love the song, this American loves Canada,my people(African American)have great respect for Canada when my ancestors ran to freedom Canada was the destination where they were welcomed and treated with respect.
I am so proud to call myself CANADIAN, an individual living in the greatest nation on earth. I always get a lump in my throat and become teary eyed whenever I see our Maple Leaf flying while visiting other countries envious of our great nation. Long live the Red and White flag of our beloved homeland, CANADA!
I always loved "I Am Australian" by the Seekers, and wished that we have a tribute song for Canada in the same vein. We Are Canadian can be that song. Beautiful.
Thank you! My dream is to see it peformed on Parliament Hill on some post-Covid Canada Day with the crowd waving small Canadian flags and singing along with the choruses. It happens with "I Am Australian!" Why not here? Ellis.
As a 24th-generation Canadian, I am always so very thankful to my ancestors who helped settle this very beautiful country in 1585. We all owe so very, very much to those who founded Canada and to the innumerable many who struggled and built Canada as it is today. 🇨🇦
@@kingfearghail1014 Between 1534 and 1542, Jacques Cartier made three voyages across the Atlantic, claiming the land for King Francis I of France. Cartier heard two captured guides speak the Iroquoian word kanata, meaning “village.” By the 1550s, the name of Canada began appearing on maps.
Thank YOU Mr. Ellis Craig, for your passionate work in creating an amazing vocal (thanks also to Carey Blackwell for the music and singer Alan Sandeman) and visual history of our country! It needs to shared regularly to remind us how fortunate we are live in Canada.
To Ellis Craig: We do need your song. It really ticks me off that at concerts and in schools they do not sing Oh Canada any more and lots of people in the audiences don't even know the words. I went to Alexander Muir School and the principle there wrote the Maple Leaf for ever and I think that all our Canadian songs should be put out there to show our new comers how proud we are of our country. Thank you for recognizing our history and for knowing we are not perfect nor ever will be. My family like so many others arrived during the potato famine. My great grandfather surveyed Ontario from Gananoque to the French River. He would not have survived without the Indigenous folks who got him through his first winter. He settled in Magnetawan. Within his family was an RCMP officer - one of the first company to go to the gold rush area quickly being populated in Yukon, another of my uncles died on April 19. 1917 at Vimy. I am Canadian.
Thank you! Just read your reply now. Seeing your uncle died at Vimy you might be interested in my song about our unknown soldier. You can find it at Remembrance - Music and Songs - "Known Just to God and Me". Check out Remembrance - Poems for a song in preparation about the Normandy invasion. Ellis.
What a brilliant song - the lyrics, music and singing are perfectly harmonised. Thank you for encapsulating so much of what makes me so honoured to be a Canadian.
Thank you Jeanne and Ron - I will pass your comment on to singer Alan Sandeman. Please see for another fine rendition by Alan - about our unknown soldier. Ellis.
"We came on ships across the sea..." The "we" is meant to include all the early Europeans, including the Vikings, who came to this country to find indigenous peoples already here. For the purpose of the song, I would argue that it doesn't really matter who was first; they were all "builders".
@@elliscraig8594 And we shoukd add a stanza before this one, "As we came on ships across the seas, we destroyed those peoples there before us. We obliterated the Beohtuk, we went to kill many more throughout different tribes. We can't forget the natives of this land we now call Canada and are we yet, all considered all equal Canadians?
Yes I am proud Canadian too marvelous song thank you

Hi how are you doing
Canada became a country in 1884 not 1585 so I'm not sure how you can be a 24th generation Canadian.

You should read the full Canadian history. The French people were here a long time before the English people, It should be included in your song...
