    Let's be honest. Watson is never playing another snap once this contract runs its course. This is all the money he will ever make. This is all the football he will ever play. There is nothing that will resurrect his playing career.
    The Browns will just have to pay for this. There is no other way out but through it.

      They wouldn't. People have revisionist history. Baker had fallen out with Stefanski and other teammates both on offence and defence like Myles. Two things can be correct. Baker had to leave, Deshaun bad. Worst thing Browns did was following Deshaun and giving him bag after he had said he didn't want to play for them.

    Watson's Texans went 4-12 in his best stats season and plenty of that was in garbage time. Former Bears personnel guy Josh Lucas explained how Watson made his kiving in college & with the Texans by naking great plays outside of structure. Its why teams passed on him in the draft too. Finally media is starting to slowly admit that Watson had issues before getting to thr Browns. He has the abikity to omay much better but thats going yo tequire outting in the same worlmoff the field as othwr elite QBs. Watch Watson's game film vs the Commanders & decide whether it looks like he put in real work and time off field to get prepared to play in that game. If he keeps it up hes goong to end up in a position where off field efforts won't help.

    Why would they need to tank? When they can just convert the money into bonuses like they have to lesson the cap hit. The real hit is to the owner who swung and missed and would have to pay it off. They will also have to fire the O-coordinator which will likely happen anyways and re-install last years gameplan, which DTR and Winston could easily run. What is the Owner going to do otherwise who is begging for tax payer money, only to hear the fans boo Watson which has and will happen.

    This talk of being in a bind is completely off base. Even if Cleveland completely eats the remainder of his contract, they are still able to pay a backup QB or rookie deal QB. Sure they can’t go and compete for contract for a Kirk Cousins, but that is not the way most teams acquire new QBs so who cares. So they draft a new QB next year and play Jameis for 2024/2025. That is not being in a bind.

    • @SimuLord
      @SimuLord 2 години тому

      I'd say even hold off on getting the QB and draft the O-line that will protect the QB they'll draft in 2026 or even '27 if they want to spend the '26 draft on shoring up the defense, putting the framework in place before bringing in the triggerman to run the show.

    Can't be cut and you can't give up draft picks to move him as that is going to be your only lifeblood while you eat the rest of the cap space you owe on him. You probably just keep playing him and hope he turns it around somehow, if not you get a great pick next year and take a QB to start the rebuild. Maybe next year you can trade Watson away if he agrees to give up the rest of his guaranteed money.

    Sure, Cleveland might go a combined 5-80 over five years, but they'd be building the next early-90s Dallas Cowboys or '70s Steelers core in the meantime.
