Grew up in Northern Virginia in the 70s, graduated HS in 77. These guys were the shit back then, saw them in countless bars, lounges, clubs, & theaters back then. Best show was them & Eric Quincy Tate at the State Theater in Arlington VA. Both those bands should have been alot bigger than they were. But I guess we got to have what everyone else missed out on. I gotta say Jimmy Hall takes them to a level that certainly is captured here. Thanks for the posting

The Nighthawks are Petr Ragusa ,Jan Zukowski, Mark Wenner and the Great Jimmy Thackery . THAT''S ALL !!!!!

Singing was the Nighthawks Achilles heel, like it is for so many regionally great bands. J Thackery was a respectable vocalist, but not a great one (like Kim Wilson or SRV) - incredibly gifted & dynamic guitarist, obviously, and the reason why I truly loved the Nighthawks. But when Thackery walked, there went the Nighthawks. J Hall obviously had incredible pipes, but he’s just wrong for the Nighthawks. It’s so obvious. So is the guitarist in this band.

Donald Lyons. You're not wrong there. I was never really into Wet Willie, but he totally blew me away on the Mighty Jeremiahs only album. He really kicked ass there

I'm not sure if they ever sang together but I know they were on tour together at one point. In the very early '70s when Jimmy Hall was still with Wet Willie, in Roanoke Virginia the Allman Brothers were the headliner, J Geils band were the support, Wet Willie was the opener. It was a damn good show. I snuck a small cassette recorder in and recorded as much of it as I could, the quality was terrible quite naturally. Over the years that tape has long since disappeared. Oh well it was the early '70s, great time for music. And by the way the cost was three bucks!

@@donaldlyons537 I'm 71, and you are right, it was a killer show. It was Dec 5, 71. They had been scheduled to be there in October but Duane got killed so it was rescheduled. Betts was the only guitarist but it was still great!
