How to Play Dolly Dagger from "Live In Maui"

  • The Jimi'isms in this lesson are Jimi's impeccable rhythm work and his free flowing style that is always new no matter how many times he plays the song. There is a video link at the end of this video of Eddie Kramer in the studio isolating all of the tracks from the studio version which is very interesting.
Please help grow this channel by liking this video and subscribing to my channel. I really appreciate the support. Hit the bell so you will be alerted every time I upload a new lesson. The next one is "Freedom" from this same concert.
The Uni-Vibe clone I used at the end to emulate the studio version is the awesome Sabbadius Fillmore East Funky-Vibe from Nico in Argentina.

@@CorbCorbin I have seen both of those guys on UA-cam but I am so busy working on these songs, I rarely go watch videos unless I'm trying to find something of Jimi actually playing live. I do check to see if anyone has already done a good job on a song so then I will skip it. But, many times I find that they miss all of the interesting Jimi'isms that I enjoy learning so much.

Greatest Hendrix lessons on UA-cam 👍 , do you prefer playing your Strat in Eb or standard tuning ? I find Eb a lot " bluesier " myself .

    • @millstap
      @millstap  3 роки тому +5

I like them both but 80% in Eb since most of Jimi’s and Stevie’s songs are in Eb. But, E gives the Strat a killer feel and sound too. In a way, more than Eb. And D is super cool too like in Voodoo Chile.

I follow another channel called fuzzfaceexp, a guy from Japan that has some great fuzz face tones but the bc108 ones, I think they're a bit subdued compared to their vintage counterparts. I'd love to hear it on your current pedalboard setup as well. Also, what do you think of G&L guitars are they any good to get any tones similar to vintage gear? Thanks.

Millstap, have you ever try strat staggered pickups (like you have) lefty way on non reverse neck strat (like that you have in this video) ? I keep my fender 69 custom neck and middle pickups lefty way and bridge righty way because i like bridge like that more than lefty way. Neck and middle lefty way on normal strat gives more tight Jimi like sound than if those are normal way. Of course if there's no space on strat body to flid them then its no use to try if you not carve space to them, like i did to my strat :)

    • @millstap
      @millstap  3 роки тому +1

Yes, this video has the reverse stagger Rumpelstiltskin Gypsys in this black guitar. I thought it sounded great. ua-cam.com/video/6IN8z7E-JsU/v-deo.html. You can order reverse staggered pickups from Rumpelstiltskin to emulate a left handed Strat played right handed. You don't have to route your Strat at all. Now the reverse tilt on the bridge pickup is a different matter. That is why I bought my left handed Strat so I wouldn't have to mess with anything. I love everything about that Strat except the short space to get your hand high on the neck. It's amazing to watch Jimi play up there with no effort at all. My fingers barely reach. I especially like the whammy bar being on top of the bridge. That is the best place for it in my opinion.

    Only 1 problem,
    That's not jimi hendrix sound.
    That's FENDER sound.
Fender sound has nothing to do with the marshall playing guy.
The CD sound has nothing to do with the original sound.
Lasers amplifiers are not High Voltage rock music.
    Lasers are current amplifiers.
    They reverse the 3 tones.
Its bass, mids and lastly treble.
There's zero hendrix sound without the fender coil cable and a set of JH signature pedals AND that dunlop pedal at the end. All going into a vintage style marshall.
This is the only way we're allowed to make some of the jimi hendrix sounds AND all the new era jimi hendrix sounds.
We're not able to confirm or deny the signature pedals into a fender amplifier.
We must rule out that option.
So now to hear the original sound we must use the vinyl record as SPEED up the record from 33.3 rpm, to a 10% faster playing speed.
Only at this faster speed will we hear the original performance.
But you might need to tweek your turntable's EQ section to get the original tone.
I can confirm the original performance was in E flat.
At 33.3 rpm Its in between D sharp and E flat.
You'll find all JH recordings are playing slowly at 33.3 rpm.
Once you've tuned in your stereo, you'll realize you're miles away from the original sound.
You won't get the right notes without the JH signature products.
    You're playing clean, hendrix isn't.
You've made no bass tones but jimi increased bass tones by a lot.
The pedals are on and his sound takes off, similar to a plane taking off.
You're trying to do all the extra playing but jimi activates more pedals and his job gets easier.
Its impossible for you to work out what's happening cause you're miles away from anything JH.
The clean sound is reversed to your sound.
Its made at low guitar volume setting with the fuzz pedal ON.
The main sound is with the volume on the guitar up, and its very distorted.
For quiet moments he turns down the guitar volume knob.
You have a tone that's extremely far away from anything JH.
Then for more take off sounds, he's adding more pedals.
There's no other way to get that 'launch' experience.
    You're extremely lost.

Hendrix wouldn't be anal retentive and write angry and rambling comments online
