Hi...my family and I with 3 kids..insyaallah would be going to Xian this early December..can i ask for any tips or advice cause we are not using any tour guide...my Wife and I can’t speak mandarin...
NORHISHAM RUSDI Hi there! I guess it might be good to download the Chinese App “Baidu Map”, as Google is not accessible, so usually they use “Baidu” search engine and perhaps Yahoo. I’m not sure if they can speak much English though as we didn’t use English there. I think you might be able to download map offline into the app? Lastly I guess probably useful to learn some basic Chinese as most likely there’s not much or no information in English there. Hope it helps!
hi, I been wanting to go there. what flight did you took? any recommendation for hotels there? As I read the comments below about some food in the muslim alley not being halal, how to figure it out if it is halal or not? by asking or reading the chinese words or need a guide? thanks
Hi Idris! We actually took a domestic flight from Tsing Tao to Xi'an as we also shot some episodes there. Our hotel was Citadines apartment hotel in Xi'an which is really close to one of the entrance to Muslim Street/Quarters, highly recommended. Regarding Halal food in Muslim Street/Quarter I would say that it's very safe and convenient there, as almost all stall/restaurants are Halal, in fact there are 'Non-Halal' signage indicating if the joint is not Halal. For identification, look for this common signage : goo.gl/images/ZaTtis , most restaurants don't use the arabic word for 'Halal' but instead use the arabic for 'Halal/Muslim Food' perhaps, and Chinese word for Halal is '清真‘, pronounced as Qing Zhen, literally means pure and genuine. Hope this will help!
How do you manage to explore China without missing your way? Do you use any map application like google maps? but i noticed that google is banned in china.

Sorry, no, the. Chinese government does not recognize and respect ALL religions and ethnicities...or freedom of thought.. This is plain fact and ignorant on your part.. However, I agree that the PEOPLE of China are warm, welcoming, and open. We can share these opinions on UA-cam, an open forum banned in China, rather than heavily censored YouKu!!! Stay positive though,
I visit China frequently and have family, friends, and business associates there. I am not ill informed and lacking in perspective as you think and as you are. Please spend some time in a truly open, free democratic society then get back to me.

Alternatively, you can take a look at 0:52, which shows what a common Halal sign looks like in China typically.
thanks for the info...
