I’m a over the road truck driver for FedEx ground, I’ve been in this situation many times. It’s possible there was a tornado 🌪️ extremely close to your position. It was dark so you couldn’t see it. It’s always a very scary situation. Every time I have a near tornado 🌪️ experience I always swear to myself that I’m done with trucking but a week later I’m back at it 😂

Super scary…what a horrible situation to be in. Hail can break your windscreen too. Try to find any cover to stop under. If you can, your first and best option is to leave the road and park in a safe, covered area that is not likely to flood, like a gas station with an awning. If you cannot find cover remember moving increases the velocity of the force of the hail. Park and stay inside your vehicle. Fast-moving hailstones can break glass and dent metal, so they can injure you and your passengers too. If possible, lie down with your face away from the window. If you have a coat or blanket in the car, use it to protect your face and head in case of flying glass.
We have those hail storms sometimes in summer. It comes from really high up, where it's cold. We also have a huge greenhouse industry, made of glass. You can imagine the damage such a storm does.
Man, those hailstones are HUGE. I hope you and your truck came through that okay. If one of them cracks the windshield, it won’t be long before the glass fails completely.
So was that worth driving into versus you paying attention to radar and staying out of a possible halestorm? What did that cost you to get the truck fixed and did you get ALL the dents out? I don't drive into the storms. I photograph from from a distance. They aren't worth getting my vehicle destroyed.
