I know the mono version sounded great in my car’s speakers back in the day. Listening on my cellphone speakers the stereo recording sounds clear and less cluttered.
Motown in the 1960’s mixed their recordings to sound good in cars and jukeboxes.

Their methods of mixing the records for car radio speakers was brilliant. And they didn't take any chances. Jimmy said this one got 13 mixes and I know I've read how some records got even more mixes before they were satisfied. The stereo mixes, like you said, could be very clear, almost startlingly clear sometimes. On the stereo mix of "As Long As There Is L-O-V-E Love" I was surprised to hear some kind of ticking during the intro. I don't know if it was a metronome or Jimmy's Timex!

@@Tomovox_PAMS_Radio_JIngles I would love to hear as many mixes possible of a Motown release. Almost all of the times the final release was the best. I wonder if those tapes of alternative versions were erased, (which Motown was known to do) or are yet to be found in the vaults?

@@robertanzalone5853 A lot of the alternate mixes have come out on those expanded edition collections.
Also, you know how Motown likes to put out a million greatest hits type of cds? I used to balk at the idea of buying the same songs over and over, bit then I found that sometimes they will use an alternate mix of a song or two.
The Millennium collections are very good for finding surprises like this. And there's CD called Temptations Love Songs, or something like that; it features a version of Since I Lost My Baby with an alternate mix and vocal.
So there are still alternate mixes in the vaults...
