Hey Andrew, so I was drawing normally with the pen tool that time. But once you're happy with the basic shape, you need to press the 'Esc' key to move out of the pen tool drawing mode and back to the move tool. I made a shape and pressed the Esc key, then moved to edit the nodes and their handles individually. I hope that helps. If you meant something else can you tell which exact part you don't get.

How do you you release your pen without necessarily drawing another line.
If you mean you want to end the line at last point, you can press ESC key to stop it from drawing another line
