Just a tip when float flying. A fishing pole with a tennis ball on the line. Cast out past plane and get lime mear the plane.just reel it in.Next is a rescue boat.Never swim for a downed aircraft
3:15 Idea for that situation: a multirotor with a winch with a small grappling hook (you can get it in a hunting and fishing shop), hook the plane and tow it back to the shore. Or just an RC boat... ¡With an operative crane!
They made a small article on it: www.flitetest.com/articles/beginner-s-guide-to-drones Though I understand it's not as indepth as their aircraft ones... I got their Gremlin quadcopter set and have been really enjoying it though! They also recommend for RTF the Emax babyhawk (same parts as gremlin but prefabricated)
You're the one hurling insults at some guy asking for help "...a quad is just some sticks fitted with propellers, tied to a gyroscope" No, actually its not. Its pretty obvious you have never built one if you think its just tying motors to a 'gyroscope'
First rule of RC boats (or float planes)... always have a fishing rod in the car rigged with a sinker tied on the line. When you inevitability strand your RC out of reach you simply cast past and over the boat/plane and the line/sinker will catch on the it as you reel it in... towing it back to you.
Is it possible to take quad copter motors put them on a plane and then use differential thrust and if so a video explaining how to do it would be awesome
Just finished building these great floats / pontoons form the speed build kit, to use with the simple cub, maybe later with the simple scout (which I haven't built yet). Was a pretty fast build and I can't wait to paint them and get this Bird on the Lake or even on the snow. But right now there is only thick fog...
Sig sells the "Herr Mini-Float" set as well, very light weight and good for planes from about 32" to 50" span, it'd be a good way to break into building with balsa, and the kit is only $22
FliteTest, So when Andres flipped his plane, as long as the ESC didn't dip in and get wet, is his plane ok? Just let it dry off a little to make sure and good to go? I Remember Peter did an Electronics water proofing vid a while back. Would you recommend doing all of that before you fly with floats, or you're probably ok without?
Hey guys, So... what we found out was that... the control surfaces worked while in the water etc... BUT when we got back to the shop we plugged it in and hit the throttle... BOOM Magic smoke lol So, essentially we puffed the esc... so.. everything else was grand...except we did not let it dry out! ha OOPS!
Hello there! Thank you so much for what you guys are doing! Does these floats work with the ft Tutor? Stephan is my favorite member! God Bess Everyone!
RULE ONE!!!!!: Bring recovery gear for the plane or boat BEFORE you get to the pond! A fishing pole with a tennis ball, or even a light line with one (use it like a bolo), a boat with a hook, or a motor for the plane, a boat hook, or extendable pole, something like that. THE LAST THING YOU WANT TO DO IS SWIM FOR A BOAT OR PLANE WE LOSE ONE OR TWO PEOPLE IN THE HOBBY EVERY SPRING DUE TO SWIMMING OR TRYING TO WADE FOR CRAFT IN COLD (OR FAST FLOWING) WATER!!!!
Big stuff! ive built a 200% spitfire and in the process of replacing it with a 200% mustang. also building a 175% duster to replace my parkzone sport cub. planning to put the duster on a pair of half A balsa floats i built last year.
When I saw the landing that went into the beach it reminded me of the time I landed my Tidewater towards the sand at the lake and it skidded 5 feet onto land. Good times.😂😂
Love the floats. It seems to be a bit sketchy but I bet you get used to it very quickly. How is the difference between flying with and without floats? Do you recognize it's effects?
If you Guys READ these... No Floats (I'm in Arizona!), but I've made more than one successful Mod to the Simple Cub. Great Plane, HORRIBLE at Landing!! 😳 I simply moved the Landing Gear forward about an inch, with a slight forward rake... Landing is almost as smooth as the Scout!! Carmine ✈🚂🚙
I built one of these and was very disappointed with the flight characteristics and ended up flying it twice and giving up on it. It flew way to fast, and you had to keep it above half throttle or it would stall. On landings it would come in like a jet and was very hard to control not floaty like other Cubs that I have owned. I will try to build a scout next.
This is definitely the first episode that I personally have taken a larger roll in... it was a LOT of fun with Andres! He is a fantastic pilot and he made the episode a blast! ;) I have a lot to learn from Josh bix and the other guys, but def enjoyed hangin with Andres and the Simple Cub Float planes! Thanks for watching John!
well, I found them 10 min after I posted this. The plans are listed in the forum under a post from SPONZ can't post the link but search for "SPONS plans index" they are listed on the second post under "FT Accessories"
Start with some predesigned plans, so you can practice your build skills and get a feel for what works and what doesn't. Aircraft design is a pretty giant field but luckily RC isn't too insane if you stick to simplified design and analysis methods.
Hope this helps - don't add weight to one side and keep trim centered, change that in flight and usually only by a few clicks. It makes turns difficult if oddly loaded up, even if you get it to fly straight. The likely problem for your left banking is the motor may not have down and right (if it's on the front with a prop and if your wings and tail are definitely straight). You need only a couple of degrees pointing down and same to the right. Am sure FT have a vid on that or in the Forum. Also too powerful a motor or too large a prop can do that - check similar designs of similar weight for the motor and prop they use. If it's a plane like a Cub here, go for a shallow bowl effect. The wings and tail should make a very slight dipped bowl. Search for "Supercub 3 view" for plans of real planes and look at the slight angles that are going on. Most stable planes need a bit of dihedral, which can also be thought of as a slight bowl across the wings. Weight is important. Check similar sizes on the forums for a design and go for that weight or a bit less. CG should be about 25% of the wing chord from the front edge on a conventional plane. Slightly nose down with battery onboard, as per J Bixler - a nose heavy plane flies badly, a tail heavy plane flies once. Choose the right prop. If you're not sure, base it on a similar looking R/C plane. You need at least 25% thrust to weight to fly, always try for a bit better, if lower it'll power glide into the ground at max throttle. If overpowered, it may corkscrew through the air at 1/2 throttle ! Don't over pack with features. You can have throttle and rudder only, build one that flies and then add elevator to it, maybe then ailerons. Minor point - 3.7g servo's will work for up to 7oz planes. Choose 9g for bigger. Maiden late in the day, the wind drops a ton at sunset. First thing in the morning is fine for paved areas, but too much dew on the grass normally for foam. Above all, experiment. Throw it, crash it, fix it, throw it again. Noone builds well at first, it needs practice, crashes are needed to know what you're looking at from experience...it's all part of the learning. Good luck and happy flying !
Hi, i am from vietnam, i am very fond of you, can you guide me to be a B2 plane? I wish to have Vietnamese subtitles to understand what you say. Thanks
Won't work. The flight controller will freak out with the unpredictable drag, and will end up going into an oscillating motion before joining the downed plane for a swim.
can you make a new tutorial for a hobby quad bomb drop I've looked and there aren't any good ones because they use the gimbal to drop it when it looks down and the others just don't work well
Jyri190 It won't work, there are too many fold types that require foam board to be able to have grooves cut into it. Also it will be heavier and it won't bend as well. But the foam board is a dollar a sheet at Dollar tree!
Haha! Actually the SCREWS that tighten the motor shaft on to the part you attach to the firewall came loose... and it just POPPED off! haha LUCKILY.. right when I landed!
Just a tip when float flying. A fishing pole with a tennis ball on the line. Cast out past plane and get lime mear the plane.just reel it in.Next is a rescue boat.Never swim for a downed aircraft
The first contribution of Andres to the team, and its something he's never even used before. Amazing.
Gotta love that kid! ha
Anytime you fly sea planes you need to have an rc recovery boat!
3:15 Idea for that situation: a multirotor with a winch with a small grappling hook (you can get it in a hunting and fishing shop), hook the plane and tow it back to the shore. Or just an RC boat... ¡With an operative crane!
An RC boat is a must have for any RC floatplane owner. Springer Boats are great for retrieval and easy to make.
Remember how you guys created a beginner series for planes, it would be nice for the new people like me, for you to do a quad beginner series.
They made a small article on it: www.flitetest.com/articles/beginner-s-guide-to-drones
Though I understand it's not as indepth as their aircraft ones... I got their Gremlin quadcopter set and have been really enjoying it though! They also recommend for RTF the Emax babyhawk (same parts as gremlin but prefabricated)
@simon: The words of somebody who has obviously never built a quad before....
You're the one hurling insults at some guy asking for help "...a quad is just some sticks fitted with propellers, tied to a gyroscope"
No, actually its not. Its pretty obvious you have never built one if you think its just tying motors to a 'gyroscope'
Ohhhhhhhhhhhh
thanks
Float Test is back!
There you go again having fun. Thanks for the demo. Shalom
Thanks for watching James! ;)

Great advice my friend! ;) We will def have to take that into consideration when we are out flying our SIMPLE CUB FLOAT planes! ;)
Floating Tubby Cubby. Love it.👍
I'm going to try and do this with snow skies for winter. It maybe my go to for Michigan lake effect snow.
I'd love to see the plans for the V Hulled floats
Me too
ua-cam.com/video/enxNDYxUjvg/v-deo.html
ua-cam.com/video/24e7bR8cVbA/v-deo.html
they are included in the plans, look carefully
Is it possible to take quad copter motors put them on a plane and then use differential thrust and if so a video explaining how to do it would be awesome
just ordered floats for my sport cub s2 :)
Elijah French don't the plane just. doesn't have enough power
well the. ultra micro. doesn't
the um does have floats, when the hobbie shop in my area had that plane they had floats to
Beautifully shot, great colors, awesome all-around video. Very high production quality.
Just finished building these great floats / pontoons form the speed build kit, to use with the simple cub, maybe later with the simple scout (which I haven't built yet).

I added flaps, works nice.
You learn a lot about the FT Tiny Trainer
I guess I could make some pontoons for my Bushwhacker, and/or maybe that could be a future upgrade part for it...
Aaron Roehm it's all waterproof. Peter did thag to protect it in saltwater etc. I dipped a plane in a lake and it was fine
Hey guys,
So... what we found out was that... the control surfaces worked while in the water etc... BUT when we got back to the shop we plugged it in and hit the throttle... BOOM Magic smoke lol So, essentially we puffed the esc... so.. everything else was grand...except we did not let it dry out! ha

FliteTest thanks! I appreciate the reply. Great episode by the way. Really fun!

Awesome! I will attempt to make these for my planes
Very nice! When I think of planes I never really picture them taking off or landing on water.
Looks like Andres is enjoying the coolest internship ever XD
We are blessed to have him and he def is enjoying himself... at least so it seems! ;)
Blessings!
Thanks guys!
Nice flights
Thanks Alexander!
Agreed...I miss living on a lake, float flying is a blast.
cool
awesome guys
that looks fun!
I'm going to get that for sure
FT can you guys do a Megatron jet mode ?
When I saw the landing that went into the beach it reminded me of the time I landed my Tidewater towards the sand at the lake and it skidded 5 feet onto land. Good times.😂😂
Make a manned multirotor with ur big motors or make a giant plane with them
did i see the tailSpin plane? awesome
A flight test I would love to see if y'all can add floats to the hobbyzone duet
Make a flying boat next!
Nice - Like
• Cheers from The Detroit Mackinac Railway • Pronounced: (mac-in-aw) 🚂
cool video!
BAM
Love the floats. It seems to be a bit sketchy but I bet you get used to it very quickly. How is the difference between flying with and without floats? Do you recognize it's effects?
VERY small... it flies well with our without to be honest... especially if you had landing gear already on your Cub!
flite test i would love to see you guys to rebuild the fire drone with peter he did say he wanted BIGGER.
There’s a man who has an actual plane on a lake near me and I want one like yours to “fly with him”
For a first seaplane, which is easier to fly, the cub with floats or the sea otter?
Float test
wow
Cool👍👍😎
Cool

Carmine ✈🚂🚙
Hey guys, this is completely off topic but when will you guys be doing more Glider towing ?
Behind looking from the front or looking from the back ?
Flite test, you know those large qaud motors you got a few vlogs back, I challenge you to put one (or more) on a flite test plane of your choosing
Oh, i like it! ;)
Maybe in the future : )
nice
How do you keep water from hitting and destroying the motor or esc or lipo?
Could this be made but for a quadcopter? I’ll be flying mine over water and I want to be prepared for anything and everything
can you make a mini race copter build ?
with a selfmade carbon frame ?
I think that would be classified as a GREMLIN ;) Check em out on the FT store Ante!
I built one of these and was very disappointed with the flight characteristics and ended up flying it twice and giving up on it. hi love jo vids
I bought one of your simple cub kits but it didn’t come with the wheels?
when will the floats be back in stock on the store?
Make pontoons for rc boat
Is this the first video which is being presented by Stephan?
This is definitely the first episode that I personally have taken a larger roll in... it was a LOT of fun with Andres! Which transmitter u have use to do bro pls tell me...
why don't you stick wheels into the floats so it can takeoff on land and water
Where can i get a plan for waterproof plane floats ?
Float test :)
Puberty on Andres
Did FT ever release the plans for the floats??? I can't find them on their site!
well, I found them 10 min after I posted this. The plans are listed in the forum under a post from SPONZ can't post the link but search for "SPONS plans index" they are listed on the second post under "FT Accessories"
can you make a rc blimp with helium plz
Do the floats go on the simple storch too?
What are the specs of Alex's quad? Is he flying 5" or 6"?
When will it be in stock
Scratch building is so hard for me. None of my planes I designed work. Does anybody have any tips to designing my own plane?
Start with some predesigned plans, so you can practice your build skills and get a feel for what works and what doesn't. Aircraft design is a pretty giant field but luckily RC isn't too insane if you stick to simplified design and analysis methods.
Senuht one of them keeps rolling to the left, no matter how much weight and trim I add to that side

Slider2732 Thank you for the advice! I will try doing what you talked about; thrust angle, just the right power, 3 views. Thank you! Happy flying 😊
Hi, i am from vietnam, i am very fond of you, can you guide me to be a B2 plane? I wish to have Vietnamese subtitles to understand what you say. Thanks
When will TJ 's gremlins frame be back in stock?
Hopefully soon Dain! We will keep you all posted ;)
Last!
Nope. Not even close.
Hahaha! ;) Love it!
FLITE FEST REUNION!!
Scan you help me,I bought a Darin airplane on amazon but I want it to float I tried so many things what do I use to make it float
turn your quad into a retriever........'hook a loop and pull that leash'.....boom--no wet feet.........
Won't work. The flight controller will freak out with the unpredictable drag, and will end up going into an oscillating motion before joining the downed plane for a swim.
Design RC rocket gliders for sale....please
can you make a new tutorial for a hobby quad bomb drop I've looked and there aren't any good ones because they use the gimbal to drop it when it looks down and the others just don't work well
What kind of quad are you thinking about? One you built yourself or one you buy in the store?
What's up today notification squad!
You know I actually got first on a flitetest vid woop woop!
Second
Can*
what material
Can I make the cub out of cardboard??? It's the only thing what I have now, and I have a lot of it
Jyri190 It won't work, there are too many fold types that require foam board to be able to have grooves cut into it. Also it will be heavier and it won't bend as well. But the foam board is a dollar a sheet at Dollar tree!
Can I put these floats on my simple scout?
Yes you can
I guess they waterproof the paper that covers the foam board.
Anyone remember FloteTest?
quite dangerous if one can't swim
