I find it funny how Disney demanded that Fantasia was pulled from store shelves since it was so bad and broken.
And yet they keep shitting out bad Star Wars movies... and Marvel movies if you want to be honest with yourself.
@@MyFanMadeFilms That's subjective.
@@ItsCosmoTewulf yeah the star wars movies aren't that bad at all (yes I get it, they have repeated plots from the old movies, but that doesn't make them bad)
@@TheRetroGamerBayum I wouldn’t say they’re exactly the same 😅
@@BaranoffIsaacwhat?😅
Darkwing Duck on the Turbografx is pretty terrible. That might be a good candidate if you ever do a follow up!
There’s also a Talespin game on the exact same console, which is arguably the worse version to the Genesis one.
Larry Bundy Jr it is shite alright; not only have I played it, but AVGN has said all I feel on it
Thanks for letting us know. I think the Roger Rabbit game also counts.
What kind of fucked-up duck can't fucking duck?
So today we’re looking at a mallard of malarkey, an awful avian, and a terror that flaps backward into madness as I say BUT... HELLO YOU...
It's so ironic that Fantasia; a game based on a music-themed movie, has such a god awful soundtrack.
Also so glad someone finally talked about it, that game was awful! One of the worst games I owned as a kid.
As someone who considers Fantasia to be the best film Disney ever made, I too am righteously pissed off.
Austin Eruption also covered it, but again, Nothing on UA-cam can do its heinous nature justice.
The Fantasia music part made my dogs freak out barking so if that doesn't say anything I don't know what does
It's honestly a shame. One of the things Fantasia is known for, racist centaur depictions aside, was the beautiful classical pieces set to animation. Turning that into the compressed chiptunes of the Sega Genesis, turns it into an ear-bleeding mess!
Poor dogos
@@waterwaifu612 Barking at bad games based on amazing movies, which had an amazing soundtrack, which the game lacked; and I'm also hoping the movie didn't have racist centaur deceptions. Would kind of ruin the experience, you know, dude/lady? Are you actually made of water?
LMFAO THIS IS ONE OF THE FUNNIEST THINGS I HAVE EVER READ! No offense tho, sell that fucking game if you haven't already.
Who said tailspin was bad? Loved that game as a kid.
Tailspin NES... forgot about the Sega one...
I don’t remember if it was Lion King or Aladdin but apparently one of them used the Genesis sound chip so well that the film composers congratulated the developers.
Tedious Totoro It was definatly Aladdin. The Genesis version had a 16 bit version of every song in the movie.
It was the Lion King, Hans Zimmerman was very impressed with how well the game developers made his score and music sound on one of the ports or versions of the Lion King.
Somebody get me a Keyblade so I can banish these bad Disney games to the darkness!
I would get a duel disk and send them to the shadow realm.
Maybe use thinner from Mickey paint brush instead

To be honest, Tarzan Untamed was a pretty good time killer.
The only things that really brings it down are some impossible jumps that really just depends on luck whether you fall in the non-slideable pieces of environment later on, the damn progress stopping collectibles (that actually also killed my run when I was little, since I had no idea what to do since english wasn't my forte just yet) and God forbid those ridiculous radical sport stages (which are somehow both the most fun and most painful parts of the experience depending of which).
It is otherwise a pretty solid platformer with lackluster bosses.
I remember playing it when i was still in good terms with my parents, good memories.
I still own the GameCube version of that game to this day. I never knew that it was on other consoles but as far as I could remember, this and Sonic Adventure 2 Battle were probably the first games I remember playing on the platform. Many good times were spent on that little black lunchbox.😌
The other tarzan game is good
If there's any genre that doesn't play well with the Genesis sound hardware, it would be classical.
Dynamite Headdy has the Nutcracker song....
I miss when there was a plethora of bad licensed games
R-really? Why? Why would you ever *want* an abundance of bad licensed games? It’s not like they really contribute anything to the industry/market.
@@ShermTank7272 but it's still fun to laugh at how bad they are. Although i still have PTSD from the incredibles on ps2....
There are still ones that exist. The recent SpongeBob games are bad (Plankton's Robotic Revenge and SpongeBob HeroPants)
They're all on the app store, now.
THATS GOOD.
Kingdom hearts.
Epic Mickey.

I absolutely love that you acknowledged that Adventures in the Magic Kingdom, while not a great game, had awesome music, because it was done by the legendary Yoko Shimomura who went on to do Kingdom Hearts. Go figure.
This was a great video, Gilly, and honestly, with how many Bad Disney Games there are, I'm kinda hoping this video has a sequel on the back burner. Or maybe even go for some Good Disney Games, I did like that you mentioned a few you personally enjoyed in this video.
Fun fact: in Mickey Mousecapade Minnie is invulnerable to enemies, unless Mickey takes a hit. You can maneuver Minnie up ladders to deal with some bosses and enemies.
how is no one talking about gilly's almost spot-on impression of goofy at 3:33

My best guess? I feel like they might have wanted to add a base to the castle in the background, because it kind of looks like its steps just go into the lake. So they either added the collision and forgot the graphic, or they had already added a graphic, decided to remove it, and then forgot the collision. Either way, it's clear that nobody cared when developing it.
As an aside, one pretty decent Genesis game that also stars Mickey is "Mickey Mania". The game itself isn't super special but it showed off some impressive animation for the Genesis at the time, and it was made by the same people who did Sonic 3D Blast, another impressive game for the system.
GameHut did a "how we implemented all the pseudo-3D Mickey Mania stage gimmicks", if you weren't aware yet! (It's by one of the main programmers for Mickey Mania and Sonic 3D Blast, the guy even made a deluxe 3D Blast version that not only restored Super Sonic but added time attack trophies!)

@@nitroturbo7869 I do get that, still a weird way to put it
Mickey Mousecapades is a lot easier when you learn that Minnie is invincible and has her own projectile weapon, so if you can get her up the ladder by herself, she can just whale on the bosses and cheese the game. 😆
Mickey Mouse on the NES is basically just even more hardcore cuphead
I played 'Fantasia' as a kid. I couldn't get past the second stage either. I never got to Mussorgsky's 'Bald Mountain' my favorite sequence from the film.
Years later when I played 'Kingdom Hearts(I)', out of the blue, I start hearing that Mussorgsky theme as Sora is floating down and only after that seeing that great Bald Mountain boss...That was one of sweetest moments in games ever for me. I have subsequently watched videos of the pathetic Genesis' Bald Mountain'. I Didn't miss much as a kid.
Damn...Tarzan Untamed is pretty nostalgic for me. I love the bad ending.
3:40 Kingdom Hearts prequel we never knew.
Interestingly, Adventures in the Magic Kingdom was the first composing gig for Yoko Shimomura, the composer behind the OSTs sor Kingdom Hearts, Secret of Mana, Super Mario RPG and Final Fantasy XV.
*AND MARIO AND LUIGI SERIES, HOW COULD YOU NOT MENTION THOSE?*
As far as games based on Pixar films, the Toy Story and Cars games are surprisingly good with one or two exceptions.
Also in TaleSpin, I actually thought Kit's name was Kid. But as a little kid, there was a time when I thought Bert from Sesame Street was named Bird, despite there already being Big Bird. Just goes to show I well I paid attention to names!
Why didn't they release an Adventures in EPCOT? I know that I for one would LOVE to play a theme park management sim where the goal is to allow beloved parts of the park to fall into disrepair until they have to be replaced, then replacing them with something that everyone hates, and overall the end goal is to shit all over the dreams of your company's founder.
+AortaPlatinum I kinda want to play that game.
@@FlyingDuckMan360 Yeah no joke, I would actually friggin adore an official Disney Park Management Sim where you get to run any of the Disney parks on Earth, starting either on opening day, or on a random day around the time the game was released, having to deal with both the poor and genius decisions of Eisner. Plus it would be Disney Parks merch that isn't a mug or a shirt or a picture frame. I swear as long as I live, my EPCOT Center 35th Anniversary car tag will be proudly displayed on my desk next to the plastic reusable Mission SPACE ticket I really probably wasn't supposed to take with me.

The wakeboard portion of the Tarzan game really reminds of sssssam portion of rayman 2 and what do ya know both are Ubisoft games.
Rayman 2 was 1999 and Tarzan untamed was 2001, how did they make a more shit similar type of level 2 years later.
Ubisoft has made more surprising titles but I wish I could tell you one
I've actually never heard ANYONE say Magic Kingdom was a bad game. But you do have some points. The five npcs you need to talk to mostly ask some pretty wellknown Disney trivia, and for ones you dont know, well theres absolutely no penalty for answering it wrong, so you get to learn stuff too!
Now I want to see AVGN tackle Tailspin for the Genesis! Also, I keep thinking of Dex the Swede's video whenever I see Wildcat's mouth movement.
+Cyberbrickmaster1986 MrBaffaCake reviewed the TaleSpin Sega game. You can see the review here:
ua-cam.com/video/4iLuq-8TTLE/v-deo.html
But yeah, I wouldn't mind seeing AVGN (and possibly Mike Matei if they do a James & Mike episode on it) take on the game.
Finally another human who knows about dex the swede
I feel like if i saw this dude on the street hed be smoking a cigarette outside a music venue that host mostly metal bands
Game grumps played Mickey Mousecapade 5 years ago. Absolute gem
I played Mickey Mousecapades a lot as a kid until I could easily beat it. Cheesing Minnie is the key
Wow, that Tarzan game looked really bad for a Gamecube game. It's a shame, too, since a Tarzan game with really smooth movement controls could be extremely fun to play. I imagine airborne control and movement similar to Spiderman 2 where you can string together sliding on branches, swinging on vines, and vaulting over tree branches. I remember playing the N64 Tarzan game that was a 2D platformer. It was a standard Disney movie tie-in game.
I'm amazed at how terrible the Fantasia game plays compared to really great Disney platformers on the Genesis like Mickey's Castle of Illusion and World of Illusion.
That leaf released invisible tendrils that just gave you a deadly bear hug
So whatever dev made the Genesis Tale Spin game thought "this IP is basically an animated adaptation of 'Tales of the Gold Monkey' so we should make a 2D platformer instead of having the player, like... fly the plane."
Recipe for success, there.
+AlhazaredsGamingGoo You actually do get to fly the Sea Duck in the game, that is, if you can make it past the second boss (Mad Dog). The game alternates between having platforming and shoot em' up levels. Bit of advice, though, play as Baloo when you make it to the plane levels, because that gives you free control of the Sea Duck. The Sea Duck moves by itself if you play as Kit, causing it to miss power-ups necessary to beat the levels. Thankfully, this was fixed in the Game Gear port.
Now I really wanna hear Goofy say "well fuck if I know".
I’m not gonna lie, Disney Skate Adventure was my mini tony hawk
I dunno about the TaleSpin game for the Genesis. My brother and I used to play through the 2-player-mode a couple times as 8-year-olds and while I remember us getting stuck a lot, we still beat the game somehow.
Oh yeah I remember Adventures in the Magic Kingdom.
I never beat it when I was a kid
3:33 When someone asks you on why are we still here?
Best Disney game ever, Kingdom Hearts.
Agreed.
Harmony Hope4357 no lies here. 100% fact
the best disney game is toy story 3 for xbox 360
@Demonic Chara I won't, Mickey is best mouse.
Also hasn't played Epic Mickey, don't kill meh.
This is one of the times where I wish I could afford a next gen console
I used to play Mousecapade and Magic Kingdom on an emulator when I was a kid. They were absolutely terrible.
12:07 I was waiting for sonic to slide down the road while crashing through cars
Fantasia used to legitimately scare me as a kid...I had to mute the tv lol
i can’t remember the name of it now, but i had a mediocre Disney game on the 3DS. it involved fighting in certain Disney worlds (i think Alice In Wonderland, Cinderella and Aladdin) and for some reason, a cafe aspect. it was boring as hell after a few hours, as after a while i just couldn’t pass any stages for some reason. i would go back to it, but it counts as a North American game and my 3DS is a European one.
It is a shame that they screwed up a adaptation of Fantasia one of the best short movies Disney ever Made
I disagree. Adventures in Magic Kingdom isn't bad. But it is _unrefined_ .
Rough around the edges and so. I think everyone has fond / nightmarish memories regarding the Pirates of the Caribbean stage and / or the haunted house.
Fascinating and great, but hard.
For Mousecapade, you have to have Minnie climb the ladder since she's immune to everything and have her damage Pete.
I have fond memories of owning next to zero games for my Mega Drive, one of them being Fantasia. I grew to love it and think back on it fondly.
Ubisoft games have always been a collect a bunch of shitathons, even to this day, except they added the climb all the towers aspect too, i swear all there games are practically the same...
In the wild west early days of AVGN and Irate Gamer, there was an excellent video review of the first Mickey Mouse game here. It disappeared years back and always wondered what happened.
3:34 lmfao. Well, this won me over. You just earned yourself a new subscriber.
Earned a sub! Love this :D You remind me a bit of early Normal Boots
To defeat Pete in Mouscapade you're supposed to stand as close as you possibly can to him without him touching you, then his knives will pass right over you and you can shoot him til the cows come home.
The music for Adventures in the Magic Kingdom was good due to that was done by the same person who made the Kingdom Hearts soundtracks. When looking her up I was shook to discover she made the music for that game and now part of me hopes as DLC that music remixed might show up in KH based on the attention/world and location entered as a call back to her career.
5:15 Objection! France has an equivalent to the AVGN, and years prior this video, he made a pretty accurate critique of Fantasia, talking about many things you omitted.
I'll give you most of these, but "Adventures in the Magic Kingdom" was a great game! We loved it at my house.
In that first Mickey Mouse game, if you only saw Minnie as an annoyance then you're playing the game wrong.
Disney Extreme Skate is by far my most favorite Disney game and game for the GameCube, either that or the haunted mansion game
Fantasia's music sounded so cursed...
“No need to rush mon” what the hell was that 😂😂😂
Goofy standing like “ fyuck if I know” 😂😂😂
Fantasia was one of the first games I ever played. It's a miracle I still enjoy video games today as a result.
I had TaleSpin for the Game Boy! From what I can see, it was a near identical port. I loved that game, it was really fun once I got the hang of it.
Oh my god 13:13 I never thought somebody would bring up that piece of dogs it I have memories of me and my cousin ripping on the game
5:35 thats because the genesis uses a Yamaha fm chip and fm is a monster to work with.
Hah, that mickey game! I played a bootleg (argentina back then had mostly hacks and bootlegs), I beated it!, I recall for the first boss, and the pete one you end, the trick is abusing minnie's somewhat crappy 'follows your input' to make her climb the ladder, while mickey remains down, minnie is able to shoot, adn is invincible, at least to enemy attacks, so all you do is slowly chip at the boss xD
TaleSpin sounds like the name of an Undertale AU where everybody flies planes.
It's sad that Konami games are more often than not low quality just like their Disney Skateboarding game.
First time watching, I absolutely loved this video.
It’s like what if u take a kid to the playground and break both his kneecaps then say alright have fun
There are good Disney games, there are! DuckTales, Chip N' Dale Rescue Rangers, Castle of Illusion, QuackShot, Aladdin, The Lion King!
Another one you should have added to the list is Gravity Falls: Legend of the Gnome Gemulets for the Nintendo 3DS. As someone who hates the show for being so Un-Disney-like (deal with it), I suspected the game would fall into the "The Problem With Licensed Games" page on TvTropes... and I was right. The game has incredibly monotonous gameplay, music that sounds more fitting for a western, boring boss battles that are blatant rehashes/reskins of each other, and the game itself being far too easy and beatable in approximately five hours. It's also very low on the creepiness factor (which, in my opinion, is a blessing in disguise).
Also, if you watched the opening cutscene of the TaleSpin Sega game, you'd know that you're supposed to collect ten cargo crates from different places around the world within seven days, as you're in a competition for a city contract with Shere Khan Industries. Later stages also have different music, but you haven't made it that far.
As a fan of Gravity Falls even I kinda have to agree with what you said about the game tbh
Did... Did Tarzan just break a gator's jaw in an E rated game??
The opening for the mickey skateboard game reminds me of the opening to sonic riders
I know what happened in Fantasia with the collision. Mickey decided to be Jesus and walk on water, but then he lost confidence when he saw the leaf and died.
I don't understand how a 16 bit game can be WORSE than its 8-bit counterpart
It's truly the end of an era, as there's no Toy Story 4 videogame in sight.
Disney just throwing its name on things to sell it and make profit even though the project wasn't finished??
*Say it ain't so*
You can beat Pete easily by getting Minnie up there alone because she can shoot but can´t take damage, lol.
Killer- I mean disney has already touc-claimed this video.
I Had Tarzan Untamed On GameCube And I Loved It Extreme Skate Adventure
God, I heard about Fantasia from an archive of that ANCIENT DarknesstheCurse review, made back when vitriolic anger was the norm, and everyone thought literally screaming at the game was hilarious…
Ah, I see this one isn't blinking. Good work.
There we go!
My sister and I loved Mickey Mousecapade, even if we never could get past the second level. It was one of the few NES games with Co-op
I could never beat the second level of the Tailspin game on the genesis when i was a kid because it was so hard and confusing.
I’ve Watched Several of Your Disney Video Game Videos,I Really Like Them,But How Come I’ve Never Seen You Review my Favorite Disney GameCube Game,PK:Out of The Shadows?
TaleSpin for the Genesis was amazing!
The Genesis Talespin that I remember was definitely intended for 2 players. You had to work together for all kinds of puzzles in the platforms. Baloo can give Kit a boost to reach higher areas and other weird stuff. It definitely wasn't great.
Capcom is the company that gave Disney some of its best games outside of Kingdom Hearts. They learned a lot after Mousecapades. I really want to play their old Little Mermaid again. I wish they had added it to the Disney Afternoon Collection.
True, but the game gear version…………
@@ShadowKirbo0 I haven't played that one. I've played the NES, and SEGA Genesis titles.

IM FINALLY WATCHING THIS ARE YOU HAPPY NOW UA-cam
Throughout the Talespin NES segment the level you played for most of it was basically Strikeman’s stage from Megaman 10 before Megaman 10 existed
Ah. Dick's Sporting Goods.
6:01 This may also be blamed on the GEMS sound driver. The ease of use led to a lot of lazy soundtracks, as it was also stated to be more diverse than it truly was. The Genesis has a lot of sound drivers, like SMPS (used by Sega in Japan), amongst others.
