Awesome. Maybe next time, you could do "Start warhammer with no talent" ? Like grab someone who has never do painting or craft and just guide them. Maybe you and Lucas each grab one "newbie" and guide them, unable to do anything yourself with your hand, but guiding them and see the results after a day or two. I feel it would be super cool and also be a video full of tricks and advice(even more than usual), a very condescend one.
that sounds like an awesome Idea! I'm always a bit skeptical about these "Beginner/Low-Budget Guides" since they are still being done by professionals with years of experience in painting/modeling miniatures, which kind of skews the results compared with something that a complete newbie would be capable of (still an awesome video btw).
Don't get me wrong, love the video. But this isn't starting warhammer with 50 dollars, this is using a warhammer in a diorama with 50 dollars. Would love to see more variations of this. Also Emil you used a redgrass holder when painting you dirty cheeto.
Great video, I especially like Lucas's paintjob with 4 colors. That said I think the title is a little misleading, I wouldn't call it starting Warhammer, rather starting display painting/diorama making. Even if you could play warhammer with 2 figures, they are on a diorama so you have 0 miniatures to play with without doing a slotted diorama :D.
You have to understand that for a lot of people doing Warhammer is focused on the hobby. It's a start and a great place if you just want to try out the hobby, and that's the point of the video :)
Don't get me wrong. These are beautiful. Especially considering the limited amount of stuff you used and the scrounging you did to get the supplies to finish them. But when you say getting started with Warhammer, I sort of expected that you guys would be building some very small starter armies to play. Maybe even having to strip and paint or repaint used figures bought at a discount. I'd like to see what you guys would do if you had to come up with a very basic beginning sized army. The bare minimum you'd need to play a game. And Try to do so as cheaply as possible. Then chronicle the various things you did to try to make it work. Maybe get a couple more friends to compete. So there are 4 or 5 people. That way we can see different thinking. It might be a good idea for a collaborative video. And of course you'd all have to basically start with nothing but a set amount of money. And you'd basically have a budget where you added a bit of money each week. And a month to gather it in.
Yeah. I spent the first half of the video wondering how they were going to play with two models, then the second half wondering what dioramas have to do with war gaming. The results looked good, but I would have enjoyed the video instead of being confused and annoyed the whole time if the title had anything to do with what it actually was.
While this is nice there is a much easier way? The recruit edition is discounted to like $35 or even less in most local stores and the paint starter set I got for $28 and that comes with clippers, a brush and a "mould line remover" (sort of, GW comon). This gets you 20 models, a guide booklet and 13 paints, including red, blue, yellow, black, white, metal and gold among others. This is enough for 2 people to be able to play so I'd say you only need around $30-$35 if you get into it with a friend or double if you try it out yourself. This is also a good price for like a Christmas or birthday present and is a very good entry point to the hobby without having to commit to anything. And the Primaris and Necron warriors are also quite beginner friendly to paint. Just priming a Necron with Leadbelcher and washing it with Eartshade make them look like a space terminator, bit of Glow on the guns and done, it's so easy any kid can do it.
That seems like a lot for a beginner to digest though. So many minis can become detrimental when you're suddenly faced with what seems like a LOT of figures to paint at once. I personally found just a couple of minis to paint when I started was easier than the 5 mini combat patrol I bought next as it suddenly became a daunting prospect painting it all! Each to their own though. I mainly do warhammer stuff for the hobby side rather than the game so I'm a bit biased.
@@Almindale Well yes usually that's certainly the case. But with these models you can just prime the space marines blue and the necrons metallic. You cant really mess these up. @@ageoflove1980 that sounds like a response someone who's painted a fair few minis would do :P Again though it's horses for courses. I personally preferred painting a couple myself, other friends just spray painted a pile of necrons silver back in 4th ed and that was enough for them. Everyone is an individual and this video is only one way to enter the hobby :)
@@Almindale Actually I'm a beginner too, well sort of. I did some Warhammer Fantasy 20 years ago and then left the hobby alone. Recently I was looking for something fun to do with my 14 year old son who spends a bit too much time on his gaming laptop and phone. He did have a bit of experience with putting together model fighter jets so I thought this would be fun to try and something he might enjoy. Now for kids that age its very important to have something that is both challenging but also doable, otherwise they will just lose interest because its just too much of a hassle. I was pleasantly surprised how relatively easy it was for him to build and paint these models from the starter set. He felt like he was doing really well and that made it all the more fun. I don't know if we have an interest in taking the hobby any further but I feel its already time and money well spent.
Yeah I was kind of thinking the same. Nice looking dioramas for the money spent but I do think most people starting out with Warhammer don't start with the idea 'I want to make dioramas' but instead 'I want to play a few matches'. If I would do this challenge I'd probably go: 1 box of Gloomspike Gitz grots (€ 28,89 from my retailer), some cheap brushes and rest of the money on paints. That way you have at least one troop to actually play with AND those grots actually are very usable to start a Warcry warband with some different troops: The boss, 2 or 3 netters, few stabbas and a few shootas.
Depends how you want to start though. I think the painting side of it is a pretty important introduction to the hobby and will let you know if you want to paint lots or not! I certainly started 40k as a 10 year old because I liked how the minis look. And 2nd ed for a 10 year old wasn't exactly an easy game to pick up :P
Btw you can recycle your old messed up paint brushes and turn them into sculpting tools. All you need is a straw, fill it with basic silicone caulk, and stick your dead brush in there and let it cure.. it's better to remove the fibers prior, but keeping some is handy for reinforcement like rebar in concrete. The tip you can either cut to shape after or prior to filling the straw you can shape it. Also clear tape + folded cardboard for flat bladed tools and you can mold existing silicone tools with some plaster of Paris and you got infinite tips for when they wear.
@@hyenascar music isn't the only thing I do, we all have hobbies. Think I'd go insane if music is all I did. Hell i even got a coloring book out there. Bill is obsessed with star wars and has a giant toy collection and sculpture of an at-st in the backyard. But cheers dude,
I can definitely appreciate that as someone who moves back and forth between hobbies. Just cool when someone who makes stuff you enjoy, enjoys other similar hobbies. I was actually more surprised about your suggestion. Never thought of using my brushes like that as im hesitant to throw them away. Thanks
This definitely feels like more of a easy way to get into Warhammer for someone into crafts, dioramas or some other kind model making (like gunpla, military models or model trains). Because without that kind of experience beforehand I could see it being hard for a newcomer to know how to maximize this small pool of supplies and make something they’re happy with. Especially since most newcomers to the hobby won’t know that the hobby part is the thing they enjoy most yet. So I’d definitely recommend something a bit more well rounded for their first experience, like a Kill Team Squad or splitting the Recruit box and some supplies with a friend or family member.
Still seems like a lot of minis though. I started with a GW paint set and that was it, so only a chaos warrior and a 2nd ed marine. I think that was a good way to work out if I liked the hobby or not and I didn't feel overwhelmed.
It's much better to just extend the budget a bit or use third party discounts. For £60 (gw prices) you can get the recruit edition starter set for 40k and the paint/tool set containing all the paints you need (might have to mix to get a few colours) a paint brush, clippers, and a mould line remover. And if you've got a pen knife lurking around they'll usually do as knives. That is a far, far better start as not only do you have all the tools, you have all the paints, and the rules to play your own little games at the end. But I guess isn't really a video...
games workshop sell a paint and tools kit for like 30 pounds and a magazine that comes with a space marine and a necron warrior (and lots of tutorials) for 10 pounds. you can get started with warhammer for 40 quid
@@soup_pigeon And for £60 you can even get the recruit edition with a load of models that allows you to play... (And that's before third party discounts, you could probably get it down to £50 on Element games etc)
I think what would be a really cool idea would be a "how much do you actually need to paint a playable warhammer game" you could for example split a war cry or kill team box between the both of you and see how much you need to get it painted and ready for playing.
50 dollars to go to the cinema with popcorn and a drink?! Damn, the inflation must be having a bad effect on Sweden. That, or the cinema companies are ripping you off. Here in the UK you could do all of that for about 15-20 dollars.
while $50 is a slight exaggeration it has been around $15 per ticket for a while now, the two middles rows are around $20. popcorn and soda has always been really expensive as well, like stupid expensive, same if you get their candy as well. still people buy it... it's like they don't have pockets to fill before going :p
@@sweatilaa5325 yeah a slight exhaggeration, when i bring two of my kids we usually land around 60 bucks with snacks. It's about twice the price i'd like it to be. We'd go way more often if it was a little more reasonable.
@@SquidmarMiniatures yeah, it's way too expensive, got a friend who stopped going to the cinema when his third kid arrived, was cheaper to get every streaming service for the kids to enjoy he said :p
You really do do the best sponsored segment videos 🤣! I am also highly disappointed that the grand reveals are not called "Emil's Reveals". This was a really helpful video as a friends.young son is asking me questions about getting started in mini painting.
@@SquidmarMiniatures Monty Python and the Quest for the Holy Grail is top tier comedy. I go to Scotland regularly and often visit the castle from the end scene where the police show up. It is glorious.
I’d love to see a follow up to this where you discuss the process and outcomes, more than just the final result of the painted miniatures: *What would you do differently starting this again with the knowledge from this experiment? *What products were most useful? What products let you down? What products should you make sure to spend extra on if possible, and what can you afford to go cheaper on? *If you wanted to start playing for $50, rather than wanting to start modelling for $50, what choices would you have made instead? Great video, it’s always good to see how we can help others get into the hobby on a budget that will suit them!
A truly invaluable video for new hobbyists - and therefore, I'm guessing for quite a lot of the subscribers too! I avidly followed Squidmar for a year before buying my first hobby tools, and that was precisely the kind of advice I would have wanted more of before I splurged on hobby tools. Not knowing anything else, I ended up paying some 250 USD on my first order. I know there's already plenty of videos out there on the topic, but for s hesitant (and anxious) first buyer there can never be enough. Loved to see how easy it can be with this video, and wholly encourage everyone watching to just get started! And my tip: a few good acryllic paints, a really good medium sizef brush and a cheap syntethic medium size, is all you need for the painting part. Skip the contrast paints, shades and extra brushes for your first few minis!
I’d say the initial cost to start this hobby is quite expensive and can be overwhelming for anyone who has an interest in it. For me the difficulty came when trying to find places to play and people to play with, I live in an area where most shops aren’t very close so it’s hard to find people to play with or talk to about the hobby :(
Just a fun fact for folks looking to get into the hobby, GW sends out freebies to most stores that sell their products for this exact reason. There's a Primaris Marine and a Stormcast Eternal that are free, just ask your LGS, so long as they are a licensed GW seller they should have a box or two laying around with these single model sprues.
It’s certainly an alternative approach, and one that’s probably a bit more accessible for a beginner. On Amazon today: Box set (3 minis, 6 paints plus brush) $30, Cheap model tool set (clippers, knife, files and sanding sticks) $7, Tamiya Plastic Cement $4, Krylon black primer $5, cheap synthetic brush set $2. Not a bad place to start from.
I agree a paint set is probably better, but this also gives you the option to pick a mini you prefer and not feel locked into a basic paint set and pre-determined minis.
Paint set and recruit edition 40k starter is 60 quid gw prices so discounted elsewhere. So you'd have the paints, tools, models, and even rules to play it.
US pricing makes that difficult though, even with discounts those two boxes are $80, and you don’t have glue, primer or a knife (plus the brush is board-line unusable). To actually get started in the full hobby I’d say a realistic figure is around $100. Warhammer Underworlds box (2 warbands & rules), Vallejo Fantasy paint set (x16) plus the tools, glue and brushes mentioned above. That’s a broad and flexible base to build off, wargaming as you go.
The Necron Warrior & Paints set is ~$30, and comes with a brush. Or Assault Intercessors for $5 more. Not a bad start if you don't want to think about it.
Hi I’ve been a fan for so long and finally got a Chanel. Your paint jobs really inspire me and have really help me with my painting techniques. Keep up the good work.
Great video; the tricky part for many people would be that for 50 bucks, the choices you make are so much more important on what materials and what mini's to get. And if you're into crafts already (or usually paint mini's already) it's a bit easier. Seeing someone paint non-metallic metals with a limited pallette is a good show of skills, but that's not for someone who just wants to get into miniature painting most of the time. Both of you had a fairly good idea of the end result... and that's the tricky part on a limited budget; buying exactly what you need Also; it must be nice to have a decent hobby store in the area... if I can spend 50 on hobby, about 10 to 15% is already spent on transport or shipping fees. (but this is just me being salty that there's no real hobby community or stores in the area)
Awesome video. These strict challenges are fantastic because you're not over come by choice paralysis and you wring out every drop of creativity. Nice video. Keep up the good work.
After watching A LOT of warhammer painting videos i decided to get into the hobby. I bought the assault intercesors+paints and age of sigmar paints and tools set from a guy selling them online for 80 BGN which is about 40 $. Bought a Tamiya primer for another 10 $, so 50 bucks seems alright for the start
This is a great demo to show that is more about skill and experience than expensive tools. But, there are a lot of these 'beginner scenario' videos and I think they miss the mark. A beginner might not have a strict budget, but also won't even consider cork mats for the base, and often so want to paint a unit to tabletop quality. I would love to see a similar idea, but doing a Space Marine Tactical Squad or an Orc AoS unit, with a simple starter paint set and very simple basing, maybe with updates that you CAN buy extra tools and paints, but show this and why they were necessary.
Superb to see what you both achieved on that budget, and the how. Out of curiousity though, why not go for one of the underworlds box sets/the getting started magazine (or 2) for very cheap miniatures?
I think this should be a series. To me Warhammer seems very daunting. I'm already money deep into d&d but I've always admired the strategy side of Warhammer 40k, I think a series based on building an army on the budget would be great for new buds like myself to see
Yeah this might be a good way of getting into painting but it won't get you playing. My suggestion would be the push-to-fit Castigator pack ($16.50) + Vindictors Paint Set ($35) totalling in $51.5 (perhaps you can weasel a $1.5 discount for being a new customer paying your first $50). This way you get 6 models (and some paints for them) which make a full Warcry warband. Perhaps not perfect but at least you can start playing. And you'll also be left with an extra vindictor which you can use for the kind of diorama seen in the video.
As a South American this gave me nice ideas! This hobbie is kinda expensive around here (A start collecting box cost roughly the same as one month of minimum wage here in Brazil), so thanks for the tips!
As soon as ya said ''today's'' sponsor, straight away I was like. Here we go for another daft random sponsor section 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 and luv em You guys are nuts... and awesome 👌
For another go around, I would do something like starting a small army, or a warcry/kill team band from ebay/used aiming for getting the the best value. I think that is maybe a more realistic. On a side note, I spent a little over a year in Sweden, and your videos always make me miss it!
Huh, I actually tried this in jan 2022. Bought set with 3 intercessors and 5 paints, bought some tools (clips, hobby knife, glue, cheap brushes, black and white primers), made wet palette and it cost me ~50$. And it worked really well.
Awesome video, reminds me when I first got into the hobby as a broke kid. Had to be resourceful, and my stuff didn’t look good but I played so many matches and had a lot of fun! Now the reverse is true, I have the money, the tools, and skills but don’t play much anymore. 😂
Squarespace are very lucky to have you somehow pulling more and more creative ways to do their ads. It sounds silly but I think that the Monty Python reference might've been my favourite part of the episode :D
Man even if I'd had like 100$ for this I would absolutely fail the painting part because it takes a lot of talent no mater what tools you have, love the job you guys do!
Great video, how about doing one for one page rules with a small budget to make a warband, table and terrain, after all the rules and army lists are free 😉
This was a really intersting video. Would be really interesting to see more videos where you paint with poor or beginner brushes/equipment. That would give us "plebs" truly an understanding of your painting ability!
This also highlights that it's not about the tools, it's about the artist using them. So beginners don't need to buy the most expensive supplies and tools when learning and practicing. Those minis look amazing for the limited resources you had. Masters of the craft.
This is cool and I agree with you guys that the hobby is a lot less expensive than what GW would like it to be if you're clever and don't have artificially created FOMO. I'll add one caveat. Although you can technically get away with your challenge, having horrible brushes is one of the main pain points of people starting in the hobby. I have a horrible time painting with bad brushes and wheneber someone wants to get started mini painting the #1 thing i'll tell them above minis even is get decent brushes.
I've only used humbrol enamel paints, thick and not very smooth finish and you had to let it dry for at least a day between the coats or you would dissolve to lower layer. Haven't painted minis in almost 20 years now. And despite the struggle with my paints I did win a few painting competitions at the local "TV-spelsbörsen". Would be fun to try these more suitable paints instead.
These look great, but I would say with the necromancer that the Skeleton on the base should not have its head, so it looks like the necromancer had taken it from them and was holding it
I go to the dollar store. the paint quality isn't good, but the craft paints are a great value. even the water colors used as a wash are a better value for adding tone and definition. additionally, if you stay away from the GW mini's, there are ways of getting buckets of mini's cheap (no 3D printing). I think the $50 challenge is an excellent idea overall.
So jealous you found Morgok's Krushas! They're OOP now but I'm desperately keeping an eye on eBay for them and not having much luck, can't believe you got them basically for free 😂
Haha! I’ve been painting with those Biltema brushes for something like a year now. They’re quite nice for the price. That’s pretty weird, cause I’ve got tons of brushes, including half a butt-ton of sable brushes. I love your content, and I hope you learn to love those Biltema brushes.
Emil used/ bought the wrong type of graffiti spray can :/ If you want to use graffiti spray cans, like Emil intended to with his Montana Black, then get some Montana Gold cans instead, covers really smooth and doesn't ruin any details. Costs about €5.5 per can (55 SEK). I use it myself and I have never had any issues with them, and they got a lot of colors to pick from so it can fit any army you're working on. I've also heard that Molotov Premium is pretty good for use on miniatures but I can't confirm since I haven't tried their cans myself yet.
I've used these a lot for FDM-printed stuff, like PLA houses etc. It does a great job filling small gaps and smoothing out printer errors. I guess its the right tool for the wrong job in this case :)
@@SquidmarMiniatures Yeah, it's great for that! Considering getting some just for that reason :) A comment high up on Marco Frisoni's video "How to (properly) use SPRAY CANS on miniatures!" explains the difference between brands and variations in brands. Why some act in one way and some in another way. Very useful info, and for cutting costs :)
Good topic, it's easy for us veterans to forget that it can be hard for new people to dip their toes into the hobby. Anything to help get new blood into the community is a good thing!
Warhammer Underworlds would let you play at $50. A warband is 25 to 35 dollars. And if you have a friend or store with the boards and dice you can play right away.
The reason you shouldn’t use graffiti spraypaint like black , golden or Molotov is because the paint is thick so you can cover ground very wel in one “spray” because it’s graffiti
I'm interested to see how this could be expanded upon. I'm also a bit surprised they both started their "budget" builds getting legit miniature paints. I know they're not really as good but I think it'd be interesting to see if they could pull it off with dollar store brushes and craft paints

The tip you can either cut to shape after or prior to filling the straw you can shape it. Also clear tape + folded cardboard for flat bladed tools and you can mold existing silicone tools with some plaster of Paris and you got infinite tips for when they wear.
Wait, Mastodon? modeling and tool tips crossing streams, quite amazing
Thanks
@@CreamAle wait he has a giant sculpture in his backyard of an At-St. That is so funny and awesome
@@timmystwin yeah, honestly warhammer is easier to get into than people think
I think what would be a really cool idea would be a "how much do you actually need to paint a playable warhammer game" you could for example split a war cry or kill team box between the both of you and see how much you need to get it painted and ready for playing.
50 dollars to go to the cinema with popcorn and a drink?!
Damn, the inflation must be having a bad effect on Sweden.
That, or the cinema companies are ripping you off.
Here in the UK you could do all of that for about 15-20 dollars.
15 euro just for the cinema ticket here. Popcorn and a drink will set you back about another 15 (not sweden but different EU country)
while $50 is a slight exaggeration it has been around $15 per ticket for a while now, the two middles rows are around $20. popcorn and soda has always been really expensive as well, like stupid expensive, same if you get their candy as well. still people buy it... it's like they don't have pockets to fill before going :p
@@sweatilaa5325 yeah a slight exhaggeration, when i bring two of my kids we usually land around 60 bucks with snacks. It's about twice the price i'd like it to be. We'd go way more often if it was a little more reasonable.
@@Snacklord_Dennis I live in Germany and I paid 8,50€ for a cinema ticket one month ago. Small popcorn was 3,50€.
This was a really helpful video as a friends.young son is asking me questions about getting started in mini painting.
haha i'm happy you like them, and the video of course :D
@@SquidmarMiniatures Monty Python and the Quest for the Holy Grail is top tier comedy. I go to Scotland regularly and often visit the castle from the end scene where the police show up. It is glorious.
I’d love to see a follow up to this where you discuss the process and outcomes, more than just the final result of the painted miniatures:
*What would you do differently starting this again with the knowledge from this experiment?
For me the difficulty came when trying to find places to play and people to play with, I live in an area where most shops aren’t very close so it’s hard to find people to play with or talk to about the hobby :(
Wow Lucas really nailed the necromancer , he's an exceptional talented painter for sure , love your videos !
oh for sure, he's fantastic! thanks mate
Wouldn't a 40k or AoS paint set be a better start? Minis, paints, brush and a clipper.
@@moco_coco_999 Meanwhile in Australia..... TWO HUNDRED DOLLARYDOOS!
The Necron Warrior & Paints set is ~$30, and comes with a brush. Or Assault Intercessors for $5 more. Not a bad start if you don't want to think about it.
to add on to get to $50 you could pick up two early issues of Warhammer 40k Imperium to actually be able to play some thing
@@david2512-b9h Or combine your $50 with a buddy's $50, and split a recruit edition and a paints & tools starter set. With $12 left over.
Both of you had a fairly good idea of the end result... and that's the tricky part on a limited budget; buying exactly what you need
Also; it must be nice to have a decent hobby store in the area... if I can spend 50 on hobby, about 10 to 15% is already spent on transport or shipping fees.
I love the manta! Looks so good in this video. Thanks.
There's s special place in Norway for people like you ;)
@@SquidmarMiniatures can’t wait to move there as well 😁
This is a great demo to show that is more about skill and experience than expensive tools.
A "getting into playing" for 50 bucks or maybe 100 would also be a fun challenge. Doing some ebay, low budget terrain and so on.
There's some start collecting boxes for around 40 bucks, like 10 minis from two armies thats kind of cool, but yeah ebay would be even more fun!
I remember the first terrain I built was helms deep back in 2005. I built it out of foam from an old hot tub cover and home made plaster lol.
Cool to see Lukas narrating more :)
Superb to see what you both achieved on that budget, and the how. Out of curiousity though, why not go for one of the underworlds box sets/the getting started magazine (or 2) for very cheap miniatures?
using rustic woods as a plinth has completely opened my eyes to a new world of opportunity
I think this should be a series. To me Warhammer seems very daunting. I'm already money deep into d&d but I've always admired the strategy side of Warhammer 40k, I think a series based on building an army on the budget would be great for new buds like myself to see
I saw a redgrass painting handle 🧐 🐆
You could buy some set of 5 artistic acrylic colors for 20 bucks and it would be enough to cover all the colors in the world.
seriously, that was the best squarespace ad I've ever seen on youtube xD
You actually went foraging for roots and asked for coffee sticks. Brilliant :D
Wow that has to be the best square space commercial I have ever seen. Can that adventure party come back more often?
As soon as ya said ''today's'' sponsor, straight away I was like. Here we go for another daft random sponsor section 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 and luv em
You guys are nuts... and awesome 👌
Love the video! I'm glad I'm not the only one who struggled to make that particular stormcast's face look good.
For another go around, I would do something like starting a small army, or a warcry/kill team band from ebay/used aiming for getting the the best value. I think that is maybe a more realistic.
On a side note, I spent a little over a year in Sweden, and your videos always make me miss it!
Normally i just skip the sponsors, but squidmar makes the sponsors so fun to watch
Square space needs to pay you more for those amazing commericials
Great idea for content. So many new people want to know what to do to start.
That was the best sponsorship I’ve ever seen
The dioramas were SWEET! I don't think I could start warhammers at $50 though, that would be pretty tough. Hey Ma! Can I have $50?
Great video, how about doing one for one page rules with a small budget to make a warband, table and terrain, after all the rules and army lists are free 😉
These are fantastic guys - i’m inspired to have a go at my own budget diorama!
Miscast terrain taught me that you can make a very decent sculpting tool on the end of your paintbrush using greenstuff!
You could say that was a very useful Q-tip!
i watch your videos for your sponsor adds as much as painting ..
very well done my man
Thank you so much 😂
This was a really intersting video. Would be really interesting to see more videos where you paint with poor or beginner brushes/equipment. That would give us "plebs" truly an understanding of your painting ability!
Incredible results! Clap Clap Clap!
Recommendation for stone texture: crumple a bit of aluminium foil and then stamp the texture on miliput.
This also highlights that it's not about the tools, it's about the artist using them. So beginners don't need to buy the most expensive supplies and tools when learning and practicing.
Those minis look amazing for the limited resources you had. Masters of the craft.
Emil killed it!
These look great, but I would say with the necromancer that the Skeleton on the base should not have its head, so it looks like the necromancer had taken it from them and was holding it
The ad is actually worth watching when it’s done by squidmar
Hm, I figured starting Warhammer would be at least a skirmish force.
Excellent & fun guys, thanks!
OK time for a short movie with those squaresapce guys!
So jealous you found Morgok's Krushas! They're OOP now but I'm desperately keeping an eye on eBay for them and not having much luck, can't believe you got them basically for free 😂
I guess someone actually new to the hobby wouldn't do that much of scratch building/sculpting but still a nice vid. Keep it up.
I actually dont want to wind through your ad as there pretty cool!
can you do a collection video of them all at the end of the year?
The Black cans of montana has a bit of gritty texture to it, what you want for minis are the montana gold or mtn94 cans
Haha! I’ve been painting with those Biltema brushes for something like a year now. They’re quite nice for the price. That’s pretty weird, cause I’ve got tons of brushes, including half a butt-ton of sable brushes. I love your content, and I hope you learn to love those Biltema brushes.
I would love to see more of these kinds of challenges
Emil used/ bought the wrong type of graffiti spray can :/
If you want to use graffiti spray cans, like Emil intended to with his Montana Black, then get some Montana Gold cans instead, covers really smooth and doesn't ruin any details.
Considering getting some just for that reason :)
A comment high up on Marco Frisoni's video "How to (properly) use SPRAY CANS on miniatures!" explains the difference between brands and variations in brands. Why some act in one way and some in another way. Very useful info, and for cutting costs :)
Am I the only one whos brain melted at that cupboard full of cheap sprues!!! I need them!
Love the videos. Laughed hard at the "bent tip" comment. Most of the brushes I've used for years are ruined with bent tips😄.
All the SquareSpace add needed was couple of coconut shells 👌 Nice!
This video was worth watching for the Squarespace ad alone 😆
Last few ad spots.... I think I will be coming back for them... Manta diorama and journey to the Titan are epic, but those ad spots are even better 😂😂

Great results working within those limitations!

Nail clippers probably would have worked better than the knife. The nail file on clippers is sometimes useful when you can’t find your regular file
Good topic, it's easy for us veterans to forget that it can be hard for new people to dip their toes into the hobby. Anything to help get new blood into the community is a good thing!
Dude that sponsor bit had me rolling on the floor. To funny.
“Root Hunt” has quite a different meaning here in Australia 😂
Hey boyos, crazy paint job as always. Maybe you guys could do a ask me anything sometime soon? I'd love to hear Lucas's life story etc...
Warhammer Underworlds would let you play at $50. A warband is 25 to 35 dollars. And if you have a friend or store with the boards and dice you can play right away.
🖌 If you want to try out the Squidmar Brushes go here: www.squidmar.com/latepledge
Yeeezzzz sirr
The reason you shouldn’t use graffiti spraypaint like black , golden or Molotov is because the paint is thick so you can cover ground very wel in one “spray” because it’s graffiti
It does look very good
Idea: pull colors, mini, and all resources from a hat .. like 10 options per hat and you draw three from each except the mini, just one
You just nailed it. Great Video!
Glad you liked it!
I was thinking maybe a Kill Team or something along those lines. This is more like building a diorama for under $50 challenge.
“Cork coasters”
Guys we can see the giant cork board in almost every frame 😂
WoW Lucas, that´s freaking amazing O.O
picking up cruddy brushes is essential imo seeing as you WILL ruin your first few brushes and it might be smarter is they are cheaper ones
when are you going to finish the manta project?
I'm interested to see how this could be expanded upon. I'm also a bit surprised they both started their "budget" builds getting legit miniature paints. I know they're not really as good but I think it'd be interesting to see if they could pull it off with dollar store brushes and craft paints
