      It's literally what the move is named after.
      It can be read in japanese as "Turtle Destruction Wave", but the name is entirely derived from the author trying to come up with a pun with "Kame" (turtle") in it. That theming is also why Roshi wears a turtle-shell a lot of the time.

    It’s quite interesting how usually business interests kind of dominated American expansionism/interventions in some areas, like how America had a raid on Taiwan before it was cool in the 1860s or 70s because one of their merchant ships was destroyed. Or how they bombarded the falklands over arresting American whalers, the banana wars etc. etc. I used to think history of America was boring in some ways, even though I was an American, but I never really looked past the surface details until a few years ago and discovered the interesting events and practices that still define how my country operates.

    • @Frog_Of_Shame
      @Frog_Of_Shame 3 місяці тому +2

      Yep! That applies to all legal states. LEGAL states. Hawaii, however, was ILLEGALLY annexed. Therefore, Hawaii, if it wants too, can leave the union. However, it would cause a lot of debate, and most likely take a long time for Hawaii to be free, yet I doubt Hawaii would have to fight it’s way to freedom. After all, Hawaii was illegally annexed. Hawaii was also given recognition by the US itself for the illegal overthrow, meaning if a majority of Hawaiian Islanders wanted to be a nation, the US can’t really do anything legally to stop it. However, Hawaii being a new nation would most likely not happen since most Hawaiian citizens are satisfied with how the US is treating Hawaii now, and making a nation from scratch also takes a lot of work, discouraging the citizens of Hawaii even more.

    Out of a total population of 600,000 in the islands and 155,000 registered voters, 140,000 votes were cast, the highest turnout ever in Hawaii. The vote showed approval rates of at least 93% by voters on all major islands. Of the approximately 140,000 votes cast, fewer than 8,000 rejected the Admission Act of 1959.

    2) Hawaii aint gonna be sovereign.... 80% of the people here are Asian/ mixed Asian, and their ancestors came here a century ago and worked their tails off while the Hawaiians laid around and watched it happen...

      When Kamehameha united the islands under one rule, the Kingdom of Hawai'i was not recognised by the world as an indepedent state. In 1843 Great Britain issued a formal joint declaration with France , guaranteeing Hawaiian independence. The United States pursued an independent policy with regards to Hawaii. In a treaty signed in 1826, the United States formally recognized Hawaiian independence. Hawai'i was a sovereign constitutional monarchy until 1893, when the last Queen, Lili'uokalani, was deposed by a group of American sugar planters and missionaries, with the support of the US marines.

    This presentation is woefully lacking in factual information. Hawai’i was not “Annexed” in any lawful, Constitutional manner which REQUIRES a Treaty b/w the two nations wherein there is the consent of the people (the people formally petitioned the US Govt with a 90+% resounding “No” to Annexation); and a 2/3 vote of the SENATE-only (the House is proscribed by the Constitution from involvement with Treaties which is the sole domain and authority vested in the President w/ consent of 2/3 of the Senate). Regardless, the US wrongfully, illegally, and unconstitutionally acted and took Hawai’i with a simple majority vote of the combined Senate and House by a “Joint Resilution” which DOES NOT have legal authority outside of the borders of the U.S. The action was 100% fatally illegal; all that ensued therefrom, incl “Statehood” is null and void. To learn more, please avail yourself to “Hawaiian Kingdom Academia” on YT and watch its featured vid. / A caption came up in the comment section that noted to the effect that ‘comments & debates are welcomed,’ *but misinformation is not welcomed* - since this presentation itself is actually misinformation, what will happen to my comment since it runs contrary to the misinformation this vid represents. “Misinformation” strictures is an excellent way to suppress debate and comments of disagreement - it has the ring of velvet gloved impulses of a tyrannical view. / I will watch what happens to my post (containing 100% incontrovertible, factual information) with keen interest.

    Kalakaua had engaged in Hawaiian imperial adventures in Samoa, and was threatened with War by the Empire of Germany. A German takeover would have been a disaster for non-German businessman, so thoughtful American-Hawaiian people acted.

      What's your point? Hawaii voted with 90% to become the 50th state? The minority never ever call the shots. I would put it up for a vote again and see what happens? Let's see what the outcome of the vote would be?

      There was a higher percentage of literate people in the Hawaiian Kingdom that in the US at the time of the overthrow. The Palace had electricity and lights before the Whitehouse. The US did not have to build schools, Fire Stations, Police Stations or hospitals when the Kingdom was overthrown, they just took them over and changed the rules; like only allowing the kids in school to speak English and not their native languages, and having police sign pledges to the new government.

      Practices of Hawaii are returning due to their way of life and sustainability.
      The only thing the hā’ole excelled at was disease.
      We were very progressive especially when compared to a pathetic group of people that needed indigenous/natives to help them to survive in America. History could have been so different if natives just looked the other way.
