I buy Acorn squash all the time. I just split them in half, scoop out seeds, add some butter and cinnamon and a bit of brown sugar, bake for about 40 minutes and they come out delicious everytime. No need to peel either.
Hi Brenda and David. It would be easier to cut your squash in half like you did and, of course take out the seeds. Put olive oil on your baking sheet or use parchment paper. Some people use tin foil. Line your sheet. Place the squash halfs on the baking sheet skin side down. Rub olive oil or butter on the inside of the squash. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Some people sprinkle a bit of brown sugar in it. Bake at 350 till done. You know it is done when your fork can go through easily. Let cool then scrape out the inside. Discard the peel. Then make your recipe. No need to peel raw squash.❤
I simply pierce the squash and microwave for 4-5 mins to soften then easy to cut. Or cut in half ..seeds out and bake in oven w butter and some honey/ brown sugar. Love squash
Use them often, I poke holes around with a fork and microwave for 10 mins then cut and scoop out seeds . Then just scoop the meat of the skins. Saves a lot of cutting and peeling. I love the idea of adding pecans thank you Brenda and David . Much love and good wishes from Toronto Canada 🇨🇦💕
I love acorn squash! I cut it in half, put butter, salt and pepper on them and bake them in the oven, cut side up, until you can stick a fork in it and it’s tender. Delicious! Have David cut them.😊
I make the squash and it is delicious. Cut in half like you did clean seeds out I fill inside with butter and brown sugar and bake it.delicious. Banana bread takes 3 banana. Have a Blessed day
Cut the acorn squash in half, scoop out the seeds, you can use olive oil inside and place cut side down in baking dish, cook at 350 until fork tender, you can add meat , or do sweet with brown sugar , cinnamon or savory with spices and cheese. Thanks for the video
They have a frozen 12 oz. bag at Walmart. I gave some in my freezer right now. May I make a suggestion? You may want to try acorn or butternut squash with onion powder, garlic powder, rosemary -fresh sprigs, and sage. Roasted in the oven with a drizzle of olive oil or avocado oil.
Brenda and David. Glad you put up another Cooking video.. it was different but unless you tried it you wouldn’t know if you liked it. Try cutting the Acorn squash in half remove the seeds and put hamburger meat seasoned like you want then stuff the hole and bake at 350 degrees for an hour or until the squash is tender… it’s delicious Y’all are so cute I get tickled listening to you.. David, you should see a doctor you sounded like you didn’t feel well. Take care of each other
David and Brenda you two are so cute together and seem to have such a close relationship 💗 Love your cooking an you always make us laugh the way you banter back an forth 😂 whats kitty hollering for i wonder 😽 if shes always hungry like u say she may have worms id get her checked by your vet
Hi Brenda & David, my Mother use to cook all kind of Squash or bake them some of the times she put brown sugar & butter. I enjoy your cooking and your chatting ! God bless you all & your family P.S is Sadie coming back soon she loves to pick on David they both do God bless
Hello from KY love you and your channel and your family ❤️.Tell Sadie hello. Not a big fan of that squash.Love zucchini and yellow squash fried or in casseroles.Miss your replies.Pray every night for you guys.❤❤
I'd use butter and brown sugar (instead of maple syrup) and sprinkle with a little cinnamon or nutmeg. I like the idea of just cutting in half and roasting with the skin on--it's too much work to peel them. You could just add nuts to half if you don't like them.
go ahead with it.. there is some very good recipes in the comments. I would pick one of these. it would be better. the one above your comment. on here I see where all of them are the same.
My grandmother made something similar, but she used butternut squash. She cut up the squash, and covered it with brown sugar, added a little half & half or milk, and pats of butter on top of the brown sugar. Cover and bake. I still make it that way. I truly love your videos and can barely wait for the next one. Brenda listening to you and David scrapping back and forth and the stories you both tell of your childhood are so wonderful to listen to. I can relate to those times. I hope you never stop making videos. You often make my day.
I love different squash’s. I know I’d love this one. Like Brenda, I wouldn’t want the nuts in it. So for myself, just the Maple syrup and butter. 1/2 of the syrup though. I think. Have you ever tried spaghetti squash? I loved the stories you shared! You two are such a sweet couple!
Hey Brenda I was watching your video on crack chicken and you were talking about the medicine you take I understand what you mean I have diabetes and have to take medicine to keep from having my limbs cut off. We do what we have to so we can keep our life as normal as possible. Love your show
When we were kids we would take a Sunday drive we live in Alabama we would drive to Mississippi mama and daddy would stod at KFC get a bucket of chicken and rolls, there was picnic tables along the road in certain places we would pull off the road sit at the table and have lunch, that is a fond memory loved them days.
Watch out Brenda with that knife....don't want you to cut yourself... I've never ate ACORNS squash before. But, you did good on it enjoy eating David have some for lunch tomorrow . .
I woulda taken the Reynolds' Wrap off to thicken the syrup, and would have put way more butter and nuts! 🙂It looks good, tho'. You are right, Brenda, acorn squash are real hard to cut!!!
Those squash are great bakes just cut in half and baked with brown sugar and butter in them . They go well with baked potatoes and baked chicken thighs with BBQ sauce.
I cook the acorn squash in half and cook it with butter and a bit of brown sugar. I am not a fan of squash but I like it this way! Can you please say a prayer for my 95 year old father, he’s quite I’ll. Thanks guys!❤️🙏🇨🇦
I have never cooked these squash but I would try them. Like you I don’t use nuts. My daughter was about 2 when we gave her boiled peanuts and discovered she is highly allergic to nuts or anything with any kind of nuts in it so I lost my taste for nuts since I couldn’t have them around her. I love your new easyspirits and love watching you cook and listening to you and David. Dot Phoneix Arizona
I think all us old timers have a Tupperware strainer like yours. I’ve had mine for 30 years and I got mine from my mother in law. Not sure how long she had it.
I love any type of squash. I don’t know why David couldn’t of just looked at that banana bread recipe and how much banana you needed wow come on David 😊
You gave it a try, now you know you don't care for it. It did sound good. That's how you find things you like and things are not always winners. At least you gave it a try. Have an extra pork chop. lol Stay well and safe.
You both are a hoot, keep the videos coming!!! Next time don’t put the foil on, and the juice will thicken, or mash those up and turn it into a pie - like a pumpkin pie and drain the juice. Ms Brenda - may I have you mailing P.O Box please. Much ❤ from Louisiana
Brenda, Cut that up in cubes and simmer in a big pot (preferably yours with 7 layers. Not David's 🤣) Cover with cracklings, add butter, salt and pepper. You will not be sorry. Also for other recipes it's easier to peel if you bake it first. Love the videos
I cut them in half. Bake in the oven at 350 leave the skin on for 1-hour until fork tender. After its fork tender put butter in the inside and sprinkle with brown sugar and chopped pecans. Put it back in the oven and bake for 15 mins. Serve its really good
I had carpal tunnel surgery 20+ yrs ago & they didn't put me out either. They injected me with the anesthesia but missed the vein, so it didn't work the way it was supposed to. It was such a miserable surgery. It felt like they cut the circulation off in my arm and my arm was ice cold & hurt like crazy. I got so sick on the way home I thought I was dying.
It's easier to just cut in half. Scoop out seeds, fill middle with a Chunk of butter and 2 or 3 Tablespoons of brown sugar and bake 375 for like 45 minutes. Scoop flesh out of the shell of the squash. And yes, deer love squash...they love pumpkin as well...which they are a similar food!!!
Brenda you cut the skin off and you can bake to soft and put in the blender and make a squash pie make it just like a pumpkin or make it like a vanilla my mother-in-law use to do that and boy it was good and you can make quash soup my sister does that
I like my acorn squash cut into 4 pieces skin on just seeds removed and blushed with extra virgern olive oil garlic powder salt and pepper baked for about an hour 375 covered

Pre-baking or par baking the squash or pumpkin in the oven or microwave makes it easier to cook.
@@DAS769you think your comment was 😂 no it was stupid and rude actually

Hi Brenda and David i like your videos your kitty Nipper sounds so sweet where in West Virginia did you live Im from West Virginia
Did i understand you to say that you lived in the coal minnjng town of Rhodell, WV at one time.
Brenda,
Cut that up in cubes and simmer in a big pot (preferably yours with 7 layers. Not David's 🤣)
Cover with cracklings, add butter, salt and pepper.
You will not be sorry.
Also for other recipes it's easier to peel if you bake it first.
Love the videos
You can put it in the microwave a few minutes to make it easier toi peel.
Cook uncovered to bake off some of the syrup
Cut in small pieces on baking sheet. Put butter and brown sugar and put in oven
Yes 👍
Yes prices are high worldwide. Actually America is the cheapest. We are lucky.
Blessed 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Brenda what area of Greensboro did you live in? You have always seemed familiar to me.
I cut them in half. Bake in the oven at 350 leave the skin on for 1-hour until fork tender. After its fork tender put butter in the inside and sprinkle with brown sugar and chopped pecans. Put it back in the oven and bake for 15 mins. Serve its really good
I haven't ever seen a squash skinned and cut up like this. Cut in half, remove seeds, add butter, salt, pepper little brown sugar. Bake.
I had carpal tunnel surgery 20+ yrs ago & they didn't put me out either. They injected me with the anesthesia but missed the vein, so it didn't work the way it was supposed to. Just because it's David's mom's recipe Brenda's going to make it difficult. She is such an undercover bully.
Can you believe she took it out to put salt on it.😂😂😂
I do not like acron squash glad to see yall glad yall are real yall
It's easier to just cut in half. Scoop out seeds, fill middle with a Chunk of butter and 2 or 3 Tablespoons of brown sugar and bake 375 for like 45 minutes. Scoop flesh out of the shell of the squash. And yes, deer love squash...they love pumpkin as well...which they are a similar food!!!
I wash my squash poke some holes in it wrap in foil and bake it whole in the oven on a cookie sheet. I don't have to struggle cutting a raw squash.
Brenda,
FYI , you are going to make the vegetarians upset 😂.
Brenda you cut the skin off and you can bake to soft and put in the blender and make a squash pie make it just like a pumpkin or make it like a vanilla my mother-in-law use to do that and boy it was good and you can make quash soup my sister does that
There is a lot of water in the squash. That’s why it’s so juicy
You might remove the tin foil for the last 15 minutes, to get some of the moisture off! Any hoo it still looks great!
If extra liquid mash it together to make a more smooth creamy. Add cream for a soup
I like my acorn squash cut into 4 pieces skin on just seeds removed and blushed with extra virgern olive oil garlic powder salt and pepper baked for about an hour 375 covered
My grandparents ate raw hamburger sandwiches with a thick slice of onion, they were German.
I love German Inginuity.
I have two Aunt's from Bremerhaven.
They are immaculate housekeepers.
I also love the German Polka music 🎶 .
Brenda voice goes Straight through ya Head.
Mash it up, like butternut, I use brown sugar. Bake it whole
This is a good dinner. Baked Squash, corn and pork chops - this is nutritious and balanced. Thank you!
If you use salted butter then no need to sprinkle with salt.
I grew up in Greensboro.
Hi..brenda.and.daivd
Salt draws moisture out of vegetables and fruits. I wouldn’t add any salt if you don’t want more liquid.
I stuff acorn squash with sausage and rice and bake
Brenda one reason you had so much liquid is that the squash as it cooks adds liquid.
Water comes from squash. Bake it uncovered!
Actually, water comes from the aquifer.😂
Cut in half and put face down on a pan with a little water and bake for 45 min and that softens them then make your recipe
It’s easier to half them then put in microwave then you can cut it out
It's not Appalachian cooking if you use a microwave 😂
Bake in oven after cutting in half then scoop them out
👀😂😂😂👍
It had the foil on and that caused steam and liquid ,it would thicken without foil.
Put them in the microwave for a few minjtes. Softens the squash
