The Emerald Triangle offers some of the best scenery in the country along with some of he nicest people you'll meet but the deeper into those mountains you drive the more uneasy you feel. then you start to notice all the missing people posters in the store windows, the cashiers at gas stations going from unbelievably nice to basically throwing your change at you, how paranoid some of the people are and the stories they tell and then you realize exactly where you are and how much money is all around you. when most people think of weed they dont associate it with violence but the mountains of those three counties supply a lot the country's black market weed and are full of very protective generational farmers who arent fond of outsiders and a lot scammers looking to take advantage of naive out of towners who want to get rich growing out there.

Worked a mid summer light dep harvest a decade ago up outside of garberville. We could only go into town once a week but we had a chef cooking great meals for us twice a day. It was hard hot work but was fun too. Those days are gone. Legalization made the whole reality more dangerous and people are more desperate these days. A lot of the good growers got out.

I really had no choice at the time and the opportunity was there for anyone willing to risk it for the most part. Met some wonderful people, Also met someone people that made me question if I was in America. One I can share is a group of people who grabbed flights from Houston after using google maps trying to target grow ops, they flew to Cali and decided to take the drive thinking the drive is just like any other, and that they would rob someone there as they found a way to also have weapons on them when they landed in cali. They were driving around 101 which is a 2 lane highway that runs around mountains in Cali and is the only road leading into Humboldt. some would say karma but let's just say the car they rented to get up the mountain ended up rolling off of it. leaving the 4 people with rifles and plots/maps to rob the grow ops, found dead inside the car.
