Marbella is a city and municipality in southern Spain, belonging to the province of Málaga in the autonomous community of Andalusia.
Marbella is situated on the Mediterranean Sea, between Málaga and the Strait of Gibraltar, in the foothills of the Sierra Blanca.
During most of the year it is a center of attraction for international tourism thanks mainly to its climate and its tourist infrastructure. Although less known, the city also has a significant archaeological heritage.
The old town of Marbella encompasses the old walled area and the two historic suburbs of the city: the Barrio Alto, which extends to the north, and the Barrio Nuevo, located to the east.
Three notable buildings are arranged around the square: the town hall, erected by the Catholic Monarchs; the house of the Corregidor, with a Gothic façade-Mudejar and Renaissance; and the Ermita de Santiago, the oldest religious temple in the city, prior to the square, as it is not aligned with it, so it is believed to date from the 15th century.
