That is awesome! Welcome aboard! Here is a more current video I made with Jose where he goes into detail on the RNE Program and other options for residency ua-cam.com/video/XH9lxrAehSU/v-deo.html Good Luck with everything!
You can overstay your visa and hire a facilitator to do regularization process. I heard it's about 900 us dollars to pay for the temporary residency and penalty fee for overstaying. Plus 200-300 us dollars to facilitator. You must stay in Mexico until your visa stamp expires though then apply for regularization.
I thank you for this video Jose! I love Mexico and want to live there. I entered Mexico in June 2021 and will be returning this September. I'm bring my son with me in September. We both need temporary residencies. I may qualify for the RNE program due to being Mexico during 2021. This will be my son's first time in the country. We both have decided the US is a sinking ship and it's time to get off the ship. I'm a licensed Social Worker and my son is a licensed Nurse. We are looking to get out of the US. I will be reaching out to the lawyer in your video. Thanks again for this video!!!!
Do you have any updates on your progress with residency? I am currently living in Chiapas. I have no intentions on moving back to the US and have very little money. Any update or advice would be great if you have the time. Thank you!
It amazes me how many people collecting social security here in the states won't consider Latin American countries. Many can't afford to do anything but struggle, so they book themselves into a retirement community and live a very sub-par life. We've all heard about elderly eating cat food.
I agree it is very sad to see that, but the reality is that once you get to a certain age moving to another country seems as daunting as moving to the Moon. We must also take that into consideration. That is why I try to provide as much helpful information for those out there that can still do the move. What upsets me even more is how much wrong information there is out there about this topic. Hope this video is able to help all those who need to hear this info. Thanks again for sharing
@@JoseArteagaTravels I think it will be more and more helpful as time goes on. I think you will have many more subs, because people are seeing how tough it is to live here. Going to buy meat at the store costs a small fortune. I know people making over 100k a year living like plebs. I am thankful for your info, every month closer to my move to Mexico. No more 9 to 5, it isn't for me anymore. At the end of 2023 I put it all behind.
This is such a good topic! And so relevant as I’m searching this info daily right now before I leave next month. I’m so sad the sound is so poor I can barely understand
That is true but when you actually go to the consulate they are all very different and do not always stick to those numbers or the other requirements they ask for. They all have a mind of their own which is why you see so many people out there that go "Consulate shopping" to find the best fit for them.
Great video Jose, me gusto muchisimo. I’m retired now, not 65 yet but plant to collect my S.S. Benefits at 62. Would I qualify for retirement residency? Or do I have to be 65
Thank you! It is whatever the Mexican Law says, So whatever Jose Novelo said in the video. Remember you are getting your residency through retiring in Mexico so it is whatever age they consider that not the US. Hope that helps!
There is no age requirement to either visit Mexico on an FMM (tourist permit) or to apply for temporary or permanent residency. You only need to qualify for financial solvency or meet the requirements for the regularization (commonly referred to as the Amnesty program). I started my residency pre-Covid when the only way was through financial solvency. I was 58. You say you are retired, not 65? and plan on collecting SS at 62. I assume that means you are younger than 62. If you have visited Mexico pre covid, 2020 or before you can TRY the regularization process but no guarantee it will work. Depending on the state I would say 75/25% chance it will. But you say you are retired so I am going to assume you have a reasonable income or a decent net worth. The sooner you apply for residency the better as the financial solvency requirements have gone up 20-25% each year since 2018. When I applied the monthly income required was about $1200 per month or $85,000 in liquid investments. Today it is close to $4000 a month and $400,000 in liquid investments. The financial solvency is based on the Mexican minimum daily wage. It has gone up 20-25% each year since 2020 hence the drastic increase. Also right now the dolar is weak against the peso so depending on what exchange rate the consulate you choose uses it varies.
I actually had Jose Novelo on the show not too long ago and he has updated everything and answered your questions. You can check it out here ua-cam.com/users/livelN4ZAS5HAb8?feature=share
One thing I noticed watching your video. You keep referring to the FMM as a "Tourist VISA". It is not a VISA. It is a tourist PERMIT. Yes Mexico does issue tourist VISAS for people who come from a country that is not in the international visitor agreement. South Korea or Cuba for example. As an Immigrant from the US who first came on an FMM (tourist permit) then a consulate visit, then temporary resident, now permanent resident I help a lot of people come as expats or immigrants (you do know the difference) and the term "tourist visa" is misused a lot. And it causes a lot of confusion among people trying to move here. Please edit your video and understand the terminology. Yes it is important because if you talk to a government official and use the term "VISA" they will think you are working on the temporary/permanent process. Also your information about entering Mexico is in most cases incorrect. Each INM office seems to handle a little different, but for the most part you must have entered Mexico at least once BEFORE Covid. 2020. They may accept other dates in other states but in Sinaloa if you flew in in December 2022 and let your FMM expire you would not qualify for the current program, frequently referred to as the "Amnesty Program" Likewise if you entered Mexico in 2023 AND they extend the program you would not qualify. You must have entered in 2020 or before. Again as I say each INM office handles things a bit different. Afterall, it is Mexican Government, which makes US government look like a fine oiled machine. But one thing has not changed. Since the change from FM1's, FM2's, FM3's, the old immigration system, the INM officer granting your entry into Mexico has ALWAYS had discretion on the number of days they grant. I will commend you however on suggesting several times that you talk to a professional who is experienced in the state you are moving too. I have vast experience and have helped many move to Sinaloa, but would be just taking my best shot at helping someone through the process in another state.
No you need to be over 65 as we said in the video. But as we also say all consulates are different and some are less strict than others so ask around to see what is the best fit for you
Hello, I had TR until it lapsed in 2020. I went back once as a tourist last year, but I didn't know about this regularization program. I want to re-activate my TR but I'm in the USA now. If I'm eligible for both, should I re-start TR in the USA or is it better to come to Mexico and go for regularization instead?
You can only apply for the RNE program from within Mexico at INM. If you speak Spanish you might be able to do it on your own. But if not then Jose Novelo would be more than happy to help you out. I would consult with him or INM though since you already had a TR they might give you a Permanent Residency. Good luck!
Hi thanks for your most valuable information, I am interested to settle in Mexico as an Australian citizen, is this same rule apply to Australian? let me know, please
Great question! Honestly from what I have heard from others they don't even care if you speak the language or not at the consulate. But in the Immigration office in Mexico it is ALL only in Spanish. I could be wrong about the consulate but regardless it is in your best interest to learn some Spanish if you are going to be living in a Spanish speaking country to make the experience so much better. Hope that helps!
Excellent presentation. One Question: I should qualify; however, I'm not sure when my huge house-property will sell here in AZ., so I'll be held back until the house sells. I'd like to apply for temporary residency NOW; however, I'm uncertain when I'll be able to live in Mexico full time; often, I'm a partial year resident now.
Thank you! Not sure what the question was but I'm going to assume you are asking if you can get Temporary residency now. Sure you can get it whenever you want! Hope that helps!
After you get your temporary residency, you are not required to live in Mexico for any link of time. You can come once a year and spend a week, the time to get your residency card and come back when you are ready to move. There is no requirement on how many days people need to spend in Mexico after getting residency. I would advise you to start the process right away because every year, the consulate raises the minimum fir economic solvency. Do not wait.
You can do a lot! You can watch my videos for FREE for more information on what you can do to make it a reality or you can book a 1 on 1 personalized Consultation and we can talk through a video call and I can help you to the best of my abilities on what you could do to make your early retirement to Mexico a realizty. on this day 8-15-23 approximately 11:10 am - My question is what about walking in and out if you decide to live in Ensenada do you go through all the same as people who fly ?
Great question! Your best bet is to join the many Facebook Expat groups out there and ask others who have gone through the process recently what they recommend.
Sadly that program says I'd need a FMM expired before 2021 and I'm currently in the US and have never been to Mexico prior. I'd do visa runs but have heard they aren't allowing them anymore. Even the president there recently announced they're cracking down on ppl who do visa runs. I don’t even meet the financial requirements for students in mexico. Feeling pretty trapped here, homeless without enough money to survive in the U.S home of the homeless and starving not free country 😪
Great question! There are 32 States in all of Mexico and each one very different. We don't have a full list but you can just inquire with Jose Novelo or ask whoever is helping you in the state you are in right now.
I would think a letter of retirement from the government is only if you were in government service? Since I am not, not sure how I would get this letter. Very informative video. Thank you.
I will have Jose Novelo on Next Thursday's Livestream where he will clarify and answer that question. The letter they are asking for is basically a statement from your Government saying that you receive a monthly retirement check from the US Government. That is what Mexican law says. There is no minimum requirement to qualify. But each agent will use their own disggresion and judgment on what they think is enough. For some agents/offices a letter is plenty, for some they want a minimum amount. This is why so many people looking to get residency out of a consulate have to shop around until they find the right consulate to approve them. Hope this information helps.
I am living in Mexico more then 5 years, I am married with Mexican woman and have Mexican kid, I want Mexican Citizenship but I can not speak Spanish language properly that's why I can not pass citizenship exam about history and culture of Mexico in Spanish language
We just spent 4.5 months in Mexico for the first time. We arrived in Nov 23/22. And have now returned back home. I would like to start off with temporary residency, I am 66yrs old and my wife is 63. So if I understand correctly I would have to go to the nearest Mexican consulate in Canada and apply. My wife and myself are collecting Canada pension, although my wife is only 63. So my question is should I only apply and get our marriage certificate translated to Spanish? I was confused about the marriage certificate translation? And lastly what documents do I need to bring on application to the consulate. Thank You Mike B
You have a few options. If you at 65 get approved then you can come to Mexico and then your wife can apply through Family structure since you are both married she gets residency because you have residency. The Translation of documents is done in Mexico with a profesional. Remember each consulate will approve people at their disgresion. If that one does not work you might have to try another one. For more information on what documentation you need please check on the consulates website. And to check what you need in Mexico check the website of the local immigration office you want to use. All consulates and all immigration offices work with their own interpretation of the laws. Hope that helps if you need any more help please feel free to contact Jose Novelo directly
Yes it's all in spanish.if a person don't know Spanish it can be difficult.but anyone reading these comments looking for information and seeking to visit mexico for any reason should know spanish.i don't know all of the Spanish language but i do know it.
Well I've allowed my visa to expire going on almost 2 years if not more..financially I can afford to live here..however I'm not married to a Mexican..I refused to get a vaccine as well..this is why i'm here in the first place..!
Awesome thanks for sharing! Hopefully you can get your visa situation fixed now that you know you can do so without leaving the country. The longer you wait the more difficult it will become. Try to resolve that problem as soon as you can.
@@nynatv1951 You still need to have a valid tourist visa in order to get married. You also need a new current birth certificate and an apostille for yourself in order to be able to get married. I speak from personal experience. Good luck with everything boss!
If you have a temporary visa in MX... When your four years of temporary is up, can you get permanent residency without taking a test of Español, historia, etc....?
By "letter from the government" will your Letter of proof of SS payments do? I'd also like to know what the Mexican law is that allows this, in case the consulate wants to give me a hard time about it. I want to move to MX so badly, but with the cost of living and wages going up, I will never qualify by income.
Yes the letter we speak of is the letter of proof of SS Payments. Here is a link to the law www.diputados.gob.mx/LeyesBiblio/pdf/LMigra.pdf But at the end of the day what we were trying to say is that basically every consulate has a mind of its own and choose to follow and interpret the laws how they see fit. Which is the frustrating part for many who can not rely on what is actually written in the law books but instead on the whim of a government employee. This is why so many speak of "Shopping around" for consulates. Some are more strict and others more lenient. Good luck with everything! Hope this information helps!
@@JoseArteagaTravelsdo you have another link that works? I tried the link on my pc and phone and nothing opens. I even tried using a VPN and that still didn't work. Thanks
Well then you can go the traditional route and get your residency at a consulate. But these days the best advice is to get your residency through the RNE program. You can find out more info in this video ua-cam.com/video/XH9lxrAehSU/v-deo.html
Great question! I would check out this video and see if you qualify for the RNE program ua-cam.com/video/XH9lxrAehSU/v-deo.html You might have to contact Jose Novelo directly for more information.
So are you saying if you are over 65 you do not have to have the minimum income required by the consulate in the U.S. And as long as you can prove you are 65 and social security is paying you a monthly income your mexican counsulate will approve a retirement visa.
Yes according to Mexican Law that is correct, but as we mentioned in the video each consulate is different and might require more than what the law says. If that is the case and you do not meet the requirements they ask for then you must find another consulate that will follow the law as it is written.
What consulates in Mexico are the most lenient for getting Temp Residency? CDMX? I hear SMA is too tough. I want to come this year with a short Visa and apply inside Mexico for a Temp Res under RNE:) I will be 70 years old w/ Social Security only but it doesn't meet the current solvency req.
All Consulates are Outside of Mexico. When you are in Mexico immigration issues are done at INM which is the Mexican immigration office. If you want to see if you qualify for the RNE program please contact Jose Novelo directly for more information
Did I hear you correctly? I could have moved to Mx in Dec 2022 currently on 180day and I visited Aug 2022 then I qualify for the visa not having to prove my income? 😳 wow I thought I had to have visited during or before 2020.
@@JoseArteagaTravels yes, others were marry a Mexican citizen, adopt Mexican child, etc. buy property etc. but not really realistic or wanted for most on the onset.
Hello! I haven't been to Mexico for several years now, and when I went, I never had to get a stamp. (Used a border crossing card). To enter Mexico now, I need a passport, and an FMM, do I need proof of any vaccinations?
Thanks for sharing! I think back in 2008 or somewhere around there is when they changed it to the way it is now. No you do not need any proof of vacations just your passport
My passport expired, so my previous stamp was in the old passport. The new one arrived December 3, 2023. I can’t show the stamp because you turn in your expired one to get a new one. Can the program still work? I am 74, retired with social security and a small pension. They equal $2000 a month.
Yes I am pretty sure you will be fine. Either way you should watch this updated video I did with Jose about how to get your residency with the way things are currently ua-cam.com/video/XH9lxrAehSU/v-deo.html
Thank you! The program is called the RNE program. You can find out more detailed information in this more current video ua-cam.com/video/XH9lxrAehSU/v-deo.html
So I went on vacation in 2019 for a week with my wife. And I got that FFM card, but when I left they took it back. So since I was there in 2019 for a week, do I still qualify? I’m back in the US now.
@@JoseArteagaTravels that’s awesome! I heard someone say on a Facebook page that you need to have stayed 180 days to qualify as well. So I got confused. So my stamp on my passport in enough proof then. Also I had two kids since then. Do they need cards? Ones two and ones two months old
@Jose, i never thought about it before but how long can one be in mexico before you start getting taxed? And if you open a bank account dont you have to report it to the U.S. or they will fine you 10k a year you dont report. So in essence you are having to pay taxes in 2 countries😐
With the influx of US or Canadian citizens doing this, I’m sure the visa standards will change to where tax, healthcare and no longer allowing nomadic nor retirement visas.
Thank you so much for this information. Two questions, if you don't mind: If you qualify for the temporary residency based on your income, you have to renew it after one year, correct? Do you have to show that your income qualifies again when you renew it? How long can you renew it for; 3 years? So, after 3 more years, do you have to show your income if you want to change it to permanent residency or are you good to go because you've been there for 4 years? 🙂
I honestly have no idea I dont think you have to show them again since you would be renewing at a Mexican Immigration office in Mexico. Maybe someone in the audience can help answer this
Hey I'm a Brit living in UK, over 65 years with state (and private) pensions and looking to relocate to Mexico. So from this I understand I need to go to the Mexican consulate in London (obviously get an appointment) with proof of state pension, is that correct? Thanks for any help.
You can contact José Miguel Novelo directly for more information. jmnovelo@mxlegalandtaxes.com But yes as we stated in the video that is all you need. Just contact your local consulate and see what they require
Over 65 have a letter from the 🇺🇸 government stating that I get a monthly pension from the VA. Stayed in Mexico from Sept 2021 to March 2022. Came to SE Asia in Sept 2022 and have been hopping between Vietnam and Thailand for the last 5 months. I will be going to the Philippines March 1st. I need to know if I don't like it in the Philippines can I go back to the 🇺🇸 where I live near the Mexican consulate in Chicago and get a temporary residency? I don't need a maybe because flying from SE Asia to the USA is expensive 😆
We already explained how the process works. We have no idea how the Chicago Consulate is. The good thing is that there are other consulates you can get this done from. In fact you should inquire with any Mexican Consulates in the Philippines or Thailand. You might be able to get it all done there.
Hey Jose, I'm going to stay in Mexico for 180 days from this April. However, I don't plan to come back to Mexico until a couple of years after that. Should I go ahead and grab a permanent or temporary residency now to get it out of the way or just get it later?
that last few times I entered into Puerto Vallarta,, I was not given the automatic 180, day ,,, can I ask for the 180 days? or will it create an issue,,,?
Of course you have to ask for the 180 days! That is how it is automatic but you have to ask for it. Otherwise the agent has to just guess and figure it out on their own
Don't get your hopes up folks. Currently it is almost impossible to get a temp residency visa. It doesn't matter if you meet the requirements or not. I was told to check back next year. Apparently too many gringos who can work from home have been flooding into MX.
Not true. All offices are different. If you were told that in one consulate or INM office then just go to another one and keep shopping around until you find one that is accepting appointments. There is a lot of misinformation on this subject and one must not settle for the first and only opinion one gets. If one really wants residency they can get it. It wont be easy but it can be done
Over 65, and retired. I tried to get an appointment for a Temporal while I was in Thailand at the Bangkok embassy and they set some serious hoops for me. Not only did they require my bank statements, they had to match the name on my passport EXACTLY, and they wanted those apostiled as well. 🙄 Getting a Thai visa was much easier, just pay a fixer and it gets done. That said, Thailand sucks compared to Mexico, that's why I came back.
If I would get a FMM next month, will I still have to wait till January 2024 and wait for confirmation that the program gets extended, or can I do this at the end of 2023 when the FMM expires?
What if you live in Tijuana, Mexico and make dollars in San Diego and cross the border daily. Do you need to go down the route of economic sovereignty? I can’t find the answer anywhere.
Thousands of people do what you are doing everyday. You have nothing to worry about. If at some point in the future they tell you to get temporary residency you will not have to provide financials they just assume you already live there
@@JoseArteagaTravels I want to get my residency though. I have been living there illegally haha. But now I want to start the process because I eventually want citizenship.
Question, if you renew your 1 year temporary Visa to four years, do you have to remain in Mexico the entire time during that 4 years before applying for Permanent Residence? Or can you leave and return to apply for Permanent Residence when it is due to expire?
@@JoseArteagaTravels I think I understand. Just need someone to fully clarify, I was thinking about getting the 4 year Temp visa, but then I would need to leave, and then want to come back in time to apply for Permanent. It seems you dont ever lose Permanent.
If you are in Mexico illegally it will be difficult for you to get stuff done in Mexico and if for whatever reason you are caught you will be prompted to get your residency or deported. It all depends on various factors

Also right now the dolar is weak against the peso so depending on what exchange rate the consulate you choose uses it varies.
please make this video for 2024. i had tempo residenci in 2020 but now i am here for 3 years in germany
Yes like you said and we said in the video it varies greatly from state to state. Thanks for sharing!
I retired at 61 , and get a check from social security every month. Can I go to Mexican consulate to apply?
Good luck!

Should I be fluent in Spanish before going to a Mexican Consulate? Or do I need representation.
Hi can you get me in touch with this attorney I need to get Mexican temporary residency I am a USA citizen and live in Rosarito Baja California.
José Miguel Novelo jmnovelo@mxlegalandtaxes .com
I'm trying to retire at 55, what can I do? I have VA disability, and 401k, I won't be able to pull from social security until 62.

If I wanted to open a small business ?
All you need is a Temporary visa to open a business in Mexico
We just spent 4.5 months in Mexico for the first time. We arrived in Nov 23/22. And have now returned back home. I would like to start off with temporary residency, I am 66yrs old and my wife is 63. So if I understand correctly I would have to go to the nearest Mexican consulate in Canada and apply. My wife and myself are collecting Canada pension, although my wife is only 63. So my question is should I only apply and get our marriage certificate translated to Spanish? I was confused about the marriage certificate translation?
And lastly what documents do I need to bring on application to the consulate. Thank You
Mike B
Most of this for TR can be done online and PR
Correct For those that know Spanish and can navigate those sites and deal with Immigration they can do it themselves without any extra help

This is the best news I need this so bad on my way
