I'm really impressed with the results, Doug! At first I thought those things were going to disappear but they turned out in such a nice, ghostly way. Sorry about the bubbles, but this was one of the best things I've seen this month. Well done.
It turned out very well, Doug. I'd be willing to bet that all of those air bubbles came out of the yarn, although I could be wrong. Thanks for the video, and have a Happy Halloween.
Just a suggestion if you do something like this again, soak the yarn in cactus juice, squeeze out the excess then block the pieces into shape before curing. If your Wife has ever done any starching she could help with the blocking. Not only will it help them keep their shape in the resin and hep prevent bubbles, but cactus juice glows under a black light.
The glow bowl awesome Doug. I’m a crocheter n Knitter so I appreciate the combination project . Hope you have a Happy Halloween. .👻 Hope all is well, take care.
Happy Spooky Halloween!! I loved this project, wven with the bubbles. You cant have perfect outcome every time! I loved that the skulls were glowing!!! Thanks Doug!
Doug... you're adorable! First the green "slime" drops and then the evil laugh after saying Chatoyance 🤭😁🤣 Fabulousness! Oh... the fly buzzed my ear through my earbuds!
Very cool Halloween bowl Doug. And a great job on the skulls Dawn. Bummer about the air bubbles. Either way it turned out great 👍. Happy Halloween 🎃 👻.
Looks really cool! When I first saw those skulls, the first thing I thought was "Those are cute." Then I thought "How are skulls supposed to be cute!?"
awesome work Doug :) it was reminding me of a vinyl record on the lathe :) dawns skulls look great :) I have a suggestion.... with the yarn if your going to use it again in resin i suggest you seal it some how before you do the big pour, either with varnish, uv resin painted on and activated or popping them in a small amount of resin and putting in the vacuum chamber to get the air out, the first time i used yarn and resin together i tried to make a bowl blank for my partner to turn into a yarn bowl for me and i ended up with a huge amount of bubbles :) your beanie looks great :)
Thank you Thank you Thea, I didn't have a chamber large enough to put the whole bowl in at that point, I will try to seal anything like this first the next time
It turned out great. I really like the design l maybe glow in the dark plastic skulls would help eliminate the bubbles. Though they do add mystery to the look. Happy Halloween
You are amazing! That looks so awesome! It turned out great! The skulls 💀 kind of look spooky and they also look super cool with the green resin floating around! Great job! Bravo!
You always have very clever ideas and your pieces turn out cool even if they don't work out exactly the way you want them to. In this case, the bubbles are actually kind of neat for the theme of the bowl. Could the yarn in the crochet pieces have contributed to some of the bubble formation since yarn is also an organic material that might contain a certain amount of moisture from the air?
Hi Doug I enjoyed your video I love them all and I love how you don't get to upset lol when things don't go well....but on a more serious note...I'm worried about you cause you haven't posted anything i hope everything is okay with you and your family
Another great project. The bubbles are odd given you had flashed the resin with a flame tourch. The only conclusion I could come up with is that the wool was full or air which leached out during the curing period. Keep up the good work!
It is very cool, and most likely the yarn held air causing the bubbles. The skulls were probably crocheted with acrylic yarn. As a crocheter, I use acrylic yarns all the time. Maybe should try this with my turning too. Got some resin lol. Maybe if you soaked them in resin then put them in the vacuum chamber then added them on the rim they wouldn't have made that many bubbles. Who knows. I love it though, you're so creative Doug.
It is an acrylic yarn the Premier brand Just Yarn Worsted. I wonder what would happen with a cotton yarn? Thank you so much for commenting and watching 💀🖤🤍
Nice lady that DawnYarnDoll to sent you good stuff. Your videos are always so nice to watch Doug. Only one problem with it; they always end sometimes. 😉 Your work is stunning as always. Thank you for sharing, my friend. 👍👍👍
Sorry about that, and thanks again for watching, I should probably make a play list including all of my videos, then it wouldn't end for a couple days or so
it will fill the voids but I am not sure on the tensile strength for it to sand and or polish easily, for a top coat it works great, Thanks again for watching Daniel
You once again snatched Victory from the Jaws of Defeat! This is an example of why people shouldn’t get too easily discouraged when they are met with adversity!❤😊
Because of how it's woven, I believe all the bubbles came out of the yarn... Perhaps if you ever do something like this again, I suggest pouring that first layer of clear and letting it set up a little before adding the yarn skulls (or whatever they are in that project) but first saturating the yarn decorations in a small pot of clear resin and degassing them in the vacuum pot, THEN laying them flat on the gelled first layer and letting that set before continuing with the colour layers... That should give you some carving space to shape the outer layer with little risk of hitting the yarn and should also significantly reduce the bubbles in the final product... Good Luck...
I thought it came out pretty good. I now have a project for my daughter to crochet for me. She and her partner are right into Halloween so will make a good gift for them for next year. Thanks for sharing . It is always enjoyable watching your vids.
Man oh man Doug, you're a man after my gothic heart! Neon green and black are my absolute favorite colors!🖤💚☠️ I really kinda want that bowl! Is it for sale?

Thank you Jay, I wasn't impressed at all ! lol
It turned out very well, Doug. I'd be willing to bet that all of those air bubbles came out of the yarn, although I could be wrong. Thanks for the video, and have a Happy Halloween.

Shame about the bubbles, very cool piece though! I think that's the first time you had colored resin _behind_ the logo, and it looks absolutely great!
💀🖤🤍
Thank you Thank you, I was trying to match the rest of the bowl with the black behind the logo
That's awesome! I know it's not as perfect as you would like. But, it's cool! Love how it glows in the dark.

👍
Very cool project Doug I like it a lot
I agree Doug did an amazing piece 💀🖤🤍
Nice Work!! That’s Awesome!!👍
💀🖤🤍
Thank you Charity
YArn is full of air! Maybe next time treat it as of it were really punky wood and hit it with stabilizing resin before embedding it?
You could've left the tenon on the bottom of the bowl to mate into about an 8" diameter base for added stability...
💀🖤🤍
I suppose I could have Thomas, Thanks again for watching

@DawnYarnDoll they turned out fabulous. Have you ever done the lost souls shawl? It's a really co pattern and easy, I think only a 4 or 5 row repeat.
Thank you Jane, yeah Dawn told me it was acrylic,
I like the bubbles makes it look like there floating in the galaxy.
I do too! Happy Halloween 💀🖤🤍

Have a question for you, I just purchased some total boat table top epoxy, will this work for bowls? With medium sized voids
it will fill the voids but I am not sure on the tensile strength for it to sand and or polish easily, for a top coat it works great, Thanks again for watching Daniel
Came out really cool looking.
