For those of you confused on the story thus far, let me explain it the best I can. I'll start by explaining it from where Michael ( the lawyer ) tells Jake to wake up at the restaurant. After Jake wakes up, he's in the interrogation room with Michael, and this is for those who are confused on the whole "Was all of it fake?" idea. No, not all of it was fake, there were a few sections in the story that I think were fake but most of what Jake did in the ARC complex did happen, it was after he got shot in the head did Jake have what the doc said was a 'stress release' in which he dreams of escaping and the complex exploding. Next, Jake is sent back into his mind to go read a journal that Jake's dad obviously recorded in. We don't understand much about what this journal is talking about but we do know a few things. 1) Jake's dad is Posterus, the Western Janus, and talks about Terminus, the eastern Janus, the youngest member on the team. I don't want to theorize about this, so I'll leave it to you to understand the content of the journal, but it describes many things that correlate to Jake. 2) This journal and it's contents are of extreme importance to Michael, we do not know why and we can only theorize, but this is really all we know, and by the way, Michael is NOT dead, which backs up his statement that he might be much more than just a lawyer. 3) Mia and Tom knew each other in the Complex, in fact it might be that they had a relationship of some kind there. Now I'll explain Jake and him escaping from the PD. When Jake leaves the interrogation room, to the right you will see Bryan escaping the other interrogation room after Raito/Takeo unlocks the door for him. On the left you will see Michael in the elevator and the news report of the city being attacked. I think I should talk about "her" and "guilt" here as well. So in the PD, you will spot these two characters while trying to escape a couple times and even in the final scene towards the end. Whenever you see "her" you know you are going the right way, almost like she's trying to help you, but when you see "guilt" he will lead you to armed death squads trying to take you out, so don't ever follow guilt. About the death squads, we don't know who they belong to, but we hear them having a chat with one of the people in the PD saying they've come for you and you don't wanna know who they are, and kill him. I don't wanna say this is exactly it for sure, but they seem to me like a clean up crew and they possibly worked for the people that Matthew worked for ( Matthew's superior is also mentioned to possibly have been Frank, check out the wiki if you want info about that one ) anyway after escaping to the room in the final scene of chapter 1 / chapter 2 intro, we see guilt standing in front of Jake, and behind Jake stands her, Jake then drops to the ground and screams in a release of mixed emotions and in his mind sparks, papers and cabinets are flying for a more dramatic look. The death squads burst through the door, and aim at Jake. Jake sprints towards the window and just as they open fire, Raito comes in and kills them. Raito/Takeo runs towards the windows to make sure Jake is alright and proceeds back downstairs. Jake safely landed in a dumpster, and we get a wide shot of the city with confusingly the twin towers present ( there's also an interesting story in one of the diary pages about 9/11 described by "her" and it's very interesting to read about ). Lastly, why is Raito there? Is he trying to reach or kill Jake? The answer is: Raito has come back to save the group from the arc complex as he promised he would once Mia was safe. Raito is not trying to kill Jake, he's keeping good on his promise that he would return and come back for them as he said he would on the radio. I hope this clears up any confusion, and comment back if you have any questions you have; I could probably help you out.
I think the people that are trying to kill you are the pmcs that are apart of Royce' s squad. The reason is because Royce is part of ito triad and his job is to track down runaways from the complex i.e (Jake and Bryan)
Necroing a 6 year old comment, but one thing still confuses me. So it is implied that the complex Jake assaults in the prologue is the same facility from Chapter 1, right? So jake being a prisoner there was real or fake?
@@boristheblade9496 Kinda late ik. but in prologue we as Jake attack another simillar ARC complex, the one in the city. In this complex also was a outbreak of the virus that turns ppl in zombies. That's why PMcs attack the hospital to prevent virus from breaking out from the complex. As we also know. The chief of security in the second complex ( i dont remember his name) was there as one of the soldier that was holding sent to ARC complex one in the city.
The dev went on to become the lead designer of Insurgency and Insurgency Sandstorm. He was also working on a UE4 port of Underhell before that, so I'm hopeful that in his position he can some day make a full production version of Underhell happen.
I did on the first playthrough. This right here was actually a recording of me going through the end so I could take a good look at the map because me and a few friends were planning on making an unofficial continuation of Chapter 2's beginning. Mainly what I was doing was trying to see Guilt form in the test tube behind the journal, which you can see right at the end of the last Journal reading.
I've kind of figured out something that makes sense. I believe that the game took place in the Underground Facility of the Prologue, but at the end of the Prologue is where it really split. Jake's Guilt broke loose and killed EVERYONE. That's where it's a twist. In Jakes mind, he was in the Prison; Guilt put him in there, and when the zombie outbreak happened, in his mind he was killing Zombies, but in reality, his Guilt is manifesting itself and killing innocent Humans. If you have play Afraid of Monsters, it's kind of like that. You are killing innocent people, but think they are monsters. This would also mean the people Jake met up with were Guards of the facility, not Prison guards. This would also mean he killed his teammates, as at the end it is said that no one survived. Damn, Mxthe needs to explain this to us or something, or hopefully one of his next Chapters will explain it to us.
I think the prison happened in his mind and all the people that he met there were parts of him. I agree with you, he created that prison in his mind for his guilt, but things kinda stopped making sense for me when Jake first saw his father's diary. I had no idea what the fuck was going on but the ending was just incredible. I can't explain what happened to the town though, it just simply went to hell...
lone wanderer That's...Where I lose all concept of reality, and fake. I'd just say for now, stop with the theories and wait for Chapter 2 to be even more confusing.
thefunny711 Its not a theory, this has been confirmed by the games writer. Just spend like a few hours on the Underhell forums and all will become clear.
"That scene was symbolizing Jake's confusion, him facing his demons, and finally waking up. All the previous events were *mixed* between reality and fantasy. Afterwards, he is wide awake." (c) Mxthe, from Forums
In my opinion, I think that after Jake being shot in the head, escaping the facility was fake and in his dreams. However, whilst he was busy escaping, his guilt broke out of his head and his dreams when he was shot. His guilt is what is causing the outbreak, almost seeming unstoppable. But, you see the memories or his wife holding him together and her trying to get Jake to not blame himself for her death. And that is all I think... probably wrong, but best to go with gut feeling...
Here allow me to clear things through for those who've played the game and confused of the story. So when they said some of Jake's memories were a bit fake, they meant the whole part about getting there in a copter in Arizona, and breaking out with a jeep, shooting everything on sight. The city (AKA the dead city) was where the Facility was the entire time, and upon escaping, was shot in the head and taken into custody by local Law Enforcement.
Honestly, I don't think chapter 2 will take TO long to make, considering they already have models for enemies, they have the hud, they have all the stuff that they worked on to put in chapter 1, so I assume that Chapter 2 wont take to long to make because they already have the weapon models, skins, textures, animations, and the little features, so it might take around 10 months at the most I am guessing, who knows? But I seriously am itching to play chapter 2, I was so scared of playing chapter 1 but I manned up and did it, and I think I can handle some more scares.
that maybe true...but just look how long Chapter 1 was. imagine how long Chapter 2 is gonna be. yes they may have the weapon models, character models, map textures, animations, ect. but listen...they also have to redesign the zombie models. since in Chapter one the zombies are mostly Inmates and Guards. and yes they might use the same weapon models. and sure they will use the same animations...but they might add some new ones. so it may take more then 10 months...i say...12...or 13.
Mia is real , she made Jake become immune to th virus(or transform in something else when contact the virus). In prologue ending , its already leaked a little information that Jake is something else(virus suppose to kill him but he become something else and killed everyone). And now Jake totally become a superhuman like Raito .
In other words, Ben and Terry are alive as long with that Vent guy I completely forgot about. The virus in that facility leaked out when Law enforcement infiltrated the compound, and now everythings gone to shit, and Takeo is your new best friend.
okay but....then what about that scene that jake screams or something with a skinless guy infront of him....i played this game 2 times already...so confused, lol.
so wait was the bit were he drops on his kneels and the girl and the skinless guy appear and all of the rooms objects start get lifted all part of Jakes imagination
Sorry to bother you, but is there an estimate of when the next release is out? Also, are there recurring characters or probably mostly new ones? I am in love with this game so far, best mod I have had the pleasure of playing.
You missed the best part of the ending, when you're in the lab and told to read the journal, walk past it and go towards the door with the flashing light behind it. It's subtle how it was hinted at when the guys in the interview room said Jake was going to have a seizure.
hey Mxthe! i have been meaning t contact you ever since i completed Underhell (that was 4 years ago) and i was wondering if you cant make Chapter 2 yet, maybe make and expansion of chapter one with different stories (maybe a PMC soldier and PMC hazmat story, or a prisonguards story) as a means to continue giving the players content? that would be great! thanks specialunit 042
The girl is not the same as Mia? Sorry, I guess I should play this myself or at least watch someone's playthrough of it. I wonder if there will be a recurring cast of characters for the next chapter, since it just seems like a waste to introduce some and then kill off almost all of them for the next. Great job on the story, interesting characters and the game as a whole, very engaging and immerses you in the story.
Oh, anyway since you're here, I am having trouble making an account on WCS, I entered my email and it said that I would get a confirmation message, but I haven't recieved one yet, I am using AOL, is that the problem?
