    Nice video, but quite long though just to express:
    1. Break tofu into pieces.
    2. Medium heat, add salt, pepper, garlic powder.
    3. Stir fry vegetables, add sauce.

      CaptnButtonSmash lol...welcome to youtube 😂
      In all fairness though, if I hadn't watched the whole process and heard her crunch down on those tofu pieces at the end of the video, I may not have been sufficiently convinced to actually try it this way. There are so many 'ohhh...it tastes just like the real deal' (yeah, sure) vegan recipes out there, it makes this girl a tad bit mistrustful of such claims...

      Capt, I appreciate your video condensed comment. It's also nice to see the whole process sometimes. (However, now that I've reached the end of the tofu cooking process of the video and hear she smacks her lips I appreciate your comment even more.) 10 minutes is too fucking long.
      And again thank you for condensing the video into a comment.

    If you press your tofu then soak overnight in vegan chicken flavor bullion, then drain, or sprinkle on vegan chicken flavour bullion granuales you get a much better flavor. It works great too with vegan beef flavor bullion. Taste for salt before adding more because the bullion contains salt.

    Freezing twice makes the tofu form a better meaty dish. So freeze, thaw in the counter then freeze again and thaw on the counter. Then press dry, get all liquid out that you can, this method is the go to for a more meaty chicken 😁

      You don’t need to freeze it twice at all, Vegan nearly 6 years and tried it once where I froze it a second time (read a comment like this on a post a few years ago)... it made literally no change to the texture that the first freezing didn’t already achieve. So yeah, you can skip the second freezing and still get the ‘meatier’ texture 🤗

    I love Tofu, soybeans, soybean drinks, etc. I cook with a lot of Tofu and a necessary ingredient in Pad Thai. I buy soybeans at the Asian market, soak it for a day or 2 and make soy milk. The machines are inexpensive nowadays, and you can buy it on Amazon.
    I also cook my dog food (you'll be surprised how it inexpensive it is vs. store bought dog food, wet or dry) and they eat soybeans. When I make soy milk, the leftover soybeans are combined with ground beef for their fibers along with any vegetables in the fridge. I pulverized everything in the Ninja blender and cooked it. I do add oatmeal to thicken the dog food and serve!
    I seal them up in ziplock bags for the freezer, and they are fed daily thawed. How long does it take me? 2-3 hours every 3 weeks. Never had any problems and they have been on it for a few years. No doggy breath and my vet are happy that they are healthy with great coat, teeth, and skin.

    Loved the video and will definitely try this. Just wanted to point out something though. Just because the label on spray oil says it has no calories or fat, that is usually for a 1/3 second spritz. You sprayed a lot of oil on that pan for around 5 seconds. A one second spray has about 7 calories, 2 seconds has about 14 calories and and 1.5 grams of fat. So what you used on there was somewhere around 35 calories and 4 grams of fat. Not a ton, but still almost as much as 1 tsp of olive oil. I usually just use olive oil and wipe a small amount over the pan with a paper towel just to prevent sticking. Plus, that helps avoid the additives and propellants in the sprays.

    Oh my gosh, thank you for making this video! Super helpful and I am really excited to try this out. I'm on my 3rd month of eating a plant based diet 5 days a week (which in the last couple weeks I only had meat 1 day, well 2 because I had 2 strips of bacon on another day) and I hadn't really found a way of making tofu that I have loved.. and it's exactly what you said about the texture. Like I'll like the outside parts but not the squishy insides very much. Cutting out meat has gotten easier and easier each week and this will help me even more! 💛

    Just tried this.
    Small chunks but not crumbles seem best imo.
    Little oil, i misted some olive oil on a few times during.
    Started medium heat, gradually tapered down to med-low, probably had it on the stove 30-40 mins id guess.
    Nice and crispy for sure with good texture. I added a tiny bit of sauce for glaze and it stuck nice and stayed crisp.
    Id think a good marinade would be best for full taste
    Going to try next batch after freezing to see if thats a texture enhancement.
    Nice recipe.

    Cooked my tofu like this for the second time tonight. I added a little chicken seasoning to your recommended spices. Added it to fried rice with extra veggies and pineapple bits. Great fast last minute meal. Before watching your video, I never would have thought tofu could get this crispy and chicken-like if you were patient enough. Thank you for such a great go to meal!

    If you freeze, thaw and refreeze and thaw. The tofu really gets a consistency of white meat chicken.

    • @kenbar4761
      @kenbar4761 4 роки тому +3

      you shouldn't refreeze food that has thawed out unless you cook it at a high temperature before the refreeze, otherwise you will introduce bacteria that will cause food poisening.

    • @joolesmiles4744
      @joolesmiles4744 4 роки тому +6

      Yep - totally with you, Katerina. Freeze, thaw, freeze, thaw, all in the sterile sealed packaging. It really transforms tofu's texture. Ken - you're also totally correct. If there are any bacteria in the food before it is frozen, they will multiply rapidly when the food is defrosted, and it should be cooked thoroughly. However, aseptic food in a sealed package is, by definition, sterile, so there is zero risk of bacterial food poisoning. Do not do this with home made tofu!

    • @glcnornes3783
      @glcnornes3783 3 роки тому +4

      Vegan nearly 6 years and once read someone’s comment similar to this so tried double freezing... the second freezing was a waste of time and did nothing to the texture that the first freezing didn’t already do. So save yourself the hassle & don’t bother freezing it twice... the chemical bond changes already in the first freezing 🤗
