Maybe another asshole driver caused it and left the scene. It's all speculation. Terrible crash though. It would definately be a terrifying last few moments.
Authorities must speculate early in the incident, to try to determine what happened while evidence is still there, but the proof will come after autopsy, as to whether or not the body had alcohol in its system.
THat's a LOT of "maybes" but people need to realize that with scientific techniques available today, ALL of those "maybes" you mention can be analyzed and an accurate determination can generally be made about the causes of these crashes.

Here's the thing, I've been on that road before and especially at night while speeding around tight curves makes for a very fucked up road. Considering drinking, they really should scan the surrounding area for ejected people. Not many people drink alone. On the other hand, I've had to dodge deer and coyotes crossing the road. One that I had to smear or go down the cliff.
By the lay out of the land and the way the truck is smashed, it does not match the elevation side of the mountain angle. The way the truck is damaged speaks volumes about how it got drop on the front favoring the passenger side. This truck looks like it was dropped almost straight down and fell on to its cab. It is kind of like when a balloon full of water is dropped it throws things away from it, same thing here.
Be careful on that road; been going up & down it for years...you should see it in the winter when it snows & is icy...please slow down & use the Turnouts !
At least it seems likely the person died instantly, there's not much left of that car nor probably the person in it. Also if it had been there for a long time all the scratches exposing bare metal would have rusted, so it probably wasn't there too long.

No shortcuts here. Dangerous roads, lots of curves. You dont even need to step on the gas going down hill. You'll hit 50 mph in no time even just on neutral. When ever I go up there I drive down hill pressing on break not gas.

When you see 4 bottles in close proximity to a car like that, it is more than likely part of the accident scene. Too bad. One of those tires also looks to have very little tread left. Probably happened in the night, there's not too much foot traffic around in that area, but the hiker in mid-afternoon found it. Autopsy will be able to determine the time of death as well as if there was alcohol in the body's system. Sad, a loss of life, no matter what the circumstance.
A friend of the victim posted a comment and she said in the autopsy he had no alcohol in his system that it was most likely due to weather and the mans diabetes
