Narrator:
No one was left who could remember how it had happened, how the world had fallen under darkness.
At least no one who would do anything.
No one who would oppose the robots.
No one who would challenge their power,
or so Dr. Wily believed...
Twenty Floors above the dark streets of the city, Dr. Light lived in a run-down tenement.
An eccentric and brilliant man.
Light was a loner, a thinker, a man of ideas.
Ideas forbidden in Wily's society.
The society for which he worked.
The society in which he lived.
The society that he would set free.
And so Light worked, far into the night, when the watchful eyes of Wily's robots weren't upon him.
He'd set his skillful hands to the task of creating a device to bring about a change, to create a machine to bring freedom, to create a man to save the world.
Twelve years Light worked and on a cold night in the year 200X, Protoman was born.
A perfet man, an unbeatable machine, hell-bent on destroying every evil standing between man and freedom, built for one purpose, to destroy Wily's army of evil robots. Ready, willing, prepared to fight

Fireman:
Attack!
Narrator:
Fight.
And as the smoke cleared.
Wiley rose above the countless robots remaining. Protoman was wounded, low on energy, struggling to remain standing as Wily ordered the final attack.
The death of Protoman.
The crowd had gathered there to watch him fall, to watch their hopes destroyed.
They watched them beat him, they watched them break him, they watched his last defense deployed.
There was not a man among them who would let himself be heard.
But from the crowd, from the collective fear, arose these broken words:
We are the dead
We are the dead
Human Choir: What have we done?
Narrator: We are the dead
Human CHoir: What will we do?
Narrator: We are the dead
Human Choir: Where will we turn?
Narrator: We are the dead
Human Choir: Is there nothing we can do?
Narrator: We are the dead
Human Choir: How did it come to this?
Narrator: We are the dead
Human Choir: How did we go so wrong?
Narrator: We are the dead
Human Choir: We are the dead
no bad blood turbo. just want the protomen presented in the best light possible. thanks for doing what you have done to get the word out.
@SaintInsanity02 For the recording of Act 1, The Protomen deliberately used analogue equipment to get a flawed sound. So the fact that the singing is not clear is at least intentional.
Yah man, they opened for Tenacious D the other day and they truly blew me away! Great band!! :D
@OmniGDaSage Obviously you haven't seen The Protomen live then have you?

For Heavy. For Mega Man fans everywhere
They are too good to have under 2 million views on youtube. I would love to see them launch a movie soundtrack or some better PR to get them more exposure. Personally I like Unrest in the House of Light ,this song and The Will of One the best. Great work. A trip in theatrical ambiance to see them live and a nice group of members in this band !!!
now this is my opinion and dont get me wrong i like this band and the music but the story line is all wrong and yeah you could tell me its in another universe all you want but i just dont buy it the hero is megaman and yeah protoman is awsome on his own but really come on he had a flaw that was going to kill him thats why he ran away from doc light
Ok, i got ya now :). That makes more sense, and yes, American bands are like a crapy version of vanilla most of the time. They all sound close, if not exactly the same, and most of them are recycling old music that has fallen out of the copy right law. But, Rock Opera is only weird if you haven't heard of it before. Remeber the movie Pinball, that was one Giant Rock Opera. :)
Those guys absolutely kick ass. Awesome unique sound and that video is pretty neat too. Everybody who likes this should also check out the whole album for more great songs, especially "The Will Of One" and "The Stand".
You know in the song when light finishes protoman they say he's "an unbeatable machine". Yet the second half of the song talks about the robot masters tearing him to pieces. It makes it sound like they're saying protoman is all bark and no bite.
Still a good song though.
It just doesn't seem natural AT ALL. First of all, alot of good bands don't come from America (the Beatles and Black Sabbath come to mind).
And doesn't a rock opera just SOUND weird? Much moreso one about a minor character in a video game series that doesn't have alot of story.
thats boring, the musics dry, and the animations aren't great, you'd expect more from professional animators anyway. if it was just made in someones spare time id be congradulating them but for a real bands music video its kind of a let down.
thumbs down im afraid :(
@StrickenRecord I can understand your opinion. Gritty spins on childrens' tales and other cute things are getting very old. I was never really into the Megaman series (GASP!), but I just love these guys for the music they make :P
@TheFinalCut6 That's kind of the point though. It's a darker telling of the original Megaman games. It's not bound to the strict storyline, I personally like it more this way. Also if you listen to the later songs, you find out that Megaman is still the hero.
I have to disagree, I think the visuals and musical media fit the specific emotion they're trying to convey. I admit, it's not flashy, nor is it as driving as say, the will of one, but I think it fits the story conveyed in the song.
To be fair, the original Megaman game, which this is based off, didn't have much of a story to begin with. They basically just took the rough outline and made either more epic, too complicated or rebooted it.
If I were to criticize this song, it would the the part after the narrative, the listing of 'x'man etc. I think it just makes it cheesy after a great start.
@nefets99 ...yes, yes it is. It's supposed to be roughly the equivalent of what you'd get from a bunch of old equipment that was lashed together in a disused building under an oppressive regime.
@GadGades You're welcome to yuour opinion, and I'm happy you got more out of it than I did. ^.^ Oh, and the X series did live up to the promise of being badass.. well, for the first four games, anyway. :p
@MusicOfCavemen I still get goosebumps every time I hear the choir of 'Destroy Him!' in Sons of Fate. The Protomen are musical geniuses, I'm trying to spread them to as many friends as I can IRL.
@StrickenRecord
I am bias to the protomen and megas theses days, I like my works dark, edgy, intelligent and philosophical something that I can take into my adult years with me
Its not fair. They're playing an hour away from where I live on the first day of my vacation next month and I have to be on a plane that morning. Damn! I want to see them so bad.
@staffzx Actually it was telling of how he was the to be the true savior of men, but was unfortunately no match for wily's masterbots, which is where megaman comes in
@StrickenRecord
Well the X series already did that. I think its fun they made a story. Some people seem to read more into it then it really is. I think its enjoyable.
They need to add a newsletter - I bought both albums but had no idea they were performing in Toronto until it was too late :(
Hopefully they come back!
@Americanbadashh The idea is still the same: a variation on a cutesy thing made to look more "badass" that doesn't live up to said promise, imo anyways.
I'll be that one nerd guy to mention that this isn't the story of megaman or protoman in the slightest.
Though, the video is still very, very cool.
The Protomen rock. They don't have necessarily the best instrumentals, but they more than make up for it with the story.
Dystopian Mega Man = Win.
@OmniGDaSage go see them, it is a performance. i witnessed it on the roof of a building in louisville kentucky...i have never been as happy again
wait. there are also alot of good bands from america, i mean all countries produce good and bad music. shit, america has a ton of good bands.
Eh, not my cuppa tea, the music is a bit too bleak, and the reimaginings of the characters scream "Bomberman Act Zero." Oh well. ^.^
I didn't say they were the best musicians of all time, I simply think that they are GOOD. Better then MOST, not all, American music.
@JimmyColls actually I think they ganged up on him.... that's completely against the spirit of things. Bad robot masters! Bad!
Can someone tell me whats being said in the background by the voice behind "We are the dead"? I cant quite hear it clearly.
@OmniGDaSage They did part 1 and part 2 on consecutive nights at MAGFest this year. Full stage show. It was legendary!
@24525432 - They did part 1 and part 2 on consecutive nights at MAGFest this year. Full stage show. It was legendary!
my son & I saw them in Pittsburgh July 7th, awesome show !!!!!!
they put everything into their performances !!!!
I'd say The Protomen are epic, but that'd be an insult to Protomen that they would never forgive me for.
saw them live in toronto, opened for tenascious D, never herd of them before that, i was missing out!!
@Daikaiju92 ... Okay I'll admit I could see that happening. But an hour long is way too short for me. xD
Capcom needs to make this a video game adaptation. If they were smart. Or at least an animated feature.
Does anyone else feel that Wily looks like Mr. House from Fallout: New Vegas in the music video?
These guys are opening for Tenacious D on the 27th in Vancouver gonna be a awesome show
Too bad Proto man died and Mega Man had to pick up his slack for being a inferior model
The song actually tells you the order of robots:
1.- Cutman (in this design he had his helmet scissors removed)
2.- Gutsman (he looks almost the same except for a little redesign in his helmet)
3.- Elecman (completely different, with a hat and a long coat)
4.- Bombman
5.- Fireman (the gun in hand is actually a flamethrower)
6.- Iceman
7.- Protoman
I believe your 8 robot is the big face that appears? That's also proto.
Yup, he is fireman it was my mistake, also the last robot looks a lot like iceman, even resembling the iceclimbers, yeah it confused me at first too but the audio is a little desync with that part of the video, thus causing confusion. I'll leave you a link with a better quality of the images in the video and with the name of each robot master :D
@StrickenRecord
Bomberman Act Zero came out three years after this band formed.
@Wrathchild231123
I'd have to say my favorite moment comes at the end of will of one "Someone has written in the stone, in some angry hand "hope rides alone"" get cold chills very time I hear it. More people need to know about this amazing band
Yes,yes, yes and very yes. The Protomen kick ass. Best CD I got this Christmas.
I really hope we get a video for Vengeance.
As long as it's not Funeral For A Son (maybe wrong name) or Du Vendetta, whatever video comes next, alright.
Never realized they were saying "we are the dead". 1984 reference. Awesome.
omg, I just saw them again in Bowling Green, KY at Mayhem. they are awesome.
These guys entered into one of my college papers. I do love them unto death.
@Daikaiju92 Hour long? Short film? Why not full length regular film? :[
They have a newsletter! Go to their main website and you can join it!
FOREVER ALONE......can't tell if funny or wrong that I thought of this
>Implying Protoman's abilities are equivalent to the powers of megaman
uffff yeah hell this turn me on a bad roboto xD yeah realy rock dude
Couldn't be more right. Saw them in Cleveland. One hell of a show.
just got the shirt to this music video, fucking awesome shirt :D go to there store if you guys want them. they are almost gone
@JimmyColls The Tardus will appear and Dr. Who will punish him :).
@cdiSPAGHETTI
If you have the play written, I'd love to read it.
Hope... it may ride alone... But family, it rides together.
2019?
I love the art. Kinda like the art in Spider-Man: Reign.
Ready. Willing. And Prepared to Fight. goddamn right
The quality is soo terrible. God I hate cheap youtube!
Nope, that one is Cutman, maybe you got confused by the yellowish background.
This song gives me goosepimples something fierce.
@silascole I got goosebumps reading that comment.
Eh, they're not as good as I thought they'd be.
are there any other videos of the other tracks?
COME BACK TO DRAGON CON
I MISSED YOU LAST TIME
@Noklipz he does but also kinda like a mix of Mr.house and Lincoln
oh wait, you meant the music video, my bad.
thumbs up if your kinda sad for protoman
Fuck Megaman. Protoman is where it's at.
@69soldier
they did that purposely. i personally like it.
Sakaguchi didn''t want 7 to be expanded beyond the game. The movie was pretty good in terms of working it into the story but Money talKs and Square just kept pushing for more. I often wonder if the people in power in places such as Square Enix or Konami have any idea what they're doing.
I'm going to their concert tonight! :D
@madpilotmurdock - Eh, what? There were a story don't get that wrong. The Protomen just presents an alternative dystopian timeline which is awesome. But don't think that the original didn't have a story.
Huh? Megaman isn't an RPG, of course it's not defined. Just look at Zelda as another example. Use a more-recent Final Fantasy as an example if you must, there are way too many 7 haters about.
DUde, it's a fucking rock opera.
It's not supposed to be totally accurate, it's just supposed to be an awesome story based on the Megaman franchise.
And it is. :)
@darknuttheover9000th He's Elec Man.
32 people were former robot masters.
The drums on this song are amazing.
Could you make a better one, then?
True. I mean, when you look at what huge seaming piles of crap X-2 and XII were, they had to get money from somewhere right? The movie.
omg.... omg... aweosme
I agree with you to the last, madpilotmurdock.
They create their own vision of the story, and it's stunning. This is lifetimes ahead of all the crap normal fans churn out...their original characters and plots. No, these guys go above and beyond and create an altogether different world; one that is just as good as the original. It's not afraid to deviate. Boldly and successfully. 5/5 this shit rocks, go Protomen
Everyone needs to stop posting canon material and criticizing The Protomen for not following it. First of all, canon Mega-Man story barely existed until later iterations and for the record, the animated series shown in America was neither canon nor an anime (Ruby Spears headed the animation production, after all).
Uhh...what? I was referring to the images and characters in the video being similar (and in a similar art style) to X-Men comics, especially after 2:00. One guy looks very much like Wolverine, and the giant with a round helmet is nearly identical to Juggernaut.
If anything the title refers to X-men, NOT the Protoman from Mega Man.
i don't think it does. it has a weird jumpy essence but i think the song isn't exactly brilliant anyway. and the visuals are a let down. even something like disturbed land of confusion style animation would have been better. i mean thats nor brilliant but it flows, this is just simple cut and stick motion, trey park n mat stone did a better job with cut out bits of paper.
Awesome, simply awesome. I notice that this is the same art style as that on their c.d. cover. Who is the graphic artist? Anyway, great video for a great song. Anyone know if their are plans for more? "Vengeance" I hope...And...That Westerny one that I currently forget the name of. Oh well.
I sent you the link by message, check it out (:
light up the night music video is being filmed
Negative, this is the only one.
This is just a semi relevant comment: I do believe that Break Man, the first time you face him, was protoman disguised as a robot master after he was captured by Wily or something. I may be mistaken.
How is that an oxymoron?
Oxymoron - Noun: A figure of speech by which a locution produces an incongruous, seemingly self-contradictory effect, as in cruel kindness or to make haste slowly.
