- Don't settle for boring tofu! Try out these recipes and techniques to take your tofu game to the next level.
I all too often hear people complain that they don't like tofu because it's too bland.... that's not the tofu's fault! You've gotta season that stuff right.
Let me know your thoughts in the comments down below? What's your favourite way to cook tofu?
0:00 Intro
1:14 Smokey Tofu Crumble:
1 Block of Tofu
2 Tbsp Nutritional Yeast
1 Tsp Garlic Powder
1 Tsp Onion Powder
1 Tsp Smokey Chiplote Powder
(smoked paprika would work as well)
Method:
Crumble tofu.
Add seasoning to mixing bowl and work into the crumbled tofu.
Spread out mix on to a baking tray and bake for 25-35 minutes at 350-375 f.
Add to pizzas, salads, tacos, burritos, wraps, pasta, or chilli.
4:50 Sweet & Salty Sesame Tofu
1/2 Block Tofu
1 Tbsp Braggs Liquid Aminos
(soy sauce or Tamari would work too)
2 Tsp Hot Sauce
2 Tsp Rice Vinegar
1 Tsp Toasted Sesame Oil
1 Tsp Garlic Powder
1 Tsp Onion Powder
2 Tbsp Maple Syrup or Sweet Chilli Sauce
1-2 Tbsp Sesame Seeds
Method:
Cube tofu
Mix all the ingredients in a bowl minus the maple syrup/sweet chilli sauce and sesame seeds.
Watch video for quick marinade technique.
Bake on a non-stick baking tray for 25-30 minutes at 375 f.
Using the leftover marinade, mix in the maple syrup/sweet chilli sauce sesame seeds and tofu cubes.
Place back into the oven for another 10 minutes or so.
Remove when edges start to brown.
10:24 How to Make Tofu Chewier
Freeze and thaw a full block of tofu. Right in the package works just fine!
You can thaw it on the counter in about 7 hours or in the fridge in about 24.
Drain and press out excess water.
Season and cook using your favourite recipe.

Hey everyone! Thanks for checking out the video. Let me know if my wild cousin should make more appearances. Maybe a full day of eating on his first day eating vegan?
Also, I'm sorry the music is a little loud in the intro. Do you like music in the background of the videos or do you find it distracting? It always seems so boring and dry without, but it's also annoying finding something that fits and an appropriate volume level. Let me know below.
Simnett Nutrition music? Which music? All was muted by those squishy farty sounds of the marinating part... Bad cousin for the win. Great hair he has. Also, the editing of this vid is on point! The chopping sounds were peeeeerfekt!
Would LOVE to see what this guy eats in a day. He seems full of energy! LOL! Love this mullet tofu man character
DEFINITELY more of the bad cousin!!! He's an epic addition to your videos 😎
The music is excellent btw, just tone it down a little bit so it would be more in the background and its perfect :)
That was Jeff Nippard's brother, I thought. (thinking of TV's Sheldon and his brother) :-)
I buy firm tofu, slice it thin, put it on a pan for a second than add soy sauce and stock, garlic. It absorbs all flavors like a sponge. Try it
People eating unseasoned food and asking why it sucks, should take a deep look into a mirror.
So many people think eating healthier means eating flavorless, so I'm glad you're helping to change that!
1 shake of garlic/onion powder at a time. Lol.
I'll let my cubed tofu marinate in some corn starch, maple syrup, + GF soy sauce for around 20 minutes. then I put those bad boys in the air fryer on 375 for 15-25 minutes (shaking every 5 minutes or so) + then drown them in some home made sweet + sour sauce. + add some rice, broccoli, + mushrooms. it's bomb! 🙌 thanks for sharing these awesome tofu ideas. also. thanks for being a great vegan fellow. ✨🌿
was looking for someone to mention what temp to fy it at since i literally have mine sitting in a marinade right now XD thank you!
The humor and approachability is why this is the channel I recommend on the rare occasions when someone asks me how to properly go plant based. Come for tofu, stay for the pull ups.
Word.
exactly!
Hahaha
As soon as he slapped the tofu he had me 😂 ❤🎉
Haha, who is THIS fun character who’s turned up?! LOVED everything about this video. GREAT content, brother!
Hi Paul, you are way out of your time zone - lol.
yea! kinda reminds me buff dudes!
Re: soy OK? I just consider the cultures that have used it "forever". They are among the healthiest, longest living folks on the planet. Good enough for me. I eat tofu, tempeh and soy curls along with other protein sources (not all in one meal-LOL), 66 years old and pretty dang healthy.
And I'm in the US, and feeling pretty heavy on election eve. So happy to laugh at your friend the mullet guy, and the squishy tofu. This looks so great. Thanks for the laughs, much appreciated! 🙏
Preferably NON-GMO tofu!
I'm Japanese and Tofu and Natto fermented beans is what I live on 😋 They are so good
I've wanted to try natto ever since I saw it on Ryoya's channel!
I love tofu but never tried natto have not heard of it
tempeh is the best soy product in my opinion
I've had natto. Omg the smell is terrible but I suck it up because it is good for me.
@@KMCLA ohhh yeah, I'm 100% team tempeh
I just had my first taste of tofu and I'm 70 years old! I used the tofu crumble recipe (the first one), and it was delicious! The only thing I couldn't find in my local grocery store was fresh cilantro, but I don't think it detracted too much from the original recipe. I was amazed at how much like meat the crumble was, both in taste and texture. A real winner and I have enough left over for a couple more meals. 😊 New subscriber here.
I went vegan a week ago and OMG am I happy that I found this awesome channel! Thank you!!❤
Me too? I just started my new of veg? I bought tofu and I was ax eating it plain. So far.
I’ll be nervous going out to restaurants and this Easter will be first holiday, what can I eat??
Just a quick tip for the freezing method. Drain before hand and put it in a container in the freezer that way it thores quicker and you get even more liquid out of it too.
thawes!
thaws
The bad guy was so funny. I hope to see more of him :-D
He needs a name
@@alexandrodl1371 He reminded me of Billy from the series Stranger Things.
YES! YES! YES!

I'm from India so good man 👌 love love this ❤️ I'm vegan 💪 so happy

Just made the sweet and salty sesame tofu! It’s mine & my husband’s first time trying tofu, and it was SO good. Thank you Derek & Crystal for all these videos! Thank you for the info on soy, cuz I’ve avoided the healthy kind for decades, while shrugging at the soybean oil and isolate that sneaks into everything else. Thank you so much for sharing everything! I appreciate your channel so much.

I was laughing because I squeeze the tofu just like you were doing in the video and I always say I’m going to get a “real” tofu press and I never do. It works so why get one. Thanks for the continued great simple recipes and content. ❤️

So glad you made this video! As a new whole plant based eater, it's been difficult to figure out how to prepare it besides stir fries and curries. I'll definitely try the sweet and salty sesame tofu! Gotta remember that marinade technique too!

I definitely haven’t mastered tofu yet so I’m thankful for these tips! Most of the time I just throw it in a pan and mash it up for a tofu scramble.
Thank you so much, gonna try all three versions. Cheers.

I made the sweet & salty sesame tofu and you were right - it's one of the best tofu dishes I've ever had! I also tried it with tempeh and that was also really good. I'm just having it with roasted broccoli and brown rice.

The outro was amazing ! Love that new guy on the channel !
Thanks so much Derek in Parksville. We moved to NS last year from Pender Island - had many chances to visit lovely Parksville.
OMG, that mullet guy is my spirit animal! LOL I honestly love snacking on raw tofu when I'm preparing it.
Freezing tofu is such a great way to get it chewy. I love how much it soaks up marinades. Great video!
Wonderful suggestions of which I am going to try
Looks really good man, I was waiting for this video after seeing it on your instagram.
Thank you, Derek.
