Thanks for making these videos. Im a brand new player in the FGC scene and started with tekken (learning Noctis). Ive shown some of these videos to the more experienced players at my locals and they really like how well these are put together. Thanks for the guides!
Low parry is active from frame 1 so no, it doesn't "take significantly more frames than a crouch block", e.g. you can low parry an i10 downjab after -9. What you're talking about is such high frame advantages in Tekken where your character is nevertheless allowed to block attacks, just like your Heihachi hellsweep example. Same goes for kirimomi states into fast lows like Steve's b+1,2 - your character is allowed to guard lows, mids or highs but if you won't, you're going to get hit. One more thing: low parry is active for 20 frames from standing state and 10 frames from crouching state, meaning that holding 'd/f' for the first 20 frames will result in a low parry while from the 21st frame onwards your character will simply perform a useless crouch walk.
I was going to comment this too (although I didn't know there are only 10 active frames if done from crouching). PeterYMao did an excellent tutorial video a little while ago about low parry where he demonstrated this.
Thanks! Videos like these don't actually take super long to edit. It's mainly the character guides that take a long time, so I think after I complete my DVJ guide I'll move away from character guides to do more videos like these
Honestly I just wanted to know how to do it since I'm new to the game and I've been fighting against a Kunimitsu that keeps getting me with low kicks, but this was a very informative video on a mechanic that I was completely unfamiliar with
Thank you for this video PLEASE keep this up. I've loosely played since Tekken Tag Tournament 2 (my favorite game) release and didn't really care to know or dig for this info. This is a blessing. Again thank you for this info.
Melvin Shine He touched upon this subject when he mentioned that low parry combos do similar damage as a regular combo minus the launcher. That's where the scaling occurs.
This is wrong (possibly). I was just watching PeterYMao video on Low Parries, and he explains that Low Parries combo deal only 70% of the damage. He then proceeds to advise caution when using Arts during a Low combo, as its damage will be reduced. This leads me to believe that no, the scaling doesn't only account for the launcher. Can someone clarify this? Who's right?
@@andrea_7194 scaling occurs in all airborne combos. When he says it's 70% scaling, it's referring to the first hit in the low parry combo, as the first airborne hit will always do 70% scaling, then the combo scales regularly. So like what was previously mentioned, the combo damage is exactly the same as a normal combo, minus the launcher, since it always scales down damage the same way

I will definitely put it into consideration. Fuzzy guarding is pretty hard to explain, and I don't even use it much in my own gameplay, so I'll see how it goes
The last hit of Kazuya's 1, 2, 4 3 can be interrupted with an 11f ws move if you block the low, so it's not exactly a good example. Junkyard on the other hand cannot be interrupted, so they aren't exactly the same. But yes, it is more beneficial to low parry it than to block and punish it
This really helped. My main is Feng Wei and I don’t think he really gets an advantage from LP. I think I just need to stop and just crouch block into ws4.
Low parry is just as fast as crouch blocking so no, it's not "significantly slower". As far as I know, the only exception is when you tech roll: in that case, low parry is 1 frame slower than crouch blocking.
Low Parries happen in a 20 frame window after you press and hold df, so you can't just "crouch walk" and automatically low parry. You can, however, quickly do df, d, df, d, df and so on, if you want to "extend" the low parry activation time. Even if the opponent's low hits you whilst you're pressing d, your character will just (neutral) block it instead, so it's a safe method against lows. (And if you have a slide, this motion will naturally allow you to perform it as well)
Literally I think this came about because Harada got tired of VF low jab. It can be annoying I have seen many of VF match devolve into a low jab festival.
Reydriel They down jabs are lows but can be blocked even if you are standing special mid means a move special exceptions of its own just like the dickjab mentioned before
Manual low parrys like Dragunov's and Geese's fall under the category of reversals, and aren't the same as the universal low parry, hence why I didn't include them
Please tell me how block attacks jin and law do after perry are they unlockable? I am not talking about low perry I mean some have spcl character perry
If you can't afford to even watch the first minute of a 5 minute video but can comment twice, then clearly you don't care that much about it or are trolling so don't even bother asking. You don't deserve to know
Somewhat I like Tekken 5 animation of low parry somewhat much more realistic. After that just seems strange parrying d1 and u fall like bound like that just seems ugly for me

As always, fantastic video! Mega helpful, LPs are a super abstract concept to new players and this explains it perfectly.
Great timing! Was just looking up tips on how to parry. You're a lifesaver man!

You also cannot low parry things like shoulders e.t.c. same as regular parry. For example Feng's qcf 1
I swear you can

Isn't damage from a low party combo also scaled? I didn't know that myself until a few months ago.
Melvin Shine He touched upon this subject when he mentioned that low parry combos do similar damage as a regular combo minus the launcher. That's where the scaling occurs.
Low Parries use the same scaling as regular juggle combos. It's just that the low parry itself is a 0 dmg launcher.

Do you know when does the low parry activate? do I need to to go to full crouch or?
Just pree d+f before your opponet hits the low

Literally I think this came about because Harada got tired of VF low jab. It can be annoying I have seen many of VF match devolve into a low jab festival.
