not in america with certain jobs, like waitressing. they're paid less than minimum wage because they're expected to make it up in tips, even if it's not a realistic expectation. unless a server like that does something real awful...tip them. just consider it as part of the price of where you're going.
@@akiraagreste359 How about just paying waitresses in 'murica a liveable wage instead of guilting your customers into doing so. Like c'mon, it's not like their prices are lower because they pay their servers in dogshit.. It's most likely because of greed, as is standard in America.
@@numetalinkin Same here. If you own a business and can't afford to pay your employees a livable wage, then you have no business opening a business. If I pay for services, why do I have to tip?
Maybe at the beginning of the tour he should point out or remind the patrons that his income or salary depends on tips just like a server. He wouldn't have to be demanding or rude about it, but it would inform those who don't know. I wouldn't think to tip a tour guide. I think there are a lot of situations where people may not know that a persons income is based in gratuity. I know that back when I was a server I had several people who didn't tip and one lady asked why people left money on the table after paying the check. When I informed her that we made less than minimum wage from the company and the difference was made up in tips she was surprised. She said that she had never really eaten out much and didn't know. There are some people out there who don't know when it is appropriate to tip and when it isn't unless they are informed.
Or he could just charge them what he needs to so he can make an income. Expecting a tip is advertising a false price for the tour service. Charge a fee that makes it worth your time to give the tour or don't do it. Relying on tips is a bad idea. People want to pay the price they were advertised.
I don't know the whole story about it but, they do it because the ones who work in those positions don't get paid well so people tip them so the workers can make some money.
No disrespect to the tour guide dude, but the whole concept of tipping while on vacations is out of control. We're commonly expected to tip at restaurants, but if you're on a touristy vacation we're also supposed to tip airport shuttle drivers, baggage porters at hotels, cab drivers, parking valets, desk clerks, hotel maids, bartenders, concierges, room service delivery, gambling dealers, sightseeing guides, tour guides... even bathroom attendants. Are we supposed to spend 75% of our travel budget on tips? We need real set wages for service people, like in most Scandianvian countries. Frankly, the over-expectations of tipping turn me off to most services like this, and I end up not using them. I even avoid restaurants with wait staff, considering that many restaurants automatically add on service charges and delivery fees in addition to the expectation you'll also be tipping. It's crazy!
John D people have a little extra money and think oh im going to go on vacation and at the end of it they're broke thats not how it works if you don't have money at the end of your vacation you shouldn't have gone in the first place
You don't have to tip, but if we have set wages all these people you mentioned would get a pay cut and restaurant owners etc. would have to raise prices.
LOL if they are paying for the meals, then why would they tip him? i get hes like a tour guide but they may need to try asking the restaurants to offer some type of percentage tip if they do decide to dine once he guides them so hes not so bitter. Its enough having to pay for the travel, room, meals, and u want me to tip u. I understand how it is but dang economy isn't really forgiving on anyone.
Woman!!! Ffs!! Are you stupid or something?? He is proving a fking SERVICE!!! An EXPERIENCE!!! That's worth tipping for!! Omfg why do people need to have sh%t broken down for them on such basic matters?!?!
I worked at little Caesar’s my first year in college & I made 7.25 an hour, worked almost 30 hours a week, no lunch break bc manager said it wasn’t required & I lived 30 mins away from my job . Plus I was driving back & forth to school everyday 45 mins away from my home. I barely made a little over $130 a week. Any tips that the customers would give me I couldn’t take home bc we weren’t allowed to keep tips. I was making at least $20-30 a day in tips alone.
i never tip anyone that asks for a tip, even if i had enough money to tip, i just don't think its necessary, i worked hard for my money why should i give to you you already get payed by your company, if you don't like the way this job pays you go look for another one that pays better, i'm not here to compensate for the shortage of your financial situation.
i hope things in usa doesn't mostly rely on tips. they should just get paid properly in able to live and thrive not relying on just tips for better life
I think if he loves the job that much, just keep doing it and don't mind your salary. Now, if he's not happy with the income, then get another job.. I like my job but it's not what I like the most but it pays nice so its a good balance. Just find what works for you.
he should give a hint in his job description or when he advertises or something before the tour.. you can't give the hint during the tour, coz people most likely weren't ready for that
It sounds like he has to say something about it but I actually find it a bit tacky for him to ask for tips at the end of the tour. I know to tip tour guides and understand many people from other countries outside of North America might not know. I would rather have a note in the booking info that says something like if you enjoy our tours, gratuities are much appreciated by your tour guides. For a bus tour, I've seen signs in the bus, which I think is a good thing but it's a bit more awkward because he gives walking tours. It would be nice now that everything is so easy to set-up electronically that you could just get a text or email afterwards with the option to tip and then it could just be on your credit card rather than having to get so much cash in the right currency when travelling and being careful to have enough for all of the tips. Especially when travelling to multiple countries in a trip.
The states needs to move on from the tipping way of payment... If You Work service. Have the pay in the Damm Bill... Tips are supposed to be extra that you CAN give. If you feel like your service was beyound.. the tip to pay is a 100 years since the rest of the World Saw it that way
Its so sad that people like him are not paid enough that they have to rely on tips. The guy is working hard and he has to do this work day in and day out for years and years. For God sake increase his wages.
Always hate tip. You hired to do a job, with a salary and that's it. if the customer see he would like to tip then that his decision and he pay whatever he thinks is right. These day you go to a restaurant and %15-20 tip on the top of the bill. I don't need to feel I must pay the tip.
I don't understand this. Do the people who he is doing the tastebuds tour with not pay for the tour? A tip is nice but if he is paid for the tour there is no reason to do pathetic about the tip he is not getting.
Bless him, he looks like he works hard and enjoys his job! He's dressed nicely and has a great smile. TIP THE MAN PEOPLE!

Very True
Great advice. You have to make it clear what you expect and let them know in return you will do you best for a great experience.
I totally agree with this.
I've been to many places where they tell you at the beginning that tips are appreciated. No one I Know has ever been offended by that.

Quite honestly I wouldn’t even know to tip him.

In America tipping people is getting out of control. People now see it as their right to be tipped... Can't grasp to that yet.
