Hey ! I owned a 2020 touring and just exchanged it for a 2024 Touring. As you can tell, I absolutely love it. The engineering behind it and how it drives is great. The Honda i-VTM4 All-Wheel Drive makes all the difference. The 9-speed V6 is a gem. Longevity and reliability !
Joe, re: the zonk to lack of LED lighting... you have to zonk the manufacturers for not making a drop in replacement LED bulb but instead going to integrated LED modules so when the LED modules go out you have to replace the whole housing.
Hands down hondas reliabilty and affordability is why its my choice of vehicle. Two of my vehicles over 300000 miles. Passport is the next car. Honda is functional, reliable & affordable hands down!
Went with a 23 passport for the wife. Only paid 22k with 40k miles. Best option for a real transmission and v6 with no turbo. Not the best looking but cheaper than the Toyotas by far. We love it.

@@Teporame the only extras I added was the towing package, and the dealer tacks on $600 for a mudflap detail package that you really can’t avoid. So, take off the $600 and it’s closer to $44,900 ish. Taxes and fees vary based on each state. I don’t pay that stuff till 30 days later when I had to pay Nebraskas high registrstion fee (close to $900) and sales tax of nearly $3K. It has been an expensive buy in.
I got a 24 Black Edition. I don't really need the off road capabilities of the Trail Edition and the difference was $2000. With that I got a better sound system, the 20" black wheels, and cooled seats which has been nice with the recent heat wave. I drove a pilot too and oddly enough I think it rode a little better. However, I don't need a 3rd row, we have limited space in the driveway, and the Passport seems to have better acceleration than the Pilot when needed. The transmission mapping at lower gears can be a bit tricky but not nearly has bad as my Atlas was and the ride can get slightly bouncy at times. Overall I have had the Passport for just two weeks now and would recommend it. The 2025 models are coming out too so you can probably find a 2024 now for under MSRP.
Jsport aftermarket accessories.You can get a 1.5 inch lift kit & other goodies. What sets the Trailsport apart is the torque vectoring AWD system. It compeats with the Forester/Outback/Crosstrek, & Rav4 TRD off road. A 4Runner would blow this out of the water. Other crossovers like the CX50 don't have a torque vectoring AWD system.
At the end of the day, Joe, the changes are nice.........not THRILLING........but niiiiiiiice. 😊 I'll wait for the highly anticipated redesign coming our way, Raiti. 😮

Just bought one. V6 in a 2 rows SUV and....no CVT !!!! ...I tried it for 10 minutes. Fall in love with it. But at the same time, I will miss my V6 Crosstour 2013. I like to think that this Passport , is a cool cousin of my Crosstour.!!!

My 2019 Honda Pilot at 32000 miles needs new injectors and can’t seem to find , dealership said out of stock, same thing online. I would recommend a Honda to anyone I tried calling Honda because there’s an extended warranty for the injectors but apparently only some 2019 Pilot do get the warranty, mine doesn’t
On the 2024 model year. The Passport’s vents got redesigned resembling the one from the Fourth Generation Pilot. This change also applies to the Ridgeline.
Your point deductions are spot on and I agree that for 44k, they should have included LED turn signals, heads-up display and a forward-facing camera, especially since it is the trail edition. The Honda reliability and the available trunk space make this a great choice regardless.
Bulbs yes. But companies don’t just put in LED bulbs. They manufacture whole LED modules. When they need to be replaced, it’s 500 and up for each one. So be happy Honda didn’t change it. You can buy LED bulbs for cheap.

Looks good with the "Trail Sport" badging featuring the Colorado Rockies. Passport looks rough and ready for going off-road where anything can happen to you. More vehicles should have an engine compartment hood that opens wide so you can see what there is in there.

Joe, I’m with you on most of your assessments of the vehicles that you review, however your zonks for incandescent lights bulbs leave me scratching my head. LED light assemblies are nice until you have to replace one. I’d much rather spend a buck or two for a bulb, than have to spend potentially hundreds of dollars for an entire assembly all because one segment of LEDs went out. I guess it’s the way of the industry nowadays, but I don’t necessarily consider it a good thing.
one problem is cooling system is not that effective especially trany and rear diff,over heating light will flash if you give heavy throttle for little while and price also very heavy for an average American house hold.🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
Can't have a drain because it's a removable piece to access the tire. Water would get between it and the actual floor or up from the road or a car wash.
I find the Pilot too big for my needs and drives a bit like a boat. The Passport is the right size, drives a bit better, and has better gas mileage, but there is a class action lawsuit against Honda due to problems with the 9 transmission (actually from when the transmission was in the Pilot. It is still in the Passport). I understand Honda for the Passport in 2025 is going to switch to the 10 speed transmission, upgrade the interior some, and improve the bumpers. I say wait for the redesign in 2025 and then decide. Now if we could just get them to switch to a timing chain instead of a belt....Ok, I'm dreaming...
I'm so sad about the timing belt. I have a 2011 kia sorento now v6 and I LOVE it but sadly it has a very expensive repair that I can't justify. I was rushed to find a new vehicle, hate thrid row so i settled on the passport. I'm waiting on my trailsport to come in and have been researching, upset that it's not DOHC and no timing chain.
Be happy you can change bulbs for cheap to LED. When manufacturers change to LED, they use modules to meet safety requirements. Those are 500 and up for each one. Not easy to change and have to special order. So you can change to LED bulbs easy. Be happy it’s old school and best of both worlds. Honda saved everyone money and aggravation for future. Wait till to get a car that you need to change out a whole LED cluster. Some vehicles can be thousands.
Why do car companies that make an off-road version of their SUVs ignore approach and departure angles and ground clearance? Subaru was smart enough to increase ground clearance and approach/departure angles in their Wilderness trims.
I'll definitely wait for the Prologue. Looks way nicer. Although, I'm not sure what Honda's strategy is, partnering with GM, and then turning around and saying they WON'T be partnering them after the Prologue. What the heck is going on at Honda?
What's the point in placing the Turn Signals down so low? Can't be seen in most traffic situations. Bad design IMHO. The engine still uses a timing belt. Something to think about if you plan on owning it for awhile.

Love this vehicle...not many people actually need a 7 seat SUV. I wish they would go hybrid with the powertrain or at least use the Pilot powertrain. This tells me that a complete update is coming soon.
They will go hybrid eventually. Unfortunately they will drop to 4 cylinder and lose 80 hp. Are you willing to make that sacrifice in loss of power to save some fuel? Look at CRV if you want Hybrid.
I bought a 2020 Passport Elite new in February 2021 (now has 45,000 miles), and it's been a great vehicle. The one downside are the 20-inch wheels. I've been reluctant to take mine off-road because because of the lower profile tires and risk of damage. (I live in San Diego and enjoy being in the deserts east of here.) One "zonk" on the 2024 Trailsport, IMHO, is the lack of recovery points built into the bumpers/frame, especially if they're going to market it as off-road capable.
I wouldn’t mind an SR5 premium, but where I live, the Toyota dealerships have lost their minds and they start off at $52K. Thinking of opting out for something like this Trailsport since I’ve seen some for under MSRP.
That’s a lie Timing belt last over 100,000 miles because I have seen it but only issue might be the pulleys . Only thing that doesn’t last long is the injectors and that’s a fact
@@magnoliap5824chains are not bulletproof. Wait till you stretch one in a Toyota. You’ll see how expensive of a job it is. Chains still need to be checked and changed. They are known to stretch too. Nothing is bulletproof.

You don't need a drain plug. Just get a 12v water pump with car adapter that you plug into the cigarette lighter plug in the trunk.
That viewable area on the center screen is about the same size as my cellphone turned sideways.

You still gotta drill through metal body and mend plastic to metal body if you want that. I wouldn’t suggest it.

Honda doesn't offer a skid plate option, were you referencing after market?
Honda buys them through aftermarket company. Also have 3” lift too. Honda can install them.

Well it has two rows instead of 3.
The explorer will be a pile of junk after 100k miles where as the Honda will feel clean and tight all the way to 200k.

They will go hybrid eventually. Unfortunately they will drop to 4 cylinder and lose 80 hp. Are you willing to make that sacrifice in loss of power to save some fuel?
Look at CRV if you want Hybrid.
If it had a drain plug in the back storage space and if the rear wiper was put in its place under the rear roof spoiler, the rig would be perfect.

I bought a 2020 Passport Elite new in February 2021 (now has 45,000 miles), and it's been a great vehicle. The one downside are the 20-inch wheels. I've been reluctant to take mine off-road because because of the lower profile tires and risk of damage. (I live in San Diego and enjoy being in the deserts east of here.)
One "zonk" on the 2024 Trailsport, IMHO, is the lack of recovery points built into the bumpers/frame, especially if they're going to market it as off-road capable.

I wouldn’t mind an SR5 premium, but where I live, the Toyota dealerships have lost their minds and they start off at $52K. Thinking of opting out for something like this Trailsport since I’ve seen some for under MSRP.
Nawh to dated to buy new at 50K after taxes. A used one maybe but thats far as i would go.

It has a timing belt. The timing belt must be replanced every 60,000 miles. The cost for that is from $1600 to $ 1800 😢😢😢😢

Timing belt last over 100,000 miles because I have seen it but only issue might be the pulleys .
Only thing that doesn’t last long is the injectors and that’s a fact

Agree this is why I don’t buy Honda. Toyota goes with the chain which is virtually bulletproof.
@@magnoliap5824chains are not bulletproof. Wait till you stretch one in a Toyota. You’ll see how expensive of a job it is. Chains still need to be checked and changed. They are known to stretch too.
