    Because of strong and constant winds blowing in Oklahoma, chairs won't work, so I sat my totes on a cement block with another block on each side. And I make my horseshoe shaped tote beds that way. 2 totes sharing 1/2 side of each cinder block. I'm single and cook enough to eat within 2-3 days so don't have food leftovers. I use my mowed grass clippings, coffee grounds, and crushed egg shells to put down into my pitchers and other mini compost containers. My totes garden is doing fantastic! 68 double planted and 15-5 gal buckets. Thanks a million, Robbie and Gary, for all your amazing videos. True gardening pioneers!

    The pride you have in your garden is contagious. My seizures are holding me back a bit with the large plans I had for this season's garden, but I'm taking things slower because I want to enjoy nature and whatever bounty it bestows me. My Monarda were blooming today with feather-like hot pink flowers. Made my day as did the father Robin who has taken residence in my garden. He sings for the world to take notice. Hugs, ~ Covah

    Robbie, I love your chair garden, rainbow garden,,,,all of the gardens 🤗 Re planting what you like, I would say even if you think you don’t like something, try growing it anyway at first. Home grown taste and texture is NO comparison to store bought. If you don’t like it, turn it into compost. No loss there.

    That was a very good video. I’m lifelong Gardener older now. Looking for ways to make it easier so I can keep guarding. I think I’m gonna try your tope method. My friend next-door and I were just discussing we were going to go to raised beds next year, because the fight of the weeds in us getting older and our backs think you have the answer. I’m gonna give it a try. Thank you for the video.

    You thought out of the box and made this work beautifully. I am kicking myself for purchasing two raised beds that will take so much work to fill. I wish I had found you last year. Thank you so much!

    • @dianeNoneYa1157
      @dianeNoneYa1157 2 місяці тому

      You can fill raised bed in the same way. If you have or know of anyone that has down trees or trimmed branches...use the logs and branches. Cardboard layer flat on very bottom, then tree logs/branches, then grass clippings, water each layer and repeat if you need to. Paper shredded or just layed flat and then your kitchen scraps. Water again.Of course, the last layer is dirt, but it doesn't have to be a thick layer or an expensive layer. In the fall, once everything is harvested, start with the cardboard and repeat the layers. Then it's ready in the spring 😊

    This is my 2nd year with a small chair garden thanks to you! My walkway to my shed is along my raised back deck so I made a trellis going up from pots(tote sized) over making a roof connecting to the top railing of my back deck. I recycled wood, branches-whatever I had. I guess its like half an arbor. I love it! Its unique!

    And whatever size bed folks are working with - you can start the same way with leaves, kitchen scraps, small branches ... we had a brush pile with dry, year old blackberry trimmings - made a great base in my larger raised bed!

    Hi Robbie, even though I have gardened off and on most of my life...well, there is still so so so much to learn. Since i got my totes from a friend that had used them for his Craft Shows he did and well, they got used alot and so they just made it for two years in my climate (New York State) and now I have too dig the soil out of the four that have actually cracked and you can't pick them up, so I need to dig out the soil and get new totes and fill them. Thank God I had a few that made it still and decided to use smaller containers to start my vegys this year. But, with the work that I have to do, and getting at least four more totes, well, the rest of my garden will be very late, hoping I actually get to do it and have a good harvest dispite the delay. Wish me well, OK? God Bless, Sherry :)

    I love your videos and I have to say thank you for all the wonderful and inexpensive ideas for gardening. You come up with the greatest stuff. I watched that first video on setting up your chair garden a few years ago, and I have been hooked ever since. I bought a house a few years ago and this house was sold as is. This worked out great for me because it came with garden tools and a large supply of those white plastic patio chairs and totes. I was trying to figure out how I could build a raised bed on the cheap and there you came with the answer. Several years later my totes are going strong with 5 gal buckets underneath filled with soil and catching the run off from the totes. I love my own chair garden and now I’m using the irrigation tubing for all kings of things. I’m retired now so my income is limited but I’ve got a chair garden and tulle and irrigation tubing. My only problem is what can I do next 😂😂

      This could be, they’re not getting pollinated and if they don’t get pollinated the flowers fall off. You have to see which ones are females and which ones are males and you can hand pollinate and you’ll get more fruit. ❤

    • @msfullroller
      @msfullroller Рік тому

      It will be awhile longer before you get red tomatoes, especially if they are the large ones in your area as they need consistent night time temps of above 50 degrees. I got my cherry tomatoes in at the beginning of may and picked the 1st one only yesterday. That's probably because at the end of last month and earlier this month temps were below average and I am in an area where it is normally quite warm in the spring...almost summer like.
      When the flowers come, tap on them a little bit and that will make sure that they get pollinated. Your weather may also still be a little too cool for your tomatoes, eggplant, cucumbers and zucchini as these like tomatoes like warmer temps and make sure they are getting at least a few hours of Sun

      Look under flower pots where it’s moist, go to bait shops or can purchase them from earthworm farms & toss them in totes, fill with kitchen scraps, green ,yellow & brown leaves & dirt , water once a week - soon you will have tons of them as long as u start with 2 & give them good conditions to multiply 😊

    I bought clear totes last year and they are breaking into pieces this year. Nothing grew much in them. It was a bust 🥴

    This would not work that well at my place because any plater would have to have a frame cover to keep out the critters. Pinon Jays, Rock Squirrels, Prairie Dogs, Grasshopper mice, and Pack Rats.

    Amazing job, gardening is all about surviving and thriving and you can't do that by throwing all your money at fancy gardening gear playing keeping up with the joneses.

    Good Afternoon Robbie I hope you guys are doing well. I have a 2 bin set up like yours, I can testify that it is MUCH easier than growing things in the ground. 🪴 No bending over no back pain…just enjoyment of watching our plants 🪴 grow ❤

      Robbie, is there some way people could send you pictures of their projects & gardens so we can see on your site some good ideas we all can share with others? We read of descriptions but easier to see than read something 😊
