- The Ashun Sound Machines Hydrasynth is a sound designers dream.
I've been spending the dark winter nights studying the 100-page manual and having wonderful sonic adventures with this very unique polyphonic synthesizer. Join me as I explore the Hydrasynth and demo some of the cool presets I've made which you can grab for yourself right here:

One of the few musical demos of this synth. Nice work!
I love my explorer. If you want to as analog as possible, turn up Analog feel, random phase. Just choose the first 4 wave shapes, being that those are the square, sine, saw, and triangle. Throw a 24db ladder filter and some eq, and you have those analogy sounds synth people love so much
It does have a sequencer, sort of. You can use the custom LFOs to create steps with exact levels at each step, and you can apply those to pitch and amp to create sequences.
Don't forget to hydrate your Hydrasynth. Most people don't know this. A pitcher of water each week should do the trick!

i keep mine in the bath tub
I had to rehydrate mine, it was really shriveled after a while!
Like the patches. A demo of all 50 in the library you have would be great!
Glad i found ye, just gettin around to ‘really learning’ the hydrasynth…enjoy the sounds here, the table..great grain, and your voice…
Yesss, love a Hydrasynth! Not a sequencer exactly, but the Step LFO shapes give you up to 64 steps of cv of your choosing
Your patches sound really really good, as happens to patches you make on any synth. How do you like the Explorer when compared to the Minifreak?

Terrific video
Nice patches. I want one!
I love the hydrasynth every time i hear it and use one. I really want them to make a version with the controls set at an angle, the ergonomics are a bit strange on it.
I just ordered one. I hope it gets here before the long holiday next week. (Chinese holiday. I don't even know what it's about, just that I have 3 days off)
Other wavetable keyboard I would your review: Korg Modwave, Roland Gaia2. Thank you for the Pittsburgh Tiaga synth review
I found the Hydra very intuitive and not looked at the manual so far. Maybe i should.
How does this review feel so retro right now? I'm only joking hydra lovers... It's just that it seems the Synth Hivemind's attention span has pretended it's not an amazing synth after all this time!
Epic vid Ally thank you for not doing modular today :)
Hey Ali now that you had a chance to use hydrasynth you said you would tell me what you preferred. Minifreak or hydra?
I'm intrigued to know what the gadget on the left is. The hydrasynth only seems to have power and audio out connected, so I can't see it being controlled externally.
That’s a Teenage Engineering EP-133 K.O. II
Stop it!! I'm weak willed and I've still got some credit left on my card.. ! Seriously though, great video mate.😊
we're live ho
Sounds great, but nowhere near as much fun as twiddling about with individual modules (in my opinion)😊
Never before have I wanted to like a synth as much as I wanted to like the Hydrasynth but every single demo I've heard has this anaemic and bland sound.
I love digital synths by the way, I am not expecting or even wanting this to sound "analog". Oh well.
two channels on here i saw demonstrating the hydrasynth in a way in which i'd use it are blush response and catenation. there's almost always this strange pattern of trying to look up and see what a digital synth is capable of and either a) people trying to make it sound analog, warm, "lush", "ambient" or b) viewed from a composer/player perspective more than sound design, which is what i mostly think digital synthesis is good for.
Don't make me buy another synth....
