@@BreakfastAllDay Watched it everyday for a week since having it, and their album. Have even got a highlighted comment on one of their video clips on their youtube channel...was 'chuffed' - happy as could be - to bits.
I saw this a couple weeks ago with a Q&A and hearing from Kneecap after the film along with Rich Peppiatt made the entire experience even better. The group is so grounded in liberation and history. They discussed their solidarity with other oppressed populations. Hopefully more people find out about them as result of this film.
My girlfriend actually interviewed them after a gig last month and they seem like really nice lads but take the p*** so much even in their interviews. I'm not surprised Alonso struggled to understand though Belfast accent can be hard to understand I wasn't even aware this was a thing, glad Fassbender was involved though says a lot about how he views his own Irish background. Kneecap are really controversial. As someone in the Irish diaspora in London, who agrees with their politics, them being unapologetic pro-republican, pro-Gaelic and anti-British occupation annoys all the worst people. It's actually really nice to hear two Americans review this and not to have to minimise their praise out of fear of people calling them a terrorist supporter or something 😂 - because as an Irish person in England expressing support for Irish unification does get you this label often sadly
From back home, another unapologetic Nationalist & Gaeilgeor here. Tis great its getting such high praise. The lads doing more for our mother tongue & unification than any overpaid Ministers for Rural & Gaeltacht affairs so bravo Kneecap. Maithú 👏 👏 👏
30.5K subscribers!! You guys are ticking up at a pretty fast rate lately, love it! Pretty high scores on this one, a 9 surprised me. Glad "Sing Street" got a mention!
I’m right in sync with you Christy; such a wildly audacious debut and one of the best of the year!! And to think it probably won’t even make my top 10 list this year, says a lot about the wealth of riches we’ve been getting lately…
A lot of people in Ireland are techno speaking Irish Hiberno English, which is linguistically closer to AAVE than it is “Proper” English. So as an Irish person i think it’s okay if you were a little confused at what people are saying sometimes. I think once we have more representation people will know more! Also accents are very greatly county to county here, so there’s also an inconsistency that may make it hard to follow speech patterns/accents :))))
Hit the 'U.S subtitles' on the 4K version that I have, it will show all the 'English' subtitles on to make it easier to understand for non-native UK people. I know that many films from the UK aren't understood by our brothers and sisters in the U.S.....too many different accents in the UK, even from north and south London! ;-)
Good review. I'll have to check it out when comes to VOD because it just left theaters in my area (as I just came back from taking a summer vacation in the Pacific Northwest). Just curious, are you going to review SKINCARE starring Elizabeth Banks in the near future?
Don't the Welsh say the Brits came one night and took all the vowels from the language? Matthew Rhys talks to his youngest kid in Welsh, if I'm not mistaken. We should all be more interested in preserving these languages!
Saw this a couple weeks ago on a whim cuz I was supposed to be in Ireland but things happened and couldn’t go this year. I’m hard of hearing too and so I want to see it again with close captions, but I still really liked it! So interesting to learn about ways to save a language. I definitely felt the Trainspotting vibe too 😊
I loved it too and was surprised to find myself moving so much to the music. Great fun! Our local AMC usually offers a screening or two with subtitles and I smartly chose one of those to attend otherwise I'm sure I would've felt so lost! I too have a Can't Stop The Music affinity. I saw it I think 4 times in theaters in the first 2 weeks (the only 2 weeks?) back in the day after winning tickets and soundtracks on a radio call-in contest. I'd hoped it would become a new Rocky Horror like interactive schlock movie. Of course that never happened!
I saw it a few days ago in Ireland. Thought it was well done and enjoyed it. The 'we're an oppressed minority' thing is a bit hyped partly for the humour. Loosely based on a true story with the emphasis on 'loosely'. Definitely Irish people will get the more subtle jokes and others won't.
Heard some good things about the movie. But not big on “bad boys” or “low life scum” or people that seem to be annoying. However, there seems to be a lot layers to the story than the movie synopsis they are giving…
@@BreakfastAllDay I don't think I can type the pronunciation accurately. But if you watch them on Irish Media, like their spot on the late late show, you can hear how their name is pronounced
I'm more in the Alonso camp on this one. Way too much happening in one movie. Too many cuts. It almost felt like a superhero movie without superheroes. Basically a light show. There's some creativity here, but I never got a sense of a story. More like quick vignettes. I think people like the energy of the movie, but there's not much here in terms of story and character. I also thought of Trainspotting, but that's a far superior film.
A lovely surprise to see any American coverage for this. Good on ya's x
We'd heard such great things, we wanted to check it out. Have you seen the film?
@@BreakfastAllDay next Monday. I'll be sure to report back 🇮🇪

In case you didn't know, JJ Ó Dochartaigh (DJ Próvaí) is from Derry, not Belfast.

8:14 the shot where Dj Próvaí is in the bin searching for the trips is a direct homage to the toilet scene in Trainspotting
I loved this film. I’m glad I recommended it to you guys. I’m glad you guys loved it too
We did!
Irish Beastie Boys! Class!
Great review 😊 hoping it does well outside of Ireland
We hope so too! Thanks for watching.
Great to see you guys review this. The Kneecap album is brilliant and I can’t wait to see the movie.
You'll have to let us know what you think!
@@BreakfastAllDayI loved the movie. I’m from the North of Ireland so I really connected with the humour.

Glad you were able to catch it!
I've been waiting for this review, I'm a sucker for movies about musical underdogs.
Can't wait to see this, sounds awesome!
Nice, makes me want to see it. I have actually heard the new album and didn't know it was a movie too
You might need to hurry. Not is most theaters come Friday. (No one heard about it.)

This was a great movie. If they come to your town, check em out. Mad show!!
Yes for sure!
It’s easy to find out how to pronounce their names there are so many videos of them introducing themselves. 😊great movie I hope it does well

I still dont see anything topping it. JJ best supporting actor nod?

Nobody could play those roles except them.
This is a great call, I'd have missed this entirely if you hadn't reviewed it. Thanks.

100% watch!! I've seen it twice in one week because I loved it so much. Super dynamic, fun, and high stakes.
@@filmlandia Surprising emotional stakes at the end, right?
The band says that 99% of it is true
"Bogged down" in DJ provo career dilema is a strange take on a key point of a biopic
i was confused when this was playing in toronto, never heard of it and it had *English (with English Subtitles)* beside it.
Also, it has hints of 8 mile and Trainspotting
That is very good.
And Human traffic 😎👍
This movie is great. The Republican vs Proddy jokes really hit home. Celtic is the Catholic team, Rangers the Protestant team. I laughed my a** off.
Are you from Glasgow?
Kinda a Deathwish nod in the stairway...
