Shane was born with a neuromuscular disease called Spinal Muscular Atrophy that requires him to use an electric wheelchair. He is the author of several award-winning books, the President of a nonprofit organization called Laughing At My Nightmare, and a renowned public speaker who has performed across the country at places such as Harvard University, The University of Florida, The University of Connecticut, Princeton University, and many more.
Hannah is a senior at Carleton College, studying sociology and anthropology. She works as a researcher for an educational consulting firm. Her future aspirations include attending law school and owning a goat sanctuary. She films and edits the “Squirmy and Grubs” vlog.
Shane and Hannah have been dating for over 2.5 years and living together in Minneapolis in recent months. Their interabled relationship often confuses people, because much of society still cannot fathom people with disabilities being involved in loving, intimate relationships. Anyone who watches these episodes will quickly see their relationship is just as “normal” as any other. Sure, Hannah helps Shane use the bathroom and brush his teeth, but those activities do not detract from the emotional, intellectual, and physical connection they experience together.
Hannah just wants to live her life and tell us her favorite ice cream and eat candy and Shane's out here roasting her the whole time and like honestly goals

I’m not sure exactly what you are implying. But by that assessment if I-understand u correctly, I would never have been born .Never had the education & opportunities I’ve had that make me the person Iam today , by my fathers hard works and example of living honorably.
You see -
My mother married my dad in 1960. An honorable hardworking caring man by all accounts.
Born with a neural tube defect he was termed “paraplegic” although he walked with difficulty later & eventually was wheelchair bound. Dying in 1997 of unrelated causes. He was the father of two grandfather of 4
Successful driven business owner who loved his family and helped others more than himself at times.
Anything he was told he could never do he did. Except walk.
He was mocked his entire life. Even as a small child I noticed the hurtful stares & whispers.
This too smacks of mocking. It hit me with a thud in my gut as those old sick feelings of that radiated throughout my body.
Is the question really perhaps “ How dare a disabled man have a real life-achieve his educational goals- start a successful business-marry a pretty kind energetic non disabled woman who loves him & seeks her own higher education ??

Shane is seriously so lucky to have Hannah. I actually think anybody in this entire world would be lucky to have Hannah. Like look, Shane is freaking awesome and my statement is denoting in NO way that she is “too good” for him or people with physical disabilities aren’t deserving, but she is just phenomenal! The attention, care, patience and love she has is something not everybody and anybody can posses. What a wonderful and lovely human. I love this couple!

I am 43 years old and just started using a wheelchair. Shane inspires me so much I cant put it to words. Hannah also inspires me. I love that you guys make it all work.

@@alibaebee7675 I'm actually disabled and homebound and have been working on getting a permanent mail-in ballot. So it can be done! :) It's just annoying to jump through the hoops.

This, this is what made me believe in true love again. They are so great together and isnt that really what everyone wants in their life. I went through a pretty toxic relationship and this gives me hope that there is happy out there.
What I don't understand are people who try to "debunk" their relationship. Hannah is always loving up on Shane, and the way she looks at him, you can tell she is so in love. I love their relationship! 🥺😭😍🥰

I laughed really hard at the teeth brushing part. This is really what it’s like for every helper and every person having their teeth brushed by someone else! It’s so hard to figure out where the toothbrush is supposed to go! I often jab my son’s gums and cheeks. Thanks for showing everyday things like this! This is what your channel should be! Just you two living life!

When my son was little (small?) and I brushed his teeth I used both hands, with the left hand on his jaw just to know where the brush was in relations to the teeth
I had a mix up with my bipolar medication and because of it I haven't had my meds in three days so I've been very depressed and angry, your videos are literally the only thing keeping me from having a full on meltdown right now and I'm so grateful for that. Thank you for always making me laugh

omg. Watching this, it's like watching my own home movies because both of you as individuals (as well as your relationship dynamic) remind me so much of me + my fiance. No wonder both of your Myers-Briggs personality profiles were identical to ours! LOL Maybe this is why I find watching your channel so easy and enjoyable, because it's comfortable and familiar. My fiance & I have been together for almost 22 years (hoping to get married next year, medical issues permitting). And our relationship has been through a lot, especially since I became disabled 5 years ago. Watching you both gives me great joy and lifts my spirits on the bad days.

On the cookies, they may have been too warm in room temperature. That's why they melt/spread out like that in the oven. Stick the cookie dough in the fridge for a good 30 mins/hour or so and let it get cool again before putting cookie dough hunks on the cookie sheet for cooking!!

i know this is a old video, but i just watched it, and i want to say that; Hannah, your favourite ice cream flavour it's a "dessert" in my country! Dulce de Leche is from Argentina, and it's used like nutella, we put it in toast, cakes, cookies or just eat it from the jar! maybe u already know this but just in case!! :)

A small tornado hit our house and four around us a decade and a half ago. The house rocked on its foundation (well built house!) and the wind screamed like a freight train - yes, really. Laid a big pine down in our backyard 😢 but little other damage. Hey, Hannah, you dance good. Fun!

Why are the houses in tornado-areas build so weak? In Europe we use stone and cement for the walls. Our houses are safe against all kind of weather-issues. We don't have to hide, just close doors and windows and everyone is safe.
Loving the content! As a side note, I usually find that cookies spread like that when there isn’t enough flour. If you toss an extra 1/8 cup(ish) into the recipe you used, you should be good to go. Sometimes if you don’t put in exactly the right amount, they spread like that. Sometimes on cooking shows you see the baker overfill the measuring cup and then use a knife to level it off to get the perfect volume. A very impressive first baking adventure, you’ll be making perfect cookies from scratch in no time! Making cookies is the perfect procrastination tool during exams! :)

To be honest, this is why people don't see wheelchair-bound individuals that often. It isn't because they are scarce, it is because so many places aren't accessible! Taxes need to be put more successfully into 1) Making life more accessible to people in wheelchairs and 2) Finding ways to lessen the number of animals killed on the road.
Government have better things to worry about than wasting 2 billion making ramps And Animals will always get run over its how nature works Animals arent smart enough to see danger in that way.

I don't really comment much but..
I just discovered you guys last night and I have watched you for 20 minutes or so today. I came to appreciate the refreshing dynamic of your relationship together. You guys are a very endearing couple. Hannah has a very special heart, and Shane has a very special way about him.
Of me watching your videos for the past 20 minutes or so, I could make a good 3-minute compilation of instances when Shane is being particularly disagreeable to Hannah- and a larger compilation of Hannah showing the patience of a saint and simultaneously being an extremely positive person.
It is none of my business, and I apologize for being critical, but I want to let you know that words are a loaded gun to the hearts of others, and we should think before we speak especially when feeling emotional about something, or even irritated. I can tell that Hannah feels hurt/annoyed when you say things that come off overly-critical and even condescending. I am sure this is already been brought to your attention but I just want to let you know that you could definitely hope for a long future with Hannah if you learn how to be loving in your words towards her, and kicks the habit of being mean to her just because you think it's funny, which is just extremely lazy, unfunny, and hurtful humor.

While it might seem hurtful too you, it may just be a non toxic play thing for them. They would have a time and place for the name calling. Even when Hannah gives it too Shane, he smiles about it and laughs it off. I think if it was any drama behind it at all they wouldnt post it. ♡

I know with our "special people" in our family we pick on them and I think it's bc it's what we do to EVERYONE and we don't discriminate EVERYONE GETS A PIECE OF THE JOKING AND TEASING. It helps them feel less different and more like everyone else. I think these two have a healthy enough relationship to be themselves and pick at each other. God bless you and yours

Shane actually had an electric toothbrush until we accidentally left it in a hotel in Washington DC a few months ago. Now, he refuses to buy another one on principle.

I personally find someone brushing my teeth with an electric toothbrush more uncomfortable than without. It's uncomfortable enough without it vibrating haha. I use a special type that brushes all sides at the same time and I bought fake teeth for people to practice on before they're allowed near because I am significantly less chill than Shane during the process haha. I am however waiting for an amabrush which is a mouthpiece and brushes all your teeth at the same time in 10 seconds. But it's kickstarter so it could be another 10 years if everything else I have received from there is anything to go by! They are aiming for general sales soon though. If it works it could be a good gadget for disabled people.
I live in Washington IL, so I know a thing or two about how scary tornadoes can be especially when you have someone with a disability that can’t easily get to a safe area!
we had a tornado. So I carried both of my kids' wheelchairs to the basement then them. Thankfully it missed us and the kids didn't care because the internet didn't go out so we still had wifi for cartoons. Important things.
