I found this song right when my wife and I were going through a very, very rough patch in our marriage. I was sitting on my deck and played this song about 10 times and cried harder each time. I wanted to shut it off but I kept hitting repeat. It was cathartic to just be able to empty my mind, heart and soul for that brief moment in time.
It was this line that got me:
"I dreamt I'd take you with me. And you'd say you forgive me, and we'd live out some easy ancient song"
I have a tough time listening to this song, even today...but I do. And I love it. And it makes me remember who I need to be.

The first date with my wife was in high school in '89. We were married young and had our first child young. There were years there, many, where we were only together due to inertia. Our 20s sucked. Today I can't imagine being with anyone else. We're not just a part of each others lives, we're a part of each others beings. It took work and change and fights and tears. Discovered this dude last year and sprayed his music all around me (no one knows him here in France). So intense, his guitar playing is good, and dear god, his lyrics are amongst the great. Reminds me of some that Bob Dylan could have wrote. No need to mention that his singing is amazing too. Great artist. Music like this will never fade, cause it contains everything that makes us human beings with feelings imo.
And thank you for your work over it, in my opinion you got everything that makes him so good ! You seem so touched by this song, and don't worry, I think we all feel the same when we listen to him ! :D

I Watched her pack it all up this morning. Sww her and my boy drive off to whatever is next for them. There wasn’t any more anger or hurt in her eyes or if there was she hid it like a pro. I was real proud of her for how she conducted herself. Be good to those that let you in if you don’t they will eventually leave you sitting there wishing you could have done things different.

There's music and then there's John Moreland. There really is nothing quite like a kick to the gut that is a great John Moreland song.

I came to hear you further illuminate the mysteries of how music brings us together and makes us feel, I didn't expect to leave with such an amazing and passionate explanation, which truly felt personal, of the intricacies of life and love. Thank you, both of you!

First of all. This is hand down my favourite version of this long. The way the audience buy into the song as Moreland lives every second makes it special. Everyone one has been there at some point. Where you don’t want to give up but your entire body or mind is telling you it’s useless because a bad reaction is better than no reaction at all in your mind.
Secondly thank you for breaking this down it a song that made me want to pick up the guitar again. More importantly thank you for your vulnerability.

John is one of my favorite songwriters. I know this video is old, but I would like you to listen to one of his older tunes called "God's Medicine" off the album: In the Throes. It's tied with this song as personally hard hitting for me.

This song still breaks me in half. Blacklist is the other song. I started to heal from abuse after hearing these two songs one morning at 5am. I needed to hear them and one sleepless night I found them. Good luck to good people. Spent two days learning those songs in agony. Thank god for my guitars. They haven't let me down. Real love... 40 years.

You get it wrong till you get it right. Powerful thought. Sometimes you exhaust everything. You hope you hit a soft bottom not a hard loose everything bottom. Sometimes hard to shake the ghost that'll take you down. I love your enthusiasm but really enjoyed your open heart. I got it right finally glad you did to.
