My Dad turned 70 this week. He's drank in pubs in Newcastle his whole life. His anecdotes revolve around the men he has drank with through his life, all linked to his job as a bricklayer. This song reminds me of him, of all the comedy giants and penniless heros and the men at the bar who he has drank with and are no longer here. Now he is housebound and struggles every night because of his own health but his anecdotes are as strong as they have ever been. I played this song to him for the first time a few weeks ago and he cried his little eyes out. It will always be my Dad's song now ❤
Fuck me mate that's beautiful man spend as much time with him as you can make him laugh and smile as many times as possible, take photos and videos of the good times anall mate all the best bro there's alot of beauty in the little things in life
There's something wrong here I'm 65 and love his music . I grew up listening to legends . This is one in the making . Well done Sam you have fans at my age too.
I'm almost sixty and I am amazed at the wealth of talent we have in Sam. I never ask for anything but this Christmas In have asked my kids for Sam's two albums, I'm proud to say they were not surprised.
Nothing wrong with appreciating good music from other generations. I’m 29 but have listened to the likes of Queen, Bowie, Pink Floyd, Dire straights and many more since I was a young kid. I’m also into lots of modern bands and artists like Sam Fender. My Dad was a guitarist when he was younger and can be quite snobby about modern music, and yes the charts are usually full of shite. But there are plenty of other modern artists like Sam Fender who I think he would appreciate if he gave them a chance. At the end of the day if it’s good music it’s good music and no matter what generation people are from, we should enjoy it all.
His ability to take and incredibly difficult subject and turn it into an uplifting song is amazing. Your heart breaks but you end up euphoric. This boy needs to be celebrated and cherished.
Oh jesus fucking christ. As someone who battles depression every single day... this is unbelievable. It's so moving, and lyrical, and gorgeous, and sad, and hopeful. Sam Fender is a megastar in waiting

(last stanza of Dylan Thomas's 'Do not go gentle into that good night') Thanks for recontextualising this poem into a beautiful piece of music Sam. You really are a legend.
What an amazing talented young man. His family should be proud. My bro died and this song makes me think of him and everyone else this year without their loved ones. This should be this Christmas number one!!!!

When a song hits you so hard the hairs on your body stand up a shiver runs down your spine as someone dances on your grave you know the artist is beyond anything you have ever seen or heard. This one hits hard losing two siblings by their own hands because of a constant grey cloud it hurts it hurts because all they had to do was hold out there hands and we would have snatched them up and pulled them away from their dying light. I uprooted 27 years ago from Teesside a cold damp run down part of the country misery on every corner but with a heart as big as the moon to find work and I made it 270 miles away mom and pops brother sister all gone now 3 of us left scattered like leaves and we don't speak. Someone asked me would you go back and change your life and I can't answer if I hadn't moved I wouldn't have met the love of my life or had my fabulous kids. However my roots are still there but my heart is here. I LOVE SAM he can reach me in places that no one else has in feelings that I thought were gone.
Imagine being a 49 year old dad of two grown up boys who has tears rolling down his face listening to and watching this video. Well I don’t have to imagine!
I keep saying… what we’re hearing now is a legend at the start of his career. Imagine how amazing he’s going to get as he broadens his horizons and doesn’t have to keep the commercial people happy. He’s an incredible, beautiful talent. This song is mind blowing.
I absolutely adore this song. I adore the entire album. But this one really stands out. For anyone who’s been relieved to see the dawn, for the bravery to stare straight in the face of a subject that so many dare not broach, to be so honest, so raw, so pure. And then to wrap it up with a sound straight out of E-Street. Sam Fender: I love music. You are by far the most powerful thing I’ve seen happen to it in quarter of a century at least. You are a genius, lad.
@@badassgenius3810 'I Know the End' by phoebe Bridgers doesnt have the same concept but it shares a similar feeling of a build up of emotions and the sound is in the same playing field. Dead Boys by Sam has been said by fans and Sam himself to be a precursor to this. He sees this as the more hopeful sequel to dead boys, in fact the opening verse references DB. It seems like the narrator is exhausted and regrets how they treated their loved one but it doesn't have the same upturn by the end. I tried so many times to end my life in my late teens and early 20s and struggled with depression and anxiety. This song really struck a profound chord with me. In my 40s I’ve finally found peace and realised I’m glad I didn’t succeed in destroying myself. Things do get better and there is help and support out there ❤️🩹
Thanks for posting this message. In the depths of despair one can’t imagine a life beyond that point or anything getting better. We all need to be as aware as we can be of those suffering to ‘keep them going’ until the blackness fades. But they keep it from us… I know of a 17-year-old who threw herself out of a window and her final words to her mother as she lay dying on the ground were ‘I didn’t mean to do it’. So tragic.

Such a beautiful song and great visualizer to it ❤
Been listening to more of Sam's music recently. Such a beautiful song that reminds me of Sigur Ros
Beautiful art. We need artists like Sam more than ever. Thank you Sam foraging against the darkness.
Perfect song. Masterpiece
I can't wait for him to tour the USA!! I am obsessed- he is so so talented!!
This has to be the best song in the album. It’s got me tearing up with CHILLS.
I tried so many times to end my life in my late teens and early 20s and struggled with depression and anxiety. This song really struck a profound chord with me. In my 40s I’ve finally found peace and realised I’m glad I didn’t succeed in destroying myself. Things do get better and there is help and support out there ❤️🩹
Well said
Thanks for posting this message. In the depths of despair one can’t imagine a life beyond that point or anything getting better. We all need to be as aware as we can be of those suffering to ‘keep them going’ until the blackness fades. But they keep it from us…
I know of a 17-year-old who threw herself out of a window and her final words to her mother as she lay dying on the ground were ‘I didn’t mean to do it’. So tragic.
This album has truly came out at the perfect time. Something we can all relate to. It’s a great time to be a no.1 fan! Proud is an understatement.
Just simply awesome. Not many songs give you goosebumps like this
A bard for our times, Sam is.
