    Good to see someone who gets / understands the spring rate set right first, (course Is expect Rm to know this, u guys rock) but it's the most over looked factor on any bike especially by non pro riders! Then they complain the suspension is poor, nice work RM👍
    Another good feature about the oil injection is how clean it runs, you won't get excess oil mix in the cylinder as the oil mixture is determined by the throttle control sensor so it always squirts in the amount of oil to fuel mixture, good for cylinder, position and ring longevity as well as a cleaner burn.
    Plus that Power Valve characteristic can be changed with a 5mm Allen key while you are out riding, you don't have to carry any springs with you and remove the PV caver and change them over, very cool.
    It will be interesting to see how clean this is compared tot the TPI on 18 KTMs and Huskys, effectively achieving the same thing via a different technology!
    Great vid guys, cheers🤙

      Oh btw the new my 18s are nearly 10lbs lighter again, though I think I prefer the Red plastics and Gold forks than the later white and black look jmo! Up close in person it might be different.
      Also you should note that this is the Base model RR, Beta also offer the RR Race Version! Cheers👍

      MaverickDH I could be wrong but I think most of that 10lbs. is from a lithium battery and I think they removed the kick starter. My '16 300RR weighs 258lbs with radiator guards,hand guards, carbon pipe guard and full fuel ready to ride.

    In the first 10 minutes you've already told us more info and provided more insight about the bike than Kyle from dirt bike channels first five videos. Kudos to Rocky Mtn. Excellent review and Chance did a great job telling us his impressions and explaining everything about the bike. Only thing you should have mentioned is that Beta offers a Race Edition which has some extra bling and stiffer Sachs CC front forks and rear shock. I have a 16 300 RR and ride in tight and rocky Pennsylvania coal country single track. I have a P-Tech skid on mine which I love, Obie linkage guard, Seat Concepts low wide seat, Tubliss front and rear, Pirelli MT16 rear and Bridgestone M59 front tires, 165 Main and 38 pilot with Suzuki NEDJ needle in 2nd clip position, PV set 1 turn in from flush, Force Accesories meter guard and clutch slave guard, EE handguards, Beta/Unabiker Rad guards/braces, and the Beta sharkfin for the rear rotor. You guys should start carrying Beta OEM parts, lots and lots of Beta owners would be very happy. There's more of us every day haha.

      With all due respect this guy just copy paste everything he saw, read and heard in the dirt bike social media, because it is obvious to see how his riding sucks, and with his level he's not able to feel not even 1/3 about the things he is talking about. Anyhow congrats to the channel, keep up with the good work. (But next time choose better the rider/reporter)

      Keep in mind also that I have a full time job that doesn't have anything to do with dirt bikes to put food on the table for my family :) My time is a bit more limited that Rocky Mountain ATV/MC. I give my opinions. People don't have to agree with me, and that is perfectly fine.

      I'm anxiously awaiting your full review video. I think it's going be awesome. I appreciate and understand the time and effort that goes into your channel, I don't have a problem with you or the channel. I still support and enjoy watching your content, which is why I bought some shirts for the Sherco giveaway (I hope there won't be any "surprises" in my package lol). And I agree with almost everything you've said about the bike in your most recent videos, you seem to be enjoying and understanding the bike for what it is more and more with each ride. I just didn't enjoy and/or agree with some of those initial vids. And I have no problems speaking my mind about it. That's just me and like you said, not everybody has to agree with my opinions, that's perfectly fine with me too.

    IMO the PV adjustment is the best feature on this bike. It can completely change the nature of the bike in seconds, its like a customizable engine with a dial. On the ktm you have to change out the springs to achieve those results. I carry a 5mm wrench under the push button seat, don't even have to take my gloves off.

    • @BoogiemanMoto
      @BoogiemanMoto 7 років тому +1

      99% agree! I would only modify that to say it's ONE of the best features on the bike :o)

    When the 17 Beta 300rr Race versions arrived at my local dealership, I was there looking at KTM and Husky. The owner of the dealership Raved at Beta’s warranty and customer review record that he has experienced. He said: have u seen Beta? I’m like no. I’ve been riding CR250R two strokes forever. He said he’s had more than his share of KTM return issues and Beta has a better warranty yet none of the bikes he’s sold ever come back for warranty. So I did research on riders opinions etc. and with the extras the Race version comes with and the cost still being less than KTM I went with the Beta 300. I’m very pleased. It rides different than my screamer CR250R. It’s linear power delivery is nice and predictable. It’s very balanced like when u hit kickers and unpredictable terrain. It flies straight, doesn’t get out of shape unexpectedly. The ergos are great. The seat is hard, which I like. U can get a soft seat if requested. I don’t sit much so I like a harder saddle. I was nervous on my way to ride it for the first time. I was so happy after the first ride. No regrets. I love it. Oh.. I got the Race version which comes with closed cartridge forked. They are a little stiff. Since I’m not pro I need to get them revolved. The Beta suspension guru in Las Vegas told me it should be done as well as the shock nitrogen piston can fade and recommended a bladder style be installed. I changed the shock spring. I’m 190 with no gear on and the stick spring has a max of 180’ish. The low end grunt has saved me a few times already. The plastic breaks supposedly but I haven’t had an issue there.

    On my beta 2017 300RR make this modifications : I have a OEM skid Platen, Obie linkage guard, 170 Main and 45 pilot with NEDJ needle in 2nd clip position, PV set 1 1/2 turn in from flush, , Corona handguards, EE Rear Disc protector. My next mod is Obie linkage guard. I agree with my friend to you guys should start carrying Beta OEM parts, lots and lots of Beta owners would be very happy.

    I have a 2016 RR300 Race edition and love it! I have mine plated for Utah and all I needed to do was install the turn signals, flasher relay, a license plate tail light all of which were pre wired so it was pretty much plug and play. Oh and a mirror.

    I just finished riding the Klim Cow Tag ride this weekend. Last year there were a handful of Betas at the event. This year it seemed between a quarter and a third of the bikes were betas. Beta is really becoming a very popular bike in the U.S. You guys really need to get set up to carry beta OEM. I’m thinking Helper really needs a Beta Dealership. ;-)

      Beta has been exploding in sales for years. Their models sell out and the factory is selling most everything they make. It’s at capacity. Beta is a very small company. It’s not huge like Ktm/husky. There is also a 6 month warranty on this bike.rs models have a year warranty.

    My beta: I love her :) Only modifications on it : Flush powervalve (just right power - still controlable powerband) and removed oil injection. I have heard some people had melt their pistons because of oil injection failiure (air bubbles, clogged with mess from oil tank). So I got it removed for safety reasons. Premixing gas is 2 minute job. Cmon. I use it for extreme enduro(set up perfectly) and motocross/cross country on mx track(suspension feels soft on track, so I might get it stiffer). I recommend it to everyone! 300 stroke was my dream bike, but If I were to choose other it would probably be 350 xc-f.

    I don't have a 300RR, but I do have a '17 Xtrainer. If you buy 2 clutch springs from the 300 2T trials bike and swap them in. You'll love the clutch pull even more. So you'll have 2 clutch springs from stock and 2 from the trials bike. Unless the RR has 5 or 6 springs. If there's 6, I guess you could try 3 and 3. Other than that. All stock. I do run Tubliss and have a Goldentyre 216 AA fatty in the front. Also all the protection for trail riding. My skid plate on my XTRAINER is for a 300RR. It's a TMD skid. Just had to drill a new hole in the rear. It offers more protection than the one for the Xtrainer.

    • @BoogiemanMoto
      @BoogiemanMoto 7 років тому

      Do you have a part number for the clutch springs you used?

    • @danp4203
      @danp4203 7 років тому +1

      Asah E. Just the ones from the 300 evo 2 stroke trials bike.

    • @BoogiemanMoto
      @BoogiemanMoto 7 років тому

      Gotch. I'll check it out. I tried the washer mod on the clutch springs, with 1.6mm washers. Didn't like it, clutch pull was almost identical and in 5th or 6th gear at speed the clutch would slip every so often. I'm leaning towards saying the heck with it and buying a Clake.

    • @danp4203
      @danp4203 7 років тому +1

      ngcsu I recently just picked up a 300RR. I would say the Xtrainer is not for a beginner. If you know how to use a clutch and won't freeze up when you get in trouble. By all means get one. If you may have times of whiskey throttle and freezing up. Do not get one. The only power the Xtrainer is missing is the top end hit. The Xtrainer is still a 300 2 stroke. The reason why it's called a Xtrainer is because that's what it's made for. Cross training. Which is trials skills on a dirt bike. Ultimately it's your money. You can get one to learn to ride on if you want. People race them in Harescramble events and Enduro and Enduro cross events and win against the bikes like the 300RR, KTM 300XC, Husqy 300TE, etc. That's not things you would do on a "beginners" bike. The Trainer in the name doesn't mean beginner.

  • @Khemikl1
    @Khemikl1 7 років тому

    I've had one of these for two months now, I do a lot of single trail and gnarly rocky tracks, perfect for this bike, especially with it's lower than usual first two gears. Most KTM riders, those that own 300's find it a bit tame, usually because of the factory setting for the power valve, unscrew it and everything changes, they stop their whining.
    The Jetting might need adjusting for your particular region, mine was ok out of the box. The only issue I've had is the speedo magnet dropped out of the front disk, they all rattle, put a second washer in there and maybe even some silicon to hold it firm. Then there is the kickstand, the most useless one in the world, it will fall over after sinking into wet soil every time, drill a hole in the bottom of your kickstand and screw on a flat bit of metal to it.

    I added the following to my 17 300RR Race: EE skid plate/handguards/shark fin, Fastway linkage guard, clutch cover guard, Q4 silencer (for spark arrestor), Unabiker rad guards, Shinko 505 Cheater/546 tires, 5.4 rear spring. Madly in love. And I don't mind mixing gas one bit.
    You're right about Sachs suspension updates... My stock 17 CC forks are light years better than revalved/modded forks on my 14 498RR. The shock is great on both bikes, actually.

      Try it to start with, but if you ride above 80 degrees you may find it a bit rich. what main and pilot are you running? I'm not N expert with jetting, I go by how the plug looks and how the throttle response is. If anything stay a little to the rich side until your confident with your adjustments.

      An update for you,
      I rode last Sunday at about 8000-8500 ft between 65-75 degrees with a 35 pilot 160 main and the NECJ needle at the 2nd clip position. yesterday I rode at about 5000 ft with the same setup and between 70-80 degrees. when I got home I pulled the plug and took a picture for you but can't attach it here. If your interested go to my FB or YT and I'll find a way to get it to you.

  • @tcskibike

    Ah be careful when you slap that seat back on, you missed the hooks under the middle of the seat and its hard to take it off after you put it on wrong.
    Love mine, on my fifth season no problems with OI! I may be getting old but front fork seems harsh.

  • @utdesertghost199
    @utdesertghost199 7 років тому +2

    BTW,
    Many find the jetting to be a little rich and therefore sluggish coming into the midrange. Alot of us (around my elevation 4500-10000 ft) have switched out the needle to the Suzuki NECJ with good results.

    • @pavementends2015
      @pavementends2015 7 років тому

      Phillip Bell So that needle works well at those elevations? Was under the impression that it's best below 2k feet. What clip (from top) are you set at?

    • @utdesertghost199
      @utdesertghost199 7 років тому +1

      Seth J.
      I've had it up to 10.5k this summer with a 158 main and 35 pilot and the needle on the second clip pos. Down closer to where I live I usually run about a 162 and a 38 but I usually ride before it gets above 80. and that's around 4500-6000.
      I'm hoping to hit the trails in this video Sunday and mybe play a little more with jetting.
      Next year I'll put a Lectron carb on it.

    • @pavementends2015
      @pavementends2015 7 років тому

      Phillip Bell
      So, 3rd clip on the needle around 5k feet?

    • @utdesertghost199
      @utdesertghost199 7 років тому +1

      Seth J.
      I'm no expert on jetting so the only advice I can give is what has worked for me so take it for what it's worth.
      If I'm running around or over 80 degrees mine is on the 2nd clip position. I check my plug and see how the throttle response feels. Stay a little on the rich side to be cautious until your comfortable with your changes. I change elevations soo often that it's never perfect for me. I'm planning on a Lectron carb next year to make things easier.

    I would like to see a long term review. To see if you have any of the problems I've both heard about, and experienced with Beta. I have a 2016 300 evo. The bike spent the first year going back and forth to the dealer for warranty work. Oil leaks, electrical shorting, transmission self destructing. Got so I was a afraid of what would go wrong next if I rode it. It's been a few months, and nothing but the front brake locking up occasionally has gone wrong. Keeping my fingers crossed. The dealers shop manager was pretty honest about the troubles he sees on these bikes. Until Beta makes a more reliable bike I doubt KTM has anything to worry about from Beta.

    • @pavementends2015
      @pavementends2015 7 років тому

      I've put 30 hours on my '17 300RR Race in the last 5 weeks. Only thing to fail so far was the stock DID chain (2 o-rings were bulged and eventually dropped off [yes I maintain my chain]). Will be replacing fork fluid soon and will see if rumors of premature wear are true. Else, it's already a well used bike on gnarly singletrack and has been very reliable.

    • @maximusmiles8435
      @maximusmiles8435 7 років тому

      That's good to hear. I only wish I had your luck. I know every brand has some horror stories. But when the service manager from a very reputable dealership says that Beta has some known issues and he thinks they should dump the brand. I tend to listen to the experts. Their shop did have a lot of Beta's in there for warranty repairs. I saw that with my own eyes. I only wish I would have gone to their shop before I spent the money.

    Sorry to ask lol but what is the weight of the rider in this video for stiffer springs on the byob. On the fence at 200lbs if i should do the same. Thank you for the video, straight to the point and informative

    • @rmatvmc
      @rmatvmc  7 років тому

      Weighs in around 240lbs before riding gear and we went with the .48 kg fork spring rate and the 5.6 kg shock spring rate. I would probably recommend going with the stiffer springs if you are in between spring rates. Thanks
