@@qnonymou5 Want pieces on the board for chances at counterplay. Maybe you can attack the opponent’s king, which is hard to do with no pieces. Also, simplifying (trading pieces) makes things more clear for the winning side some of the time. A winning king and pawn against lone king endgame is easy enough to win. With a rook on each side, the winning method becomes a little bit more difficult. Of course, this is pogchamps, so you still don’t want to trade pieces to create maximum chaos. The opponent can’t blunder a piece if you don’t give them the opportunity
@@qnonymou5 yes, that’s the entire point of king and pawn endgames, king and queen vs lone king is too trivial already also the side that’s down a queen for minimal compensation should avoid trading anyway. at the level where players do not instantly resign after that major blunder, just leave more pieces so the winning side can have more chances of placing the queen on an unsafe square, or otherwise win by checkmating
That was a sick game 1 by Wirtual. Other than missing the difficult to spot bishop capture that opened up by the self king pin, the play was pretty solid
If you disregard the like 30 suboptimal turns then you are absolutely right ^^ I think he played pretty well for someone who hasnt played chess all that long, but calling the game sick is a bit of an overstatement

Not sure you saw this after, but at 4:03 you can play 23...R8xc3 (taking his bishop with the rook you have on c8), and he cannot take back with the pawn since it is pinned to the king. Playing 23...R2xc3 (taking with the rook you have on c2) would not work since that rook would no longer be pinning the pawn to his king.
The first game was reasonable - for a 600 or maybe 700 rated player, and the second game was maybe a tiny bit better, but for his accounts' ratings, it isn't great. He did spot a few things that most 700's would miss, but he also missed things that 600's would see. He isn't very consistent, but I think with enough training he can get far.

@@DomenG33KI don’t know how many games he has played but he definitely in the first game did not play 1000+ as a 1000 who doesn’t really know openings (I only learnt the basics and basic openings) his play isn’t that high he may sound better but he is just saying his thoughts in a different way then normal for me at least and he used a lot of time calculating
@@icecream5125 You overvalue your play by a large factor. Watch any high ranked player play in your elo and you will notice that 1200 lets say make massive blunders all over the place. And im not talking about pawn chains, or knigh mobility, but full blown out 1 move and 2 move blunders. He made only a few blunders and they were minor compared to alot of 1000+ rated players. He has very good intuition and decent speed for a complete begineer. Many many people (some i know personally) have tried playing hard and learning hard for months and Wirtual would still beat them 8/10 times from just natural skill... But of course he is still just a beginner and has tons to learn and makes tons of mistakes... Cheers!

Rgf2, Rg1 for white, Rf8f3, if Rg3 from black to block the check, he can Kxe3 which leads to mate by bring King to f4 after and rook exchange without a trade option for white. If Kg4 to run away from the check, then Rxe3, then Rg3 for white, then it's winning position for black easily.
Crazy tactic at 12:50 with Bxd5 cxd5 Nxd5 if Qd8 to protect the fork on c7 then Nf6 to check the king while also attacking the queen. If Qe5 to protect the fork then f4. Correct if I'm wrong but I think this works.

If Nf6+, Qxf6. Also, what if they play Qd6 to protect fork? Overall, I think taking the pawn with knight first is better, as you get a strong bishop in the center, and your pieces become a lot more active and useful for only losing 1 point of material. I'm not sure if it's the best move, but it's quite a good move in that position.
Pawn to H5 here 05:52 would've been so good man. If king G3 you go Rook F3 checkmate. If king H3 you go rook F3 again checkmate. But all things considered well played Wirty-chan, Buckley and Elensar. Fun games to watch :D
dang, wirtual is actually signficantly less clueless at chess than a lot of the pogchamps participants i've seen in the past. he might genuinely have a chance at doing decently in the tournament!
When white played pawn a4 instead he could play rook g4 pinning the rook to the king which forces a rook trade, then if you try to stop the a+b pawns he takes all your pawns and wins

Nice Games. You have some understanding. With some practice you could be quite good. But dont forget to analyse nearly every game. Also if you don't know an opening just play safe. Dont blunder pieces or pawns. Even at 2000+ elo you dont need to know openings, but it would help.
I'm at 2167 rn, and from experience, I feel it's quite useful to study at least one opening you can play against anyone at around 1600 elo. One that I would recommend to most people is the Modern Defense as black, and for white, if you know like 8-10 moves of Spanish Game/Ruy Lopez opening, it helps a lot.
@@albedo2433 I am moving around 2000 and I'm doing just fine without ever studying an opening. I learned a lot about openings via analysing my games but never studied them explicitly. (Also i usually loose because some dumb blunders in the middle game)

As a chess player, I can tell that Wirtual is going to get destroyed if he plays against randoms at his blitz level. Not that he's bad at chess. Probably at least top 40%. But still. The 900 rated blitz players would destroy him.
Nah if he played like this even in rapid he would get destroyed my guess is he created a new account set it high and was losing so he lost a lot of elo but he had to do this so his true rank wasn’t seen
