I occasionally have to clean out hoarder houses for legal work my brother does. 4-5 houses ago I saw a nice orange roll of quarters on the garage floor, about 10 seconds away from being swept up by the works. Swoop! It was labeled "1964" and labeled correctly! That same house had at least half a dozen Merc dimes tucked in between the carpet and the walls. Another house had 10 Kennedy halves. Yes, it is true that taken all together, $2 and $3 and $5 here and there times 300 million people is a ton of money, but there's not much you can do with it 73 cents at a time.
As a former trashman i van verify this. I use to find piggy banks, zip lock bags and coffee cans full of coins in move out piles. Envelopes with small bills or foreign currency was also common. Little of the coins was pre 64 but about every 2-3 years id cash all the change in for a nice weekend getaway with the wife.
wow!! So glad you collected the "booty" and had fun with it, LOL!!!
the most I ever found was almost 2800 in cash and coins in a vending companies 15 yard roll off. when I dumped at the landfill I got a lot of candy too!!!
I also was a trashman and the other guys would make fun of me for pulling the change out of the back hopper of the truck, however they didn't realize I was getting 60- 100$ a month of just pulling change out of the trash
Maybe this is why people do coin roll hunting. If the coin collections are just cleaned and then sent to the bank, the bank just rolls them up and puts them back into circulation. This could be why people are finding silver dimes, quarters and Halfs in their rolls.
I found coins lying on the ground the day after the carnival left town. This was back in the sixties, and my dad convinced me to start saving the coins and put them in a coffee can and then when it was full to open a savings account, so I did. When I got married, I had over 25k in my account. I am still doing it today at the age of 70 years old.I have instilled this into my kids and grandchildren. About thirty years ago, I started to check the coins and remove the coins that I could sell for more money and deposit them into my account. Thanks for the video, Daniel it brought back a lot of memories of where I've found money in the weirdest places. I am always on the lookout for money anywhere I may find them. Have a great day, Daniel.
Last year, my wife and I started a change jar to put in the money we find on the ground. At the end of the year, we had found almost $40. It's not a get rich scheme, but we both got something nice at the coin shop for free. We are still doing it and it amazes me what we find. The local dollar general yields the biggest bonanza ironically. We are not too proud.
That's really amazing to think about . I've seen people with my own eyes actually knowing that they are throwing away change. Example, clean ups in homes, detailing cars, walking by a coin seeing it on tails side"reverse"in a grocery store parking lot. I grew up in a family that struggled financially, so it's easy for me being an adult now to identify other people's traits that may not have any worries with money. Better yet, I enjoy the finds of passed up, thrown away , whatever you want call it change. If it different in any way, the hobby I enjoy wouldn't be what it is now. California daniel
Hi Daniel, I couldn't help but shout at my phone while watching this video. There was a point when you asked what do they do with all the coins? Those are the mext new mint error discoveries awaiting their turn on ETSY! 😂 HAVE A GREAT DAY,
I rode a bike to work almost every day for over 25 years - more than 50,000 miles. During that time, I stopped to pick up any coin I came across. In that time, I collected over $400 in "roadkill coins". I can only think of a couple ways that these coins could end up on the side of the road, but the most likely way is that people throw it out the window when they are driving in their cars.
I know of people who don't like pennies and just throw them away when they get them. Silly. I pick them up when I see them.
I find money every week. Yet to find a great treasure trove of silver but I am sure eventually I will find some. Its crazy to me when people knowingly throw away change.
Quite an eye opener! Maybe there is a coin shortage when you see this taking place! Thanks for the video Daniel! 👍
I used to dumpster dive and found 4k in cash in the trash
Very interesting, good info
I don't have a story, but when I see a coin I go get it. Good video, as usual Daniel.
Have a great day.
This is one of my favorite videos! I pick up coins at work that get thrown in the floor and in the back yard. If people knew what us detectorist and coin collectors knew, they would be more careful. Thank God for ignorance 😂
2:03 - Kids, don't clean your coins... 😂
Crushed the like button! Excellent information and thank you so much for sharing!
My daughter's sister in law asked me if I could tell her what the coins her grandmother left her, were worth. They looked like rare Morgan dollars and Gold buffalo proofs, but I know and you know they were just cheap plated copies, sold by those late night rip off coin shows. I hated to burst her bubble.
I found a $5 bill folded up into a small square. Unfolded it when I got home and there was some mystery white powder inside. I wasn't about to mess with that for $5 so tossed it.
I grew up near a baseball field, and you would be surprised how much change people lose under the benches and in front of the concession stand.
I worked at Harry's u pull it back in the 90s out of high school. My job was to clean the cars out before they went to the yard. Man, i used to find atleast 10-20 dollars a day in coins. Never found any silver tho.
i clean out the car wash car vacs once week at my gas station I get anywhere from 10 to 50 dollars a week that way and lot s of jewelry also, when I was a garbage man in the early 70s I picked up a compactor box from a Chicago high rise the whole load was just full of rolls of nickels!! I had only about 10 minutes at the dump to grab all I could and ended up with 267$ in nickels and I don't know how much more got buried, when the bulldozer pushed that load into the 15th foot deep trench I could see all the coins go over the edge shinning like diamonds in the sunlight.they were all 1970d
I read a book by Dick Stout on metal detecting where he said that it’s been estimated that 10% of all coins EVER MINTED are still recoverable by metal detector.
I would say more than that.
I metal detect and, on average, dig 10-20 dollars a day. Money is all around you.
I've metal detected for years never have gotten that much in a day!
@@allanpelton684 in Canada it’s common since we have $1 and $2 coins
Sorry, I was thinking of U.S. only, Canada is a great neighbor!
Never would have thought...great video, really enjoyed this one.
If I pay cash for anything I try to give exact change. And if I see change on the ground I pick that up, even pennies. I usually find about $5 a month in coins thrown away by others.
I have a piggy bank that ONLY receives "found money" from "out in the wild", lol. I like to amuse myself with little games like that.
Thank you for sharing, Daniel! Have a great day!
Guess im part of the coin hoarding problem, have 250 lbs of pre '82 pennies and a 5 gallon bucket of nickels in the garage. No plan to turn them in though😊
I recently bought a suburban to take the engine for a transplant and to part out. I found about $10 worth of change under the seats in cracks and corners. Imagine how much change is lost in cars that go to wrecking yards and ultimately to metal recycling facilities where auto bodies are shredded and recycled.
Very interesting story. Never really thought about it. Thanks for sharing, Daniel. 👍👍
This is the reason the mintage numbers and what’s left in existence are flawed. The mint couldn’t possibly know how many are left of any given date.
Not only do I find coins but silver and gold jewelry as well!
What a sad story, the landfill location would be an important piece of info! If those folks were more vigilant, simply being aware of what they disposed of makes all the difference. Key date coins could be destroyed, imagine finding out an authentic 1889-cc morgan was thrown away...I would be heartbroken.
The wishing well in malls.
In Europe there is a famous wishing well that is over $10 million-various countries. The money is used for maintenance and for the homelessness.,
Bob
Same with paper money to! It's one reason the goverment has had to over print our currency because billions of dollars end up in other countries.
I have accidentally thrown away paper money, recovered gold nuggets, diamonds, and coins purchased at coin shows and auctions. Glad I am not the only one.
I pick up all the coins I find on the ground, coinstar reject tray, check coin return slots in video games and soda machines. I also do some metal detecting. No telling how much money I have made this way in the last 50+ years. I have had people laugh at me, but I retired at 55, who's laughing now.
Parking lots are another great place to keep an eye open for coins.
Have a Jesus filled day everyone
Greg in Michigan
Daniel! Interesting video! I know that the story is true, my family has a hugh glass jar full of change that we'll count up one day or not! Be well! Ed
It just shows how most Americans take the smallest thing's for Granted so Very Sad😢
I find coins in dumpsters all the time and every time I find them, I take them home with me and then spend them!!!!!!
This lady just found world war two artifacts in her couch she was throwing away so I could only imagine how many coins could still be in things like that
This is why 1800 got junk makes so much money. I have a friend that works with them and most hoarders have many valuables that people see as junk
You brought up a very pet peeve topic of mine. Those who constantly post "Is this an error" when they do NOT know ANYTHING about the minting process. SMH
No kidding.
I I have coins to check out to
Why wouldn’t you at least donate your change at a change collection fundraising jar? Maybe a large scale professional non-profit change collecting group could capitalize and help those in need… Change for a Change. Have a great day Daniel. 😎👍👍👍
I FIND COINS EVERY WEEK ON THE GROUND AND SOMETIMES BYE THE TRASH CANS OR DUMPSTERS CRAZY ISN'T IT!!!!
One man’s trash is another man’s….??
I was rather taken a back a bit when I applied my calculator to the total mintage of Jefferson’s…there’s only,at most, 200 nickles for every US citizen…
Your probably more above average than you thought..😂😂
I can certainly believe that story
I would like to send you a picture of a coin how do I do that
My First thought without watching the Video yet is our “Government” probably could multiply that number by 10
Great info as a former Delivery Driver for 20+ years I found over $400 in loose change laying on the ground that I saved and to this day if I see change on the ground I still pick it up.
As a little boy I always went with my father to our local dump to look through items, this was in the early 60’s and I found 2 rolls of silver dimes that I still have today.
I have old coins 1919 1914 pennys 1977 1973 pennys I have half dollars and silver dollars can u plz tell where I can sell them I also have silver penny and a lot of Canada coins and other country coins Ty Teresa Stephens
And how many of the Coins Thrown Away are Silver, Gold or Valuable Coins!
Don't let the IRS know about this. Some of those 87k new agents may show up at your door wanting to search under your couch and chair cushions. Uncle Sam is going to want his share.
I'm guilty of hoarding change, I keep saying I'll take it to the bank and cash it in, but never seem to get it done.
Right now I have a five gallon water bottle about a third full, and two of the popcorn tins you get at Christmas completely full, can't even put the lids on them. I also have a big piggy bank full of state quarters I saved when that program began, then I realized it was just pocket change. I don't know how much money that would be, but I'm sure it's in the hundreds of dollars.
I've got to get that stuff to the bank, just not today. 😊
The coins may soon be worth more as melt----lots of folks (financial types) are saying that near total bank collapses are imminent. Hang on to it! At least through this year and see what happens.
I had an employee that would throw her change on the ground as she was leaving a business. Every time. And I told her I could never do that because life treats me as if it's got some unknown score to settle with me and when I was dead broke, it was going to bring back all those images of me throwing away coins and say , ”I bet you wish you had those coins now!" Her rationale for pitching the change was that she didn't want to mess with it and it wasn't that much money.
I have a 1964 no mint very good condition quarter is it worth anything?
Millions
I saw the article about this the other day and the floor with the pennies is what made me mad. I bet you that there is at least one coin in there that could have paid for a brand-new and better looking floor than some epoxy covered pennies. Oh well, yuppies will be yuppies.
It is difficult enough to find a coin worth over $5 in change, let alone several thousand, so there's no reason to be made about someone recycling and making better use from things people throw away.
A scrap yard owner told me years ago , when Pennies were copper, another scrap yard that shreds cars, the guys would bring in 55 gallon drums of mangled pennies for scrap!
Wow
I think yes maybe that was true in the past but since people have started using plastic for all their purchases coins are not found in people pockets and purses actually O think it has become a problem for banks I now have no problem going to the bank and taking home boxes of coins for my hobby of digging for those wheat pennies and silver hunting in dimes and quarters plus error coins they are will to sell me as many boxes as I like.😂
In coffee cans...
I walk 3-5 miles a day, I have found many pennies,I have a huge bucket of copper pennies, I also have found a few $10 bill and my favorite story was walking to the bank to turn in change and was mad it was so windy, 1 min later a $20 bill blew right up to me.
I’m usually only one who picks up a discarded penny. If my back wasn’t broken. I’d be dumpster diving and going trough wrecking yards looking for that elusive quarter.
'da PROFESSOR PUTS OUT A FUN VIDEO TODAY... THANKS PROFESSOR!
Wow! I can see this happening. Folks hardly stoop down to pick up a penny anymore.
Wow...
Coins are worthless these days. And they get lost, that is why Roman, Wu Shu or Nagas of Narwar coins are common.
This might explain why some are black in color. They survived the incinerator
That is amazing! I know I have probably 900 pounds or more in just nickles quarters and dimes.. Have a great day Sir Daniel!
Great video! I have always thought about the amount of change left in junk cars. I have witnessed this so much when lifting seats, buying cars, etc... My cousin totaled her mustang and just looking at it the interior it looks like she had at least $50 in variety of change that she walked away from.
Coinstar rejects, silver dimes.
An affluent society in decline….
My wife complains because everytime I see a penny on the ground , I will bend over and pick it up. Her comment all the time it’s only a penny why bother. Well two days ago I picked up a penny dated 1959 no mint mark and a double 5 on the date. I’m going to have someone look at it but it goes to show always look at your coins.
Dumpster dive!
In the last eight months of last year, my fiancé and I have found $110 in change just from taking walks around our area.
Who benefited from it?
The people who take the time and bought the equipment to sort out the change and it created jobs. So it benefited a lot of people.
haha! I'm guilty---I've got a jar of coins, plus my collected coins as well. But, my home isn't a hoarder house and it isn't trash floor to ceiling. I'm glad the kids you mention in the story at least found some of their Dad's coins, forgotten as they were. I watch a couple of channels of guys who go digging for antique bottles and vintage marbles and stuff in old landfills---occasionally they find 90% silver coins---always exciting. 🙃
I always thought that one of my wishes, if granted three, could be to have all the lost coins in a pile for me to look through. 😅
Automobiles, washing machines and dryers are notorious loose change collectors.
Can a anyone tell me when the Cincinnati coin show is Please.
You can Google search it, it's in July
I need to put a coins only trash can in front of house.
I have 31k coins in my possession. Since retirement, my hobby is coins.
Daniel I find 600 hundred dollars a summer metal detecting on beaches
Ever tell ya about the $34mil Powerball ticket I found in the trash? No, but cd happen.😇
Hi everone can anyone help me and tell me what this is and where it comes from and mybe its value
When I was 8 years young I found a gold coin , while digging through the dirt next to my Grandmas house. I made the mistake of putting it in a sock and then placed it on top of my dresser next to my bed. Unfortunately when I woke up, I found out that my Dad put it in a garbage bag and then threw it away in a dump. I learned a lesson that day.
Thanks for your valuable videos.
Respectfully,
Grown Up Coin collector 🪙🪙🪙🪙🪙🪙🪙🪙👍🏻
Can verify, I found a 1978 s proof penny on the ground.
Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; by which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; and that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: and that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: after that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time.
