Hey brother! My apologies that took so long getting around to watching this video. For some reason the almighty algorithm was trying to keep this one hit from me. I've been a huge fan of your videos your commentary and your personality for quite some time and yet again I'm thankful for another one of your videos. John Moreland, in my eyes, is one of the mightiest and yet humblest of pure American singer-songwriters. You don't care for me enough to cry is my favorite song of John's. Therefore I thoroughly enjoyed your review of this. Also, I'm leaving this comment to directly relay my heartfelt appreciation for your commentary and insight which you shared at the tail end of the video. What you referenced in regards to that desire to change, realizing that the ideas and actions of our beloved are differences rather than mistakes and that we ought to act with temperance, compassion and, as you said, Grace hit the same heart string that John moreland's songs often tingle. I just wanted to extend to you a heartfelt appreciation. Thank you so much for what you do and thank you so much for how you do it! Carry on, good sir
John is a songwriting genius. This is the song that caught my attention. I’ve suggested this song to a hundred reactors, but nobody does it. Simply phenomenal song, and the emotion behind it by from a guy like John. Chills. Nobody puts words together like that. It feels almost blasphemous to say it, but I’d put him right up there with Kristofferson, and that my friend is a HUGE statement.
Probably my favorite song by him. It's the perfect breakup song. Can't think of any song that describes the breakdown of a romantic relationship better. Incredibly cathartic song. Truly, truly a perfect. Can't stress that more. Great video Burt! You had me almost crying at one point, and laughing my butt off the next! "I beg, steal, and borrow. I'm so damn good at sorrow. And you don't care for me enough to cry." I seriously want that one as a tattoo. Great closing line.
About a year and a half ago I listen to this song nonstop. My life experience at that time was this song. Must be something in the Tulsa water. Your reaction is absolutely spot on.
This song wrecks me as well. There are so many lines that burrow in my head. Today, the last verse about beg, steal & borrow hit me hardest in the feels. I've been listening to the Tulsa album on loop for almost a week now... Cool vid too. Ty
I want to thank you for the love you sent out to everyone. I've been feeling sad in my relationship with my wife and never understand why this Moreland song stirred so many emotions in me. Until you spoke of apathy, and I think that's what I'm getting from my wife. Again, thank you for the love. There are people who need it even from someone you will never meet.
A friend told me to check out John Moreland a couple years ago and I never did. Big mistake! The song writing is incredible. Going to go check out everything he has.
This, to me is perfect songwriting. I doesn’t get much better for me. This song crushing me in my soul every time I hear it like I’m hearing it for the first time.
5:45 funny to hear you describe the situation I’ve been in for a handful of years now. I often second guess the validity of my pain, which feels akin to accepting that I don’t deserve my wife’s love. Hmm, not fun.
Absolutely a beautiful masterpiece right here mr Moreland out here doing great things. Burt I know you got something in the works but how cool would it be to get John on the channel for a night?
I'm the kind of love that's hard to look at.... GD , y'all. Who doesn't feel his pain. I love this song. I'll just say it...God Damnit! Since my first hearing of this song I've been addicted to his pain. Is that sick or what? Where was he when I lived in Tulsa? Probably in diapers. I left there in 96...lol
I feel like no their genre has lyrics like country. Obviously there are great songs in different genres but overall country the best written lyrics I feel.

When I discovered him it was his song Cherokee. Something about it pulled me in. he has so much pain in his songs but it's beautiful at the same time.
Really well described Shawn. I feel that same balance.
Probably my favorite song by him.

I’ll always love 3:59 AM, idk if it’s his “best” but I like it and man is he good, he could sing a phonebook and I’d listen
Love John, he is GREAT! Hell of a nice guy and a good hang too, see him live, he's worth the price of admission and then some.👍

If you are the person., because a love that’s hard to look at. Is soul-scraping sad. 20 plus years later I get it
Great choice. He writes a fantastic song.
The two finger finger picking is called Piedmont Picking.
