  • In today's video I explore some synthesis techniques and patching tricks for getting the most out of basic waveforms. I had a big list of ideas for this video but I'm not great at being concise so here is half of them, and the other half will be released in a part 2 video out next week! Hope you enjoy. If you've any questions don't hesitate to ask.
    Cheers!

    This is one out of ten or something, most important eurorack videos on UA-cam forever, or for as long as UA-cam lives at least.
    And what a cool oscillator! Another must have that I will probably never get. It is something in this though, to wish or save for a certain module, but then on the way find out that as I learn more, find a cheaper alternative or prioritize different, the evolution of my system is, in lack of a better word, "organic". Hope this makes sense. Or maybe not? Maybe you should just forget about this and continue scrolling?

    • @TheUnperson
      @TheUnperson  2 місяці тому +1

      Hahah thanks for the kind words! The oscillator does indeed sound great, but you’ll get most of these features in most other analogue oscillators. I used to have the Doepfer A-110 oscillator and it sounds just as good at a much cheaper price 😎

      That is a good one, through zero and everything : )
      but I like how Sputnik has the basic waveforms and affiliated tools and In my mind a perfect start for a beginner, or someone like me who have two or three cases (depending on how you count) but would like to make a small system sort of like a semi modular, except the semi is not there.

    Very enjoyable vid man. I love the sound of that Vostok filter! I have the Vostok Fuji, which is a bloody useful bit of kit and pretty much gets a run out in every patch! Looking forward to the next video, cheers man!

    In my own patching today, I happened to play with the high pass output of my I-o47 filter for some experimentation, so funny that you should mention it in today's video. My other experiments were with the DXG, striking it via Pam's to have some pseudo-rthyms coming from it. Probably should have patched that through Mojave, but I was already in a bit too deep!

      Always a good idea to put things through Mojave ~ I really gotta explore that module more!

    Thanks Ali. How have you got beads patched here to get those wonky arps?

    • @TheUnperson
      @TheUnperson  2 місяці тому +1

      I think to get wonky arps out you gotta put wonky arps in. I often have Beads set to 2 octaves up and have it being seeded by a gate from Pam’s. Then adjust the density control to get different seed flavours :)

    I realise you have a degree in 'Maths', but is there any reason something like Function Junction can't cover most of the same territory? I only ask because it's half the price and I have one. ( albeit it, it isn't pretty)...😅

    • @TheUnperson
      @TheUnperson  3 місяці тому +1

      Haha I have one too but it’s too ugly to make it into my videos 🤣 It’s a very good module tho and definitely covers a lot of the maths functionality!

      @@TheUnperson I've been using a Keystep Pro to trigger and sequence my modular bits. My main units are the Bastl Pizza, Resonate and Akemie's Taiko. I have the ochd for modulation. Thinking about purchasing either Pamela's Workout or Maths to send signals. Any advice on the differences between?

    • @TheUnperson
      @TheUnperson  3 місяці тому +1

      Maths is essentially two looping envelopes and attenuators. Pam’s is 8 gate outputs so you get shapes like square, sample n hold, etc. I’d recommend getting Pam’s and an envelope module if you don’t already have one.

    • @DougFromTheBayou
      @DougFromTheBayou 2 місяці тому

      @@TheUnperson Thank you.
      Can I ask about the envelope module... what is the essential purpose? (sorry, new to modular) and what would you recommend?
      How are you creating shape, as in attack, decay, sustain, release? I'm used to having these on my desktop sythns and when I bought a 2hp adsr, I could really get it working how I'd expect it to.
