I do recommend this game and I absolutely can see why it is a classic. Perhaps I'm too biased for Grandia 2, however I still enjoyed my time with Grandia. Please be sure to give it a try and subscribe :) This game was played on my SWITCH.
I have 62 hours into this game on the Saturn right now and still have a ways to go on disc 2 and love it. I agree with everything you said here in this video however. Great video!
I'll admit that part of it is nostalgia, but Grandia gave me an experience in gaming I'll never forget. I don't think any RPG before or since was able to capture the sense of wonder and discovery that accompanies adventure quite as well as this one. The soundtrack is incredible, and there are many moments that stand out in my memory - the ghost ship, the first meeting and duel with Gadwin, _that_ moment with Sue that'll probably still make me cry if I think too hard about it even now. Of course, it has its flaws too, but for me it's really a game where the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Perhaps I feel similarly about Grandia 2 as you feel about 1 - I enjoyed it a lot for what it was (Elena and Millenia gave me huge Aeka and Ryoko from Tenchi Muyo vibes) but there's something about the original that's just... special somehow.
I can absolutely feel your love for Grandia 1 my friend. It is the same exact love I have for Grandia 2. That first feeling of playing something so amazing. That resonates and sticks with you for years, and becomes the metric by which your standards have been formed..I love Grandia 2 so much. Both soundtracks are still some of my favorite music ever. Ah man. Yes you bring up a great point, Melinia and Ryudo definitely have me some of those tenchi vibes lol. Ahh I miss the 90s/early 2000s haha Thank you for the amazing comment my friend. You brought me back haha
Aight you have similar taste to me. I played Grandia 2 back in the day and didn't get round to play Grandia until last year. Having just finished Wild Arms before it, I was so happy to start a game where the character personalities were so vivid and clear to grasp. Battle system was great too. Good review man!
Hey Sevish! First and foremost thank you so much for taking the time and checking out my channel as well as my video! Seriously Grandia 2 is literally one of my favorite games of ALL times! You make me want to feature it on the channel lol. Grandia 2 was a staple for how JRPGs should be for me. I sincerely appreciate you, thanks so much! Im still learning this UA-cam thing but you guys are making it easier!
@@kali-qgames1301 Yeah Grandia 2 is fantastic. That twist near the end of the game (about what happened to Granas) blew my mind when I was younger and still memorable to this day. The music was great and I enjoyed leveling up and swapping out different mana eggs. If you end up reviewing some games that you're passionate about that can only be a good thing! And thanks for the kind words!
Excellent review! I had always wanted to play this but never had the chance!, Thanks for taking the time to go trhough it and look out for the smaller known jrpgs. Ill check this one out. 🙏🏽🙏🏽
Grandia I is an all time favorite. Such fond memories of this timeless classics, Great characters, great graphics, great story. Only sin is that the game is so easy, it doesn't reach the full potential of its unique and awesome battle system.
I absolutely can see why it's so revered! It has just a nice charm to it! It was a n excellent foundation for the series! Thanks so much for watching and commenting :)
Great review man, I just started playing after absolutely adoring G2, and so far I think I have the same nitpicks, although no comment on the story this early into my game.
@@kali-qgames1301 I 100%'d Grandia 2, and really just started G1, like just finished the ghost ship, so just 5-6 hours in so far. The compass slowly spinning in circles in towns instead of aiming at landmarks I wanna get too is so infuriating XD
Thank you so much for checking out my video! It means alot! And yes Grandia 2 is amongst my favorite JRPGS of all time! So I can't wait to eventually review that for the channel someday! You should check this one out as well!

I appreciate you watching my review so much!, Thanks for the kind words and support!, I'm glad to meet you and hopefully see you around in our community more :)
Always be true to yourself and your opinions, if we all liked everything the same it wouldn’t be interesting! I personally have never been into this series but wanted to see what your thoughts were. 😊
Grandia was ahead of it's time in so many ways, definitely love this game as an important part of JRPG history. That being said, that item management system is rough. And another thing: this game flashes like crazy. A lot of sudden white screens and strobe flashes, so if you have like epilepsy or something else, watch out!
I love Grandia so much! It felt like PLAYING a Ghibli movie to me (most specifically Laputa) more than anything else - Ni No Kuni may have had Ghibli art, but Grandia hit the feeling. And probably despite - not because of - Justin saying adventure over and over, it really hit a feeling of adventure like no other game for me. But interestingly, I felt somewhat the opposite - early game the characters felt silly to me, whereas it seriousness grew towards the end and really pulled me in. I will admit a few parts felt like a bit of a slog. But loved the soundtrack, and still have "Complete Victory", "Deck Swabbing" and "The Three Young Women" on my phone playlist. Don't even remember what it was about, but remember as a kid being very depressed when I played it... and then discovering it had a completely different battle song if you won with no damage or something... so went around beating up weak enemies to hear the song over and over and it cheered me right up! lol. I wish they'd done a better remaster though... feels like this one dropped by 2D HD really hit its stride. More the pity.
As I said before I came from Grandia 2 first, so I had certain expectations when going back to the first game. However, I can completely agree with what you said. The first Grandia does have an amazing charm that most JRPGs are missing thesedays. It literally did feel like a big grand adventure (every time I say that word now I think of Justin lol) But I agree with that studio Ghibli comparison, Grandia would make such a great movie speaking of that lol I really appreciate you checking out and watching my videos, thank you so much Taikaru
i played this when i was a kid back in 90s. this game is made to use your imagination and memorization (maps. locations, save points). Most of the JRPG on that era requires you use your brain too
@@kali-qgames1301 it's was the first JRPG I ever played. Bought it for dirt cheap in PS1, I literally just liked the front cover. The 1 time judging a book by its cover worked out. The game was way bigger than I ever thought and the combat was such a fun spin on the turn based style. I only wish the world make a spiritual successor or Grandia 4. 3 kinda killed the series.
The music absolutely great, i miss the 3 battles theme as you progress in the game... It's a shame Grandia 2 didn't take that. (I'm not talking about ambushed theme)
Yeah especially with Grandia 2 being my favorite JRPGs ever. Though I'm a little biased. But I just couldn't get into Justin's story of adventure like I did for Ryudo's growth
Loved this game because of Feena. Felt like dating feena while I was playing this game.. Stayed because of the fighting system. Favorite character is Feena because of her voices just as how my favorite character in Baldur's Gate 2 is Imoen 🙂
I've had a pretty decent time with Grandia 1. It's not really my personal favorite since I wasn't the biggest fan of the story and find it to be a little grindy in terms of improving abilities so it kinda hurt the pacing for me. However, I still think that it's a good time since the combat is still really fun and yeah that music is just so dang good. A little rough around the edges but that's no surprise since it's a PS1 JRPG and I do find that to be charming. Overall, I enjoy it for what it was.
I love the ability to equip different weapons and level up both weapons AND Magic. I don't like that the later games simplified/altered this too much. That being said, I do think leveling them were a bit grindy. In truth, I prefer Grandia 1 to the rest of the series. Indeed, I wish more games would take some queues from it.

@@kali-qgames1301 I was able to download the PS1 version of Grandia to my PS Vita. I will play it when I have time. JRPG's are very time consuming. I used to run through them in a couple of days as a little guy. Now that I've sprouted it can take me months to finish one.
For me grandia 1 and grandia 2 are tied for different reasons. Grandia feels more complex but at the same time shows more flaws, Grandia 2 more streamlined but at the same time can be too simplistic and easy. I think story and character wise they were pretty close that it wouldn't fair for me personally to say which one is better. Grandia extreme and 3 tho are the weak ones, 3 is playable but extreme is just grind a thon.
This is an extremely fair take! I actually agree with you too. I'm not mad if people tie the first two games. They are both excellent games. Grandia 2 is just Definitely more my style. But Grandia definitely has its amazing moments!
To me everything about the soundtrack in the battle system is good, But Justin, I think it’s not the right protagonist for epic adventure story like this. He reminds me too much of Vaan from Final Fantasy 12. Nothing about him is amazing. Besides, his optimism is his Very own downfall. He could’ve been a better character after going through adversity of family, abuse, political conflicts, and near death experiences in order to help him mature into a real adventurer. Ryudo from grandia 2 is a much better protagonist. I’m just speaking the facts.
