James Earl Jones As a Prominent Attorney Defending Racist Serial Killer | Law & Order | PD TV

- Опубліковано 16 вер 2024
- Detectives Briscoe and Logan investigate several shootings to black people in the same neighbourhood. It eventually leads them to Arthur Tunney, whose mother died after being mugged by black youths just a few months before. After his arrest, Tunney hires a prominent black attorney, Horace McCoy (James Earl Jones) to defend him. McCoy manages to get him out on bail, which has a major impact on the case.
From Law & Order, "Profile" Season 4, Episode 4: The hunt for a racist serial killer is aided by personality profiling that the defense uses to their advantage in court.
Law & Order (1990 -): Follows a crime (usually a murder), usually adapted from current headlines, from two separate vantage points, the police investigation and the prosecution in court.

Very true
Darth Vader: (Force Choking) I find your racism disturbing.
I can't listen to JEJ voice without hearing Darth Vader. Even the audio books he has narrated.
@@TheHiredGun187 really? What audiobooks did he do?
Didn’t Vader commit intergalactic genocide?
@@whoknowswhocares885 Yeah, but he didn't care about race. Human, Togruta, Twi'lek, Zabrak, Ithorian... He did them all in.
He was an actor. And a very good one. Maybe be the reason you think he was real in his movies?@@whoknowswhocares885
This man was legend in virtually everything he did. The world is indeed diminished without him.
Well said. Completely agree
His legacy will live on forever in both movies and TV, for all ages.
This is one of my best episodes including James Earl Jones himself. He's awesome as a Lawyer and loved how tells that Tunney to sit down after he said about a Platypus.
When they gave Sam Waterston’s character the name McCoy it made me wonder if they’d originally offered the role to JEJ who had played Horace McCoy and he just turned them down.
Could be but that could have been highlighted in behind the scenes of law & Order. I think when it comes to James Earl Ray it's more like he's too old but if the money and the script sounds right he'll show up
@@attiepollard7847 Pssst... James Earl Ray assassinated Martin Luther King. He wasn't an actor.
I always thought it was a "McCoy Hatfield" thing🤣🤣🤣!
@@attiepollard7847James earl jones bro
James Earl Ray may have been framed.
Would have loved to see a James Earl Jones television show with him as a lawyer :)
There was a detective series he starred in called "Paris". Only lasted one season on CBS (1979-1980) The show was created by Steven Bochco (Hill Street Blues)
R.I.P. James Earl Jones. Long live the king and may the Force be with him always!😭😭😭
Good juxtaposition from the beginning and end of “this used to be a good neighborhood” concept.
Also, why are those cops handling that girl’s gun with their bare hands?!!!
It is people like Tunney who are so blinded and warped by their views that they fail to realize they are the problem.
And because it is a pretty open and shut self-defense/justifiable homicide case. Tunney shot her father with murderous intent, she shot Tunney in self defense.
Episode aired in 1990, so that is probably one of the reasons. Less need for realism back then, most likely,
@@bkaa18 Cops handle weapons with their bare hands all the time, especially if they're just securing the scene. They've all already been printed so they can easily be checked against.
@bkaa18 if you watch In the Heat of the night, the detective basically has to show the cops how to do their jobs right. And handle things with gloves. Thank that was the eighties. Although it also gets a lot wrong. Kinda like this show. With how cops kinda force their way into things they shouldn't if they want to get a conviction that is.
Mufasa has offically became the clouds and Vader became one with the force u-u 😢😭
Rip James E Jones 🫡
Saddest fact: You will die never knowing how much you are truly loved. We will never have another James Earl Jones, and that is a reason to mourn. We love you Mr Jones, Thank You!
James Earl Jones certainly knew he had an accomplished career playing beloved characters. What art you yapping about?
Just one of the many fine performances by one of the all-time greats.
RIP James Earl Jones.
What a loss. We miss you James. May God give you endless joy and love in his heavenly kingdom.
Man early 90s Law & Order was fantastic.
Me as well
Yes old school early 1990s NYC the city's last heyday.
God bless the voice himself. RIP Mr Jones😞
Only RIP if Jesus Christ was his Lord and Saviour 🙏
"The Latin phrase De mortuis nil nisi bonum dicendum est, "Of the dead nothing but good is to be said." - abbreviated Nil nisi bonum - is a mortuary aphorism indicating that it is socially inappropriate for the living to speak ill of the dead who cannot defend or justify themselves."
Said simply, at death all that is owed is paid in full. He deserves his RIP.
They show this clip and STILL don't have all of the seasons on Peacock.
Really!?
Yeah that baffles me also. Peacock is NBC… how do they not have all seasons of their shows on their streaming platform???
Probably because some episodes contain jokes or stereotypes that don’t do well in today’s society
If that’s the reason, it’s not a good one
Yeah cause they want you to go buy the whole series on DVD "for your collection"
My man is talking and slowly tying a noose, standing on a chair, tossing the rope over a pipe, and stepping off

When James Earl Jones tells you to shut up, you shut up!
When he said "Sit" I actually sit down🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I'm always fascinated by the guest appearances that appear in all of the Law and Order Series, but I didn't know about this one!? James Earl Jones as a defense attorney!?!? why didn't we see more of him in this capacity or made another appearance in another Law and Order series/universe. I can picture it now, James Earl Jones interacting with the likes of Olivia Benson, Odafin Tutuola, Hank Voight, etc. in one way or another as a recurring character. I'm sad to see that he's now passed away in the "Great Circle of Life"! He will be missed. RIP Mr. James Earl Jones!
Tell you the truth I think James Earl Ray at this time just wanted to do one and done movies and shows. The man got lots of money and he's only there if the script is right to him and if the paycheck is right. Plus I think it was old age too why do I want to do multiple TV shows and movies where I'm getting old? I'll have to say he's like a miniature Daniel Day-Lewis.
The Law & Order shows have had many special guest stars and I'm pleased that James Earl Jones was one of them. R.I.P., James.
Thanks for posting this clip. 🎞️ Rest in peace James Earl Jones.
I never cared for these procedural cop shows, but its a pleasure watching JEJ work.. the man could make the phone book exciting.
James Earl Jones was the Gerry Spence for this episode, too honorable to exist.
Alanis, hey, fucking Alanis, that last line there. "This used to be a good neighborhood" THAT is fucking IRONIC.
5:10 Mufasa cross-examing Lumiere
James Earl Jones is my entire childhood.
May you rest in peace sir! You will be missed. 🙏
It is the duty of the prosecutor to present an absolutely unimpeachable argument of guilt. It is the responsibility of the defendant to challenge that argument.
This is regardless of either lawyer’s personal opinions.
I couldn’t do that
You will be Missed Dark Lord Attorney James Earl King Jones.
Too bad JEJ didn't come back and square off with Jack - who's the more impressive McCoy?
Difficult for the judge to specify which McCoy to sit down.
You mean who's the real McCoy?
@@patrick_j_lee I see what you did there.😂
I loved that man. The voice. The actor and he was funny. Since of humor and humanity.
RIP James Earl Jones. You'll be missed.
We will never forget you James Earl Jones
9:44 "He's dead..." Apology accepted, Mr. Tunney...
A once in a lifetime talent. A once in a human history voice. We're lucky to have lived in a time where both were shared with us. Never doubt you are loved and missed, Mr. Jones.
James Earl Jones could inspire by reading a grocery list
So weird to have a defense attorney named McCoy. It's like when Jerry Orbach played a defense attorney.
R.I.P James Earl Jones
Only RIP if Jesus Christ was his Lord and Saviour 🙏

We'll miss you, pal.
Lawyer Darth Vader is wild lol
Rest in peace Jimmy. You will be missed.
So James Earl Jones, RIP this legend, is playing an attorney named Horace McCoy… any familial relations with a Mr. Jack McCoy?
Jack McCoy's ancestors probably owned his.
Clearly they were twin brothers.
They’re supposed to make the suspect comfortable in order draw him out and get him talking. They’re not supposed to gang up on him and debate racism.
Your comment is utterly ridiculous.
@@janjr165 You sound like a good person.
Rest in peace James Earl Jones. 🙏
Ironically, Jone's character's last name happens to be McCoy which will belong to Jack McCoy when he becomes the Assistant D.A. in the 6th season!😉😏
So who's the real McCoy? 😄
RIP Jerry Orbach voice of Lumiere in Beauty And The Beast, James Earl Jones voice of Mufasa in The Lion King
When JEJ tells you to sit, you sit!
5:10 James Earl Jones and Jerry Orbach sharing the screen with each other is something I thought I'd never see.
1:55 Wow, Sam Waterston looks real different from how I remember him.
He was an amazing actor who had a great screen presence. Gonna miss him dearly.
I love James Earl Jones very much.
Rest in peace king jaffe joffer zamunda will miss you your Highness

Probably one of the best episodes of his career r.i.p.
Rest In Power James Earl Jones aka the Voice of Armeddgedon. 👑🫂✝️😭🕊🙏🏻♥️🌌🌈
Stop saying "rest in power", it's a nonsensical statement.

One less (fictional) monster in the world without Arthur Tunney in it. James Earl Jones was amazing in his lawyer role.
We miss you, James Earl Jones.
It's crazy that you can see pain in his face as he composes himself throughout the trial. Elite level acting.

But even with this situation, the LAW should be The LAW.
How much justice can you afford?
@@NorthForkFisherman another fair question
Why do people keep saying that this country is going down the tube in 2024? This was made in the early 90’s. This country hasn’t changed a bit.
Because the American people won't let it change that's why.
@@attiepollard7847 ; I agree, and listen to the racist’s rhetoric; it’s the same thing I hear today about migrants and immigrants.
@@runningbreymedina1475so you’re ok with being invaded? Have you considered letting some of these migrants come live in your home?
Fun fact: James Earl Jones' wife played the sister of the killer.

Mufasa is looking over us. Walk out tonight and look up at the stars. R.I.P Mr James Earl Jones.
Be quiet and careful not to choke on your aspirations... Mr. Tunney
At 4:52 the magazine ”White Beret” was a real paper distributed by a K(x3) group led by Dennis Mahon. Who was later a suspect in the Oklahoma 💥
The ”White Pow Party” was also a large group, led by Frazier Glenn Miller.
Few things are as pathetic as being proud of something you had no control over.
Rest in Peace James Earl Jones!!! Amazing actor!!!!!!
This is one of the best regular casts in the history of TV. Having JEJ come on as a guest and steal the show out from under them only underscores how great he was and will always be.
To be completely honest, Horace McCoy is hard-working, organized, respectful, accountable, contemplative, earnest, magnanimous, caring, charitable, observant and yielding.
Rest In Power, James Earl Jones. 🦁👑🙏🏾❤️
that part from 3:50 just shows how much his limit was at and applause for putting that lowly bigot his place

R.I.P. James Earl Jones (1931 - 2024)!
RIP, Mufasa and Lumiere.😢
Welp. This cartoon example of a white supremacist in the 90s is just canon in the 2020s.
So much for the progress promised.
Vile racists existed in the 90s just as they do now. What makes Law & Order's depiction of racism a "cartoon example" compared to the modern day?
... that's not McCoy...
He would have made a great Hugo Strange for a Batman movie or show in my opinion I never knew he was in law and order he will be missed
The judge has a Croatian surname (Pongračić). I wonder what the defendant thinks about that? 😂
If I wasn't seeing and only hearing I'd swear Darth Vader was a lawyer
R.I.P
Now this dude could be in the white house

“The Constitution says they’re only worth 3/5ths of a white man.”
Indeed it does! But do you know where it says that? In the AMENDMENT section. In case you don’t know, it got *amended*.
It's a little strange hearing him called "Mr McCoy."
ITS BLIND WILLIE JOHNSON 🎉
This was 🦝🦝🦝of Jones's character🤦🏿
And he survived the Blob
A McCoy before Jack McCoy
