Love these in-depth string videos. It's an often overlooked part of the 'chemistry' of guitar tone. I like 9-42 gauge roundwounds on my rickenbacker 330/12 - but i'm going after the 80s new wave ric 12 string tone rather than the 60s thing, and lighter gauge roundwounds are much more complimentary to the hi-gain pickups in that respect. I use elixir nanowebs, because if i don't use coated strings, they go dull within only a couple of hours of play due to my asbestos-fingers, and I don't want to have to change the strings on that guitar too often...
Been a long time since I had a twelve string, last one was my '66 330 which had a nightmare of a neck re-set.😱 Btw, have you seen Andy's video about George's Futurama?
thank you so much Paul!!!, please continue with this research and videos please, you're the beatle string expert haha, on GTE you need to be named and refer like this
I bought a Danelectro 12 string on Thomann a few years ago, which I love, and I bought a set of Pyramid flatwounds to put on it as soon as I'd receive it, because I had read that Pyramid flats were the right strings for proper 1960s electric 12 string tone. They were (incorrectly it seems) referred to as the strings that Rick 12's came with from factory, and I believed that claim. Those strings are still on it at present, they literally last forever! Now I found out in your video that Thomastiks are closer to Rick factory strings, I am curious to get a set and swap them out! Lighter gauge on the bass strings as well, so I guess the action and tension will be better and less stressful on the neck perhaps?
Thomastiks are fantastic on Dano 12s. I used Pyramids for a while when I could not find the Thomastik sets but really did not care for them in comparison. Just get a set and you will see...
Impressive research! Thanks for making these pretty nerdy vids for us Ric-dudes. Must admit I’ve grown too tired in my hands to have the 10s sets on my 330/12. I now construct my own 09-42 set by butchering some Fender 09 sets to build a lighter 12 set. (Have tried 08-sets but that felt like playing a banjo..😂)
Surely with a bit of reverse metallurgical engineering it would be possible to determine what the Maxima “formula” was? Material grades, geometries and surface finish would be easy, winding tension maybe a bit more challenging.

二人ともリッケン似合うな〜、何でこんなにかっこいいのだろう。

9:44 The Old Rickenbacker craves Daddario NYXL Heavy strings .13-.72
I never saw a bass in this video.
Good video Paul. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I use Rotosound Double Six 10 on my Rickenbacker 360/12C63. Sounds good to me.
Cheers! 🎶🎸
Thank you!!!
The Rotosounds double 6 is a great set! 👍

as the great Marty McFly once said "Hey, hey I've seen this one!" but seriously it's a good video
It’s all revamped with tons of new stuff that wasn’t in the last one!

I would imagine so too, but finding a company to recreate it would be the impossible part.
So... WHEN did they Start using RoundWound, please?
Thanks!

No, no, no! History has to be revised! ALL guitars back then came with 017 to 094 strings with an 046 wound G! For TONE!!!
