation, the hazbin hotel characters are very complex when it comes to animation.
I hope Husk and Angel stay bros. They have been my favorites along with Alaster (its the old timey radio voice tbh)
I actually did a fanfic of sorts using a chat bot to keep things as consistent as possible, where a character that is an alligory of who I am as a person, but with no restraint ends up in Hell mostly living life on his own, but is fiercely protective of children from his own upbringing or nore of a lack thereof, and when he gets to Hell, he looks like a silver grey timberwolf (being a "lone wolf of sorts in life) and sees an ad about the Hazben Hotel when he got there figuring he may as well, and signs up as Security at the hotel and Husker is one of the first people he met and tells him that he is in Hell after killing child touching catholic priests when he found a boy crying alone and talked to him kind of how a parent would and in his mind, if he was going to die, he would do so by protecting people who cannot defend themselves.

As a Huskerdust shipper, I cringed so hard when VG said he saw them as father & son. I know not everyone will ship them but that really caught me off guard 😬😅

No disrespect at all, I just can’t see how ppl don’t see the romantic potential with Husk and Angel . At episode 4, sure it could be argued as platonic . I already saw it as romantic then, but I was willing to let the platonic argument cook . BUT by time we get to episode 8, there’s no way y’all can’t tell me that the romantic HuskerDust seeds are not HEAVILY being planted . Come on, you know you want to ! LOL

Husk had it easy compared to the fates of the other overlords that Alastor took down. Like all husk has to do is just work at the hotel that’s easy. He’s a great character and I hope he gets more development plus being voiced by Keith David does make me like him more lol. The reveal that he was an overlord was pretty shocking that never came to mind about his character.
I know one thing if Charlie see Al being mean to Husk like that she totally would have lost her temper for sure 😮 just like she did with val 😅 it's just a shame that she didn't kill val that day do. Angle soul totally would have being freed if she did 12:58

Money. The answer is money. The more intricately designed a character is, the more expensive it is to animate them. That's why they vastly simplified the character designs for Legend of Korra in later seasons.
If I had to take a guess as to why the design of his wings were changed, I'd probably guess that it had to do with making his design easier to animate? I'm talking out of my ass here, but I do think that might be the case.
The 70s was 4-14 years after cats wee normalized so that could be why he died in the 70s and is a cat.

I know that Crymini and Husk are supposed to have more of a father daughter kinda dynamic with each other. Though I can't help but thing when they have to redesign her, they're gonna make her a full on dog instead of a hyena. Because when I first saw her I thought she was a dalmatian based sinner.

And I think you also have a real good point about the choice to leave just the hearts as well. I think if they wanted to simplify his design and still maintain all four they definitely could have. (If I were doing this, personally, I'd like incorporate them as cuff links or buttons. Things that aren't... in a hecking repeating pattern you have to keep track of.) Or they could have just taken ALL of the symbols out. Leaving just the hearts is an intentional choice and it really works well to contrast his gruff exterior. Like - even if you're not explicitly thinking about hidden meanings, I think the hearts literally soften up his design. So it works great!
I hope so badly that they stay platonic. Romance shouldn't be forced between characters. And making every relationship gay gets really, really, REALLY old after a while.
