Because of strong and constant winds blowing in Oklahoma, chairs won't work, so I sat my totes on a cement block with another block on each side. And I make my horseshoe shaped tote beds that way. 2 totes sharing 1/2 side of each cinder block. I'm single and cook enough to eat within 2-3 days so don't have food leftovers. I use my mowed grass clippings, coffee grounds, and crushed egg shells to put down into my pitchers and other mini compost containers. My totes garden is doing fantastic! 68 double planted and 15-5 gal buckets. Thanks a million, Robbie and Gary, for all your amazing videos. True gardening pioneers!
I wish that I had found you years ago! I've got my basters and need to make the fountains. I always love your information. Don't listen to anyone who says that you talk to much. Love seeing your garden and Gary's. You help so many people.
What no she doesn’t … I love that she talks … makes me feel like I’m right there with her… I look forward to her videos very day. I’ve just gone and purchased another tub on legs from Bunnings. There is only 2 of us so only need a small amount of produce. I wish I could show you what they look like.
The pride you have in your garden is contagious. My seizures are holding me back a bit with the large plans I had for this season's garden, but I'm taking things slower because I want to enjoy nature and whatever bounty it bestows me. My Monarda were blooming today with feather-like hot pink flowers. Made my day as did the father Robin who has taken residence in my garden. He sings for the world to take notice. Hugs, ~ Covah
Your garden looks beautiful! I just ate some cucumbers and onions that I fixed in a mixture of water, sugar, and vinegar. They were delicious. Thank you so much for teaching us how to grow in totes!! 😊❤❤😊
Robbie, I love your chair garden, rainbow garden,,,,all of the gardens 🤗 Re planting what you like, I would say even if you think you don’t like something, try growing it anyway at first. Home grown taste and texture is NO comparison to store bought. If you don’t like it, turn it into compost. No loss there.
That was a very good video. I’m lifelong Gardener older now. Looking for ways to make it easier so I can keep guarding. I think I’m gonna try your tope method. My friend next-door and I were just discussing we were going to go to raised beds next year, because the fight of the weeds in us getting older and our backs think you have the answer. I’m gonna give it a try. Thank you for the video.
Or garden soil is fantastic. First message didn't post. I was telling you about Stay Green soil at Lowes. It's very good and less expensive. I got 2 cf of garden soil for $3. 38. I've used for a long time.
You thought out of the box and made this work beautifully. I am kicking myself for purchasing two raised beds that will take so much work to fill. I wish I had found you last year. Thank you so much!
You can fill raised bed in the same way. If you have or know of anyone that has down trees or trimmed branches...use the logs and branches. Cardboard layer flat on very bottom, then tree logs/branches, then grass clippings, water each layer and repeat if you need to. Paper shredded or just layed flat and then your kitchen scraps. Water again.Of course, the last layer is dirt, but it doesn't have to be a thick layer or an expensive layer. In the fall, once everything is harvested, start with the cardboard and repeat the layers. Then it's ready in the spring 😊
This is my 2nd year with a small chair garden thanks to you! My walkway to my shed is along my raised back deck so I made a trellis going up from pots(tote sized) over making a roof connecting to the top railing of my back deck. I recycled wood, branches-whatever I had. I guess its like half an arbor. I love it! Its unique!
'Get gardening!' Best advice ever!! And whatever size bed folks are working with - you can start the same way with leaves, kitchen scraps, small branches ... we had a brush pile with dry, year old blackberry trimmings - made a great base in my larger raised bed!
Looking great happy gardening!! I love pickled vegetables can you show us how you make pickled zucchini sometime Ive never attempted it and my pickled cucumbers were a little too soft
Hi Robbie, even though I have gardened off and on most of my life...well, there is still so so so much to learn. Since i got my totes from a friend that had used them for his Craft Shows he did and well, they got used alot and so they just made it for two years in my climate (New York State) and now I have too dig the soil out of the four that have actually cracked and you can't pick them up, so I need to dig out the soil and get new totes and fill them. Thank God I had a few that made it still and decided to use smaller containers to start my vegys this year. But, with the work that I have to do, and getting at least four more totes, well, the rest of my garden will be very late, hoping I actually get to do it and have a good harvest dispite the delay. Wish me well, OK? God Bless, Sherry :)
Oh man, I just spent $450 on 3 corrugated metal raised bed containers. Still have to bend over! I so wish I had seen this yesterday! But I want several more so I'm putting this system together. Thanks for this!
😊 15:08 I’ve been watching your videos for the past couple months now and I like the ideas I have quite a few toads that I had gotten from people are just throwing them away to meters peppers. It’ll in a lot of things I just can’t get over how well they’re growing.
Same here because I tried to pickle them this year and they didn't turn out great. I'll probably pitch the jars soon. Something about the texture didn't set right with me.
I love your videos and I have to say thank you for all the wonderful and inexpensive ideas for gardening. You come up with the greatest stuff. I watched that first video on setting up your chair garden a few years ago, and I have been hooked ever since. I bought a house a few years ago and this house was sold as is. This worked out great for me because it came with garden tools and a large supply of those white plastic patio chairs and totes. I was trying to figure out how I could build a raised bed on the cheap and there you came with the answer. Several years later my totes are going strong with 5 gal buckets underneath filled with soil and catching the run off from the totes. I love my own chair garden and now I’m using the irrigation tubing for all kings of things. I’m retired now so my income is limited but I’ve got a chair garden and tulle and irrigation tubing. My only problem is what can I do next 😂😂
Been watching your gardens evolve for 3 years. I think this the best so far! Btw baby formula around me way expensive. Don’t know how families afford it.
I have been looking for videos just like yours for over a year... I am so excited I found you ! You just popped up on a random set of videos on "home" !!!!!
Would love to see you do a tutorial with recipe for your pickled zucchini. I love everything you do and I'm always getting new ideas from you. Thank you
I’m a common sense person, this is the reason I like you/your videos but you are quite amazing. Thank you so much for sharing your genius with us. Whoever is not watching your videos, they are really missing out ❣️. Any tips for more blooms on flowers? Do you grow flowers with the same techniques as vegetables? Please let us know. God bless you 🙏🏻❤️
Beautiful ! I’m so excited to get mine going ! My stakes came last night! They are 4 ft , I think they are to tall . I’m just waiting for the tulle and irrigation . Can’t wait ! I have four squash under grow lights , and peas. Cheap grow lights. I live in an apartment and I’m having so much fun thanks to you and your informative fun videos! Thank you so much❤
You always have fabulous ideas, especially for gardening on a dime. That's so important because people don't want to spend a fortune to try growing food. I have downloaded some of your videos to show as an encouragement to a gardening group that I have begun hosting.
I needed your enthusiasm :) I'm a bit down after coming from the garden that I had covered to keep pests out only to find little green worms happily chewing down my brocolli, Kale, and cauliflower....so frustrating. I need more totes... :) I love your chair garden.
You have inspired me with your thriftiness! I talk about you to my mom she has two totes planted now and started composting in a trash can she liked the pitcher idea but she has these pots she is going to use.
I am saving up to buy the tubing. It is a brilliant idea and easy to use. Thank you so much for the tips you share. I bought tulle and am using it already❤
Robbie your garden looks beautiful, my cucumbers are about to start coming in i can't wait, today i brought some zucchini from a local farmer they were so good, I even cooked the skins.
🥰 you are awesome Robbie! Thank you for inspiring ❤🔥me to try to garden…I have never heard of Zuc as a meat substitute 😮 n pickled zucchini 😱 that sounds delicious! 🤗
I had some compost water and put straight on the plant but didn’t dilute and it burnt the plant and it’s in shade too.very strong that compost tea .I love it more than seasol
I learn this tote container from you and felling it up with all kitchen and garden scraps , thank you but now I have lots lots flower on my cucumbers and zucchini plant but I do t see more then one or 2 fruit from of 100 s flower 😢can you tell me why is it ? What did I do wrong I got 1 egg plant but no red tomatoes yet ! Well I live in Minneapolis so we start planting at the end of may 😢 I did have green onion and basils and lettuce . Thanks god. Please please let me know what is wrong with my cucumbers and zucchini 😢
This could be, they’re not getting pollinated and if they don’t get pollinated the flowers fall off. You have to see which ones are females and which ones are males and you can hand pollinate and you’ll get more fruit. ❤
It will be awhile longer before you get red tomatoes, especially if they are the large ones in your area as they need consistent night time temps of above 50 degrees. I got my cherry tomatoes in at the beginning of may and picked the 1st one only yesterday. That's probably because at the end of last month and earlier this month temps were below average and I am in an area where it is normally quite warm in the spring...almost summer like. When the flowers come, tap on them a little bit and that will make sure that they get pollinated. Your weather may also still be a little too cool for your tomatoes, eggplant, cucumbers and zucchini as these like tomatoes like warmer temps and make sure they are getting at least a few hours of Sun
Have you ever posted your pickled zuchinni recipe? I'm going to have a lot of zuchinni coming up here soon, I'd like to have some extra ways to use it!
Have you tried cubing that big squash and either air frying or roasting them? My family will not eat sweet potatoes any other way. I usually coat it with a Cajun spice mix, but I'm sure there are countless spices you can use.
Unless you get a galvanized, like you did, or build your own raised bed, all that is sold as such is a joke, imho. Of course you can buy the real fancy ones, that are actually high enough - if you got the money. .... I am keeping my eyes open for a utility sink, much to the dismay of my husband 😁
Hey Robbie! Thank you so much for sharing your garden wisdom. You’re the reason I’m a beginner tote gardener this year in the high desert of Las Vegas. I’m super excited about the compost tea. I’m curious…how often do you water with the compost tea please?
Simply beautiful Robbie!!! I bought everything you've suggested. Now all I have to do is add my labor. Is it to late to start seeds??? Please let me know Its july 17th, 2023
Would you please tell me what bows or arches are made from? I am 78 & back issues I LOVE the containers on a chair!! Brilliant idea !! I ordered some totes to be delivered by Walmart. I ordered all grey although I didn't really care about the color. They apparently ran out of grey and substituted an orange tote. They were originally 6.98 but the orange one they had to substitute they gave to me for $1.50. SCORE!!! 😊
In the spring, I put a bunch of plastic bottles and plastic bags all wadded up with rubber bands in the bottom to save on soil. My sprinklers haven't been working so I haven't been able to keep up on watering them.... Is my putting those things in the bottom bad? My mom used to use rocks BUT they are so expensive now! Thanks !
Nebraska 5B your a great motivational speaker. Can I move in with you and Gary. I need one on one instruction. My zucchini stopped producing and will need to try your not so secret formula.
Put totes where they get morning sun only , put on the side of the house or fence or under trees where it’s partially shaded or put up shade cloths as needed - Robbie’s got videos on how😊
I need some help ! I don't think I understand what you are putting in the bottom of the containers before you put the garden soil on top !??? Can you please tell me/us?!!
Look under flower pots where it’s moist, go to bait shops or can purchase them from earthworm farms & toss them in totes, fill with kitchen scraps, green ,yellow & brown leaves & dirt , water once a week - soon you will have tons of them as long as u start with 2 & give them good conditions to multiply 😊
This would not work that well at my place because any plater would have to have a frame cover to keep out the critters. Pinon Jays, Rock Squirrels, Prairie Dogs, Grasshopper mice, and Pack Rats.
Amazing job, gardening is all about surviving and thriving and you can't do that by throwing all your money at fancy gardening gear playing keeping up with the joneses.
Good Afternoon Robbie I hope you guys are doing well. I have a 2 bin set up like yours, I can testify that it is MUCH easier than growing things in the ground. 🪴 No bending over no back pain…just enjoyment of watching our plants 🪴 grow ❤
I love how u said it was a horse shoe shaped garden today .that’s what I called it the other day when I messaged u.easier to call it that.I’ll send u some photos of my chair garden if u send me a email.
Robbie, is there some way people could send you pictures of their projects & gardens so we can see on your site some good ideas we all can share with others? We read of descriptions but easier to see than read something 😊

❤ what can I plant in August is it too late
You do not talk to much😊😊
That use of irrigation line is a real inspiration!!!
The whole set up is inspiring. How creative and unique! Gardening is experimenting and learning as we go. I love it! Thanks for sharing!

Everything looks so lush! Love your suggestions, thanks Robbie. It's a little too warm here but the tomatoes seem to love it.
Have learned so much from the way you garden. I am in Florida and plant in totes too, use tulle from watching you ❤👏👏
Looking great happy gardening!! I love pickled vegetables can you show us how you make pickled zucchini sometime Ive never attempted it and my pickled cucumbers were a little too soft
Yes I’d like to know also
Robbie you are so much fun, for those of us who love gardening and plants…! WOW❤
Hello i would like to thank you this way of gardening has been awesome i followed your lead and so far its going great

Very nice garden! Everything looks excellent! Thanks for your time and help with all of this
I’d love if you share how you made your pickled zucchini as well as what other creative uses/recipes you have for zucchini & summer squash.
I am also interested in the pickled zucchini recipe. Thanks
Same here because I tried to pickle them this year and they didn't turn out great. I'll probably pitch the jars soon. Something about the texture didn't set right with me.

Been watching your gardens evolve for 3 years. I think this the best so far! Btw baby formula around me way expensive. Don’t know how families afford it.
I think Robbie said baby formula powder expires, so some store have to give it away.
Awesome garden and tips~👍
Thank you for sharing this video~🤗

I have downloaded some of your videos to show as an encouragement to a gardening group that I have begun hosting.
This is an excellent introduction to this type of gardening.
Local Dollar Tree put S1 pitchers in the gardening section.
Someone must have told them.
Would love a zucchini pickled recipe please 🙏
🤩🙏 your garden’s looking great & nice harvest! As always, thx for sharing w/ us.
Would be fun to learn your pickling process.
Love the Guineas 🥰
I have a white food grade buckets garden with cloth potato sacs..also grow in cardboard boxes..
Perfect 😊
Also tge boxes last 1 season and u can put the boxes into a compost pile after tearing a bit..
Raised bed is the best way. Thanks for sharing
I needed your enthusiasm :) I'm a bit down after coming from the garden that I had covered to keep pests out only to find little green worms happily chewing down my brocolli, Kale, and cauliflower....so frustrating. I need more totes... :) I love your chair garden.
Howdy, Robbie!👋 The Chair Garden is such a great ideal. Love your Chair Garden!👍💕
You have inspired me with your thriftiness! I talk about you to my mom she has two totes planted now and started composting in a trash can she liked the pitcher idea but she has these pots she is going to use.
Thank you Robbie for sharing and teaching...you are a jewel...❤
Wow your plants grew great ! Amazing
I am saving up to buy the tubing. It is a brilliant idea and easy to use. Thank you so much for the tips you share. I bought tulle and am using it already❤
Glad it was helpful! The tubing is wonderful, and remember, you can always get a smaller roll in the beginning to keep the cost down 😊❤️
Thank you 😊
wow you make me want to container garden and I ❤️ that homemade fertilizer tip 15 minutes in. thankyou
I got irrigation tubing last year and it works great.
I see what you mean about squash bugs, please disregard my prior question
You're wonderful! God Bless!
Robbie your garden looks beautiful, my cucumbers are about to start coming in i can't wait, today i brought some zucchini from a local farmer they were so good, I even cooked the skins.
I got my first pitcher set up in a tote yesterday.
Love ur clever ideas… thinking outside the box
🥰 you are awesome Robbie! Thank you for inspiring ❤🔥me to try to garden…I have never heard of Zuc as a meat substitute 😮 n pickled zucchini 😱 that sounds delicious! 🤗
You are so welcome 😊 and on Zucchini, that is why I love it so much, so many things you can do with it ❤️
I really like your tote arrangement. I never liked them lined up against the wall, but this u shaped plan is nice.
I had some compost water and put straight on the plant but didn’t dilute and it burnt the plant and it’s in shade too.very strong that compost tea .I love it more than seasol
S a great idea. I tried it 2 years ago. Glas i ran across this, so i can do it again
have you heard of Kugelkultur? you use logs and limbs to help fill those big raised beds. No need to spend big bucks for soil...

Have you ever posted your pickled zuchinni recipe? I'm going to have a lot of zuchinni coming up here soon, I'd like to have some extra ways to use it!
How do you keep the squash bugs away? Or do you not get them.
We do not have those here…..yet
The bugs got all of my yellow squash last year in Nashville 😢
Cover the entire tote with tulle clamped down tight with metallic clips from stationery store around the edges of the tote so nothing can crawl in😊
Have you tried cubing that big squash and either air frying or roasting them? My family will not eat sweet potatoes any other way. I usually coat it with a Cajun spice mix, but I'm sure there are countless spices you can use.
Unless you get a galvanized, like you did, or build your own raised bed, all that is sold as such is a joke, imho. Of course you can buy the real fancy ones, that are actually high enough - if you got the money. ....
I am keeping my eyes open for a utility sink, much to the dismay of my husband 😁
I just love your podcasts!! Thank you!! Blessings from Kentucky 🙌🏻🦋🙏🏻 😊have you share your pickling recipe?
Quick producing tomatoes etc. maybe you could make a video on the varieties you grow.
Hey Robbie! Thank you so much for sharing your garden wisdom. You’re the reason I’m a beginner tote gardener this year in the high desert of Las Vegas. I’m super excited about the compost tea. I’m curious…how often do you water with the compost tea please?
Thanks for sharing:)
So jealous of the garlic chives, mine decided they hate me and a whole new packet didn’t grow smh 😢
I am just trying my hand at container gardening, I had been taking care of my husband, a disabled Veteran. Really good ideas! I wonder if you can use the pitcher idea in a raised bed. May two instead of one?
Pls. show us how to pickele zucchini? I've learned sooooooo much from you, thx.
Hi!!!
Hi Valerie 😊
Would you be willing to share you pickle zucchini recipe and pickles?
What are the pitchers for? How do you use them? Thank you for the information.
Nebraska 5B your a great motivational speaker. Can I move in with you and Gary. I need one on one instruction. My zucchini stopped producing and will need to try your not so secret formula.
🥰🥰🥰
Oooh sounds like we need a pickled zucchini recy
Couldn't you feed the chickens the gourds?
Robbie-I wonder how the totes would work in a wet environment (Florida)? Any advice?
❤
How do earthworms get up to the toat on the chair? Also where do I poke the drainage holes?
I live in Texas with the real heat. Will these containers make the roots too hot?
I do not believe so, I think it’s worth a try. We get pretty hot here in the summer too, and they all do great
You can set up the irrigation tubing on the top as I do for shade, not for water, and that works too
Put totes where they get morning sun only , put on the side of the house or fence or under trees where it’s partially shaded or put up shade cloths as needed - Robbie’s got videos on how😊
Did you put drainage holes in the bottom of each of those totes ? I'm amazed those plastic chairs hold the weight of those tubs.
Plastic chairs hold 200 lb people sitting in them so it will hold totes filled with dirt no problem!😊
Did you make holes in the bottom of the bins?
Do you dilute your compost tea ?
I need some help ! I don't think I understand what you are putting in the bottom of the containers before you put the garden soil on top !??? Can you please tell me/us?!!
She’s got a ton of videos showing how😊
How can you get worm up there? Manually get some?
Look under flower pots where it’s moist, go to bait shops or can purchase them from earthworm farms & toss them in totes, fill with kitchen scraps, green ,yellow & brown leaves & dirt , water once a week - soon you will have tons of them as long as u start with 2 & give them good conditions to multiply 😊
I bought clear totes last year and they are breaking into pieces this year. Nothing grew much in them. It was a bust 🥴
Clear breakdown much faster than the opaque ones like she uses
This would not work that well at my place because any plater would have to have a frame cover to keep out the critters. Pinon Jays, Rock Squirrels, Prairie Dogs, Grasshopper mice, and Pack Rats.
Use tulle clamped down the edges with metallic clips from stationery store 😊
Amazing job, gardening is all about surviving and thriving and you can't do that by throwing all your money at fancy gardening gear playing keeping up with the joneses.
Where are you getting chairs for only $10??? I am looking in the wrong places, I see them for $25 and up.
😘🤩😍🥰😇
