    I love referring back to this video when I need to work on my husband's or my friend's pants. I always smile at the end when you are so excited about hitting 10K (when you made this video) and now it's way over that!!!

    Thank you! Just followed your video on taking in the waist on my husband's suit pants. Now the seat and hips look baggy. So I'll have this to help me and it isn't as complicated as the waist!

    Thank you. love seeing the tailoring skill and attitude, leaving the excess so the garment is conserved. Very pleasing, the sort of thing not done much with women’s stuff. Conserving is important. Much appreciated.

    Aspiring Gent!! Thanks for the tutorial on downsizing dress pants with a side pocket. I will try this today and share my results. My thoughts only: I which some of our men would consider purchasing smaller trousers😅

    I hope all is going well for you, and that the business is continually growing. I also hope you're surviving the winter weather. I'm in Pittsburgh and I know it's much worse up there near the Lake. 🙂

      We just got our last big batch of it I think for the year. So I am jumping with joy! How was Pittsburgh?

      @@AspiringGent We got around 5 inches today. I honestly thought a week ago it was all over, and I was ready to take the snow tires off, glad I didn't. Suppose to be warmer next week, but then again, I remember when it snowed in late April a few years back or so. Oh well, mowing season will soon be here, and I'm looking forward to working outside. Glad you are doing well, and always hope for the best for you.

    But the completed side has problem in this pocket area. See at 9:34 min. Maybe it just needs pressing, but I'm skeptical. I Do this to my jeans and slacks without opening the seam first, then easier to correct. Then I trim and overcast. I have done this at least twice to my favorites as I lost a lot of thyroid related weight gain and gradually lost.

    The bit that was driving me mad was if you take in the inside or outside seams on trousers do you reduce both sides of the seam equally? The two videos here about that say just reduce the back panels. Vital info thank you! I assume if you do it equally the trouser cut goes funny. Bonus with the outside seams if you are lucky the pocket bar tack then does not need redoing as I grasp it.

    If you stand opposite of the camera, the focus won't keep changing as much. The sound will be better too since you will not be talking with your back to the camera. You could also try a downward facing camera view by placing the tripod on the table looking down at your work. Very informative video though!

    Taking in the rear area to slim the hip area is one place, but being female plus, store bought pants are like jodhpurs to much fabric at the thigh area. Thus use a long ruler and draw a straight line from pocket to knee and get rid of the curve out for saddle bag thighs. I do not know if men's retail pants have that design issue. For men again could take it in along the side seams at the hip level if you need room for the trousers to move while sitting down.

    Great video! Have you ever flipped the direction of pleats before?

    Got a vintage suit from the 90s or something which has this issue so definitely gonna be trying this soon 👍
    Is there anything to reduce the puffiness of the pleated front, or am i just kinda stuck that that? Everything else fits well other than that

    • @thatxonexguy5438
      @thatxonexguy5438 Рік тому

      @@daaxab I’ve had a pretty good amount of learning done since I’ve last commented. Pretty much the pleats are causing too much fullness in the front which causes that. Only way you’re gonna be able to get rid of it is by pretty much doing a recut on the pants.

    I think it’s definitely really useful to have this type of information in mind as I do wear suits quite often and they aren’t always the best fit. I think I’d definitely be interested in becoming a tailor

    When taking in the hip and tapering the leg. What seam is to be taken in, the lateral or medial seam?

  • @vim1471
    @vim1471 2 роки тому +3

    What if I need to take it in at the hips and taper the leg too ?

    • @AspiringGent
      @AspiringGent  2 роки тому +4

      Then you start about 3 inch up from where the crotch work ended and start tapering the leg on both front and back panel of the trouser.

    Hi, I've been watching your videos for altering men's pants. My husband wears a size 60 jacket and size 44 waist pants, so the pants are always way too big with a suit. I can do some pretty detailed alterations, but really need to know how to take in a LOT thru the hips and butt without making the pants look twisted.

    • @AspiringGent

      @@AspiringGentThankyou for your videos they're very informative. Would you be able to tell me where to start with à trouser total downsize please ( à 46 to 40 waist euro size) legs, seat and croch are very baggy. It's my first project on a dolce and gabbana virgin wool pinstripe suit i found for 30 euros. The jacket more or less fits, but that's less complicated and will follow your tutorials.
      For the trousers i've seen the alterations to make but in which order and starting where? ( waiste, seat, hips, crotch and legs?)or totale deconstruction/reconstruction? Thankyou again for all you publish and i hope you can help. Wishing you the best with the continueing work. Jamie
