Amouranth joins Dr. K in talking about burnout, dangers of social media, burdening yourself, and letting go. A large part of this discussion comes from the curse of productivity. people feel like they should always be productive which causes burnout. Feeling productive is different from being productive. sometimes relaxing, putting yourself first, and unburdening yourself can lead to increased productivity. Amouranth has many external pressures and channels to min-max, so there is a ton of things to worry about, take care of, and ultimately burnout on.
Check out Amouranth's stream and thank her for coming on the show. / amouranth

I think it's so cool he's been about to talk with people like Allinity, Amouranth, etc. They're people who I personally don't have friendly feelings towards. To see this more humanized, vulnerable side of them gives me a more complete of a picture of who they are. And it's hard to dislike someone when you see, underneath the persona, they're just people too.

I personally, feel the complete opposite. The fact that Kate started this and feels like she can’t stop it when she knows she can. If she stops streaming to get a better job they probably won’t hire bc they don’t “want to tarnish their company’s reputation” by having a pornstar. It’s the ultimate comedy

Yup Dr K's interviews are just reminders that these people are and have always been humans. We knew this before in our hearts but it was covered up by the veil of the internet which makes people think that these streamers are something else, robots with no feels or such. Allowing them to shit on people as much as they want and only when something happens to them do they realise, shit, this guy was also human and then they stop... For a bit, before going back to treating them like robots again then the cycle keeps going. Hopefully people try to break out of that cycle.

I relate to her when she mentionned that she feels like she lost her personnality. I felt exactly like that when I was at my lowest point at 24. Seven years layer, looking back, I think I was grieving the innocent childlike part of myself that went through life blindly and carelessly.
But once I got through it and got better, I actually prefered the new, more aware version of myself.
    I hope she's better now! 💛

Dr K is on point. Shes been doing this for so long and shes been talking herself into this grinding mindset for so long that shes just completly lost. She doesnt even know how else she is supposed to feel. Shes probably making so much money and has so much attention that she thinks that she is doing great when her body and mind are telling her different. But she doesnt accept that and just ignores it and justifies her behaviour through her success. Shes basically scared of proving herself wrong. Theres also no way that just one of these talks is gonna help her. Even another talk wont help her. She has to want it. And the only way thats gonna happen is through a proper therapist. Or she works herself to complete burnout and then she realises it. Either way she has a problem.

Dr.K I would recommend you making more tittles like this instead of "talking to..." because you can have an idea of what the video is about and its a lot more apealing for the people who dont know the streamer. If you use "talking to x" it would be only apealing for the people who like the streamer or has time to watch everything you make.(if something sounds weird is because english is not my native language)

    • @cutiebigbooty
      @cutiebigbooty 3 роки тому +17

I actually mostly agree with you, but I think maybe the reason he does this is because some guests on his streams go from topic to topic, and therefore making a title that describes everything they talked about would be too long. But for other guests who focus on one issue, it's easier to title the video with more description. Does that make sense?

@@cutiebigbooty @CutieBigBooty yeah it does makes sence, and most of the times it would be imposible to write a title that actually fits everything but for example I wouldnt had watched this video if the tittle was just "talking to Amouranth" even tough I relate a lot with what she is talking about and find it very useful for myself. I've felt exactly like she described, but under drastically different circumstances. But the whole thing about taking care of yourself coming at the cost of others and feeling selfish, that's spot on. It's like building your own personal hell, but then feeling selfish if you stop building it, and then feeling like you can't complain because, hey, you built it on your own free will.
The scariest part is that so much of a persons identity is transjective not just objective. So you start to identify with the hell you built, and when you take the walls down and take time for yourself, it's like you, as a concept, don't really exist anymore.
Walking away from something like that is like literally becoming a different person. There was the you that existed before (ie in this video the smiley, putting on kids parties person), then there's the you during (robotic, overworked), and then the you after has lost so much of the before and during that you have to invent a completely new person, sometimes with a drastically different personality.

Shit. That few hours of sleep every night, and constantly high stress, will seriously increase her risk of developing Alzheimer later in life. That's in the future, however. When hearing it's been lite this for her for at least 3 years now, and hearing about her cognitive dysfunctions that has started to emerge? Soon she wont be able to work at all if she keeps this up. She'll wake up one day and discover that her body doesn't respond anymore, it takes YEARS to recover from a burnout crash of that caliber. No joke.

Damn Dr. K is fucking good. As someone who was raised by a Yoga teacher and taught breathing techniques at a young age I actually find them hard to utilize as an adult because the inner child in me wants to rebel against the things my parent taught me. Hearing the same language and techniques I was taught coming from a third party and relating to topics I have more personal experience with was beyond helpful.

I've observed myself thinking that (I don't have anything better to do anyway) which make me inclined to accept or rather not worthy to say no even if it's something I would prefer not to do. Is that idea ingrained and faulty thinking or is it tied to how I spend my time in general?

I was surprised that Dr. K didn't reach the kind of conclusion that we are used to so I went to check the type content that she creates. I think there has to be direct consequences of generating 'hollow' content for hours on end on your mental health. That would have been much more productive to talk about. It takes a ton of mental fortitude to create content that is different from her inner personality. And once you have sacrificed so much doing something you low-key hate, the fallen cost fallacy sinks in, and the problems go on.

Well, this is just a different way of saying things as what my therapist has been telling me. 😅
I'm not a highly energetic person. And so tasks with more steps tends to overwhelm me. I want to get things done. But I have trouble figuring out the steps to do the things. I also have adhd and a case of bipolar disorder. So my mind is a pretty chaotic place. And even with all the medications, I still have struggles. But I've been learning that I don't have to get everything done at once. I just need to start on something. I wanted coffee today. But my kids made a cereal mess in front of my coffee pot and on the floor. I made myself get up to fill my bird's water. And doing something on my list made it easier to do the next thing. Which was to corral my kids into cleaning up their mess. (It's easier to do it myself, but I'm trying to train my kids to clean up after themselves.) Then, even though it was a so so job of cleaning up, I could get to my coffee maker to make my coffee. And after coffee I felt like I could tidy up a bit. So my work area has been picked up some. Not perfectly, but better than before.
I'm easily overwhelmed. But it really helps to just look for the most simple thing I can do. 1% of something done is better than 0%. And rarely do I actually quit before I've made tangible progress. I just need to figure out ways to get started.

I have a weird impulse to help streamers with any issue they struggle with, if I have even the faintest of a thread of an idea.

Man I felt so much for her, especially the part at 1:26:55 where she says "exhaustion and sadness for myself" answering his question about how she feels having streamed so much for years on end. I love this channel cause you see stuff on social media or even online news sites about UA-camrs, Twitch streamers, etc, and it's so easy to forget that these are just real people in a totally new line of work, and it's really sad to see how much it can affect them sometimes. But I'm glad they choose to come on here and even if they can't or don't work with Dr. K again, maybe they will continue digging deeper into stuff and find how to be happy with themselves right now, as they are.

So I did not know who was Amouranth and never consumed her content, 1 hour before the stream I looked up that she does nsfw content I was like interested on why would Dr. K interview her, since even though I do not have a negative view towards nsfw content and who makes it, I know there is stigma and I was interested in how the people will react. I do understand now why Dr. K doesn't search who are those people he talks to, because it kinda gives you an expectation or an image of them and it ruins the whole process. And people are very judgemental of nsfw content, because it is against their morales. I think that is fine and everyone can say their opinion, but most of the time it feels that people follow the crowd and they do not know why they hate something, they just do it cause others do. Watching this stream she brought up a real problem which is over working and very high expectations, so I don't think she is any different than a workaholic at the office who watches the stream on the mean time, so her opinion shouldn't be devalued because of her career path. It is work too and it requires physical and mental energy as well.

its hard to compare actual work with sitting infront of a computer at home , talking, and sunbathing tho

Well coding or doing art is also sitting at pc all day and it still requires mental energy and can exhaust you. People feel the same as she does doing different jobs and I am not the one to gate keep who is allowed to feel a speciffic way or suffer. Is she in a better position than some, absolutely but you don't see what goes behind the scenes and in her mind neither do I.

@Wildo im sorry you're right. you CAN compare the two. Lets see. Woodworking vs sunbathing. Woodworking requires knowledge, dedicated hard work over several years to become a woodworker and continueing hard work 8-12-16 hours a day.
Lets compare this with sunbathing. First you need to be born beautiful, than you need to buy a camera, and create a twitch account. Yeah real f-ing devastating and draining.

@@jakejason4333 So streaming requires knowledge of economy and marketing, setting up your programs correctly to work in the stream and entertaining people for multiple hours a day almost every day, then hire a photographer, do photoshoots infront of hot lights and it doesn't take few minutes, sometimes it takes hours. Then you go manage your multiple accounts on social medias to everything be in check. Dont lose relevancy in the internet which is very hard as well. Keeping up the momentum, she said herself not taking a break for few years. And physical work takes a toll on your body, but mental work takes a mental toll on your mind. And even atheltes who train for multiple hours a day say that mental state is the most important thing in competing at highest level. And this channel is all about your mind, mental health, sharing experiences and how may Dr. K help or explain.

The current climate on Twitch and the internet in general is so toxic. I call it upvote culture, where everyone just memes and acts like an asshole so they can feel relevant and validated. You could see how chill Amouranth was on Miz's stream a few months ago, which confused me because of how much hate she gets. But of course I'm not supposed to say that, because "simp". Another word created for the sole purpose of negating rationality.

I'd argue that Twitch is exponentially more positive than the rest of the internet. I reccommend avoiding Twitter like the plague.

Farming upvotes is not exclusively an internet thing. It's a projection of real life into the internet. I'd argue that the whole society in general works like what you're saying about the internet. The only difference is that on the internet, people show both their toxic side and their genuine side in anonymity, based on their immediate state of mind, whereas in real life, everyone is just toxic all the time because they're ashamed of even showing their real side as it's never accepted and everything has to be a competition of who's the coolest person. Everyone's commited to just act cool all the time. In real life, I would never get away with saying that my hobby is either learning new languages or playing chess or playing computer games, because people will call all of these things boring and the conversation ends right there. Yet somehow on the internet, every other person likes these things. I find the internet quite refreshing to be honest. I'd even say internet in itself is a very positive feature.

i wish she could set up a day off from the stream, then its expected and might not effect they views, exept for the potentional views of that day. and a break for her could be caring for her animals taling it easy and not work social media on that day. i se my self in alot of those situations and know then self isolation is really bad, wich i think she know. take care ya'll self care is the best way to care for others :) Edit, i wrote this while just watched half the video :P :)
