@@CheekyCommodoreGamer Yes, loving this game to this day. Got it for Christmas and the box also contained Christmas Lemmings 🎄🫶 Thanks for the reply, it made my day, and for the video, it brought back some great memories!
Lemmings was one of the most successful games from the early 90s, being ported to every system available, from 8-bit computers and consoles like C-64, Spectrum and NES to 32-bit PCs. There were expansion packs with additional levels, and a sequel Lemmings 2: The Tribes. Game actually popularized the term "lemming" for someone who is blindly following others, without thinking .
A classic among classics! I was wondering when you'd get to this one! I probably spent more time playing this game than any other game on the old Amiga, other than perhaps "Out of this World" (known in other parts of the world as "Another World"), which thoroughly and completely blew everyone's mind when it came out.
@@CheekyCommodoreGamer I won't be able to check out the livestream because of work, but I will try to catch the replay. Without reading hint books I had no idea how to finish that one!
Such a good game, I still talk with a friend now about the 2-player games on this, digging down through each other's bridges. Great video as always CCG.
Lemmings! I love the Lemmings games (my favorite was probably Lemmings 2). My first experience with the game was on the SNES and then PC... but I think the Amiga version is probably the best version overall. So much fun! It's one of the few games I'd go back and play levels I had completed just to see if I could either a) save more Lemmings, b) finish it faster, or c) try to find a completely different way to solve the level. This game was truly ahead of its time.
I definitely find that games like this should 100% be played the way the game was intended to be played... with a mouse! This and Cannon Fodder, as good as they were on consoles... just never felt 'right' playing with the joypad 😇🕹️👌
@@CheekyCommodoreGamer And that's a big reason why I think the Amiga version is the best version. The SNES version required the controller (harder levels were only possible if you make heavy use of pause... and assign abilities while paused). The PC version's graphics and sound were inferior (IMO) to the SNES version, but allowed the use of a mouse. The Amiga version had the best of both worlds. Better graphics and sound... with mouse controls.
"Let's go!" LEMMINGS was one of my childhood favorite games on my Amiga 500 😺👍🕹️. OH NO! MORE LEMMINGS was also pretty good, too. LEMMINGS 2: THE TRIBES is definitely THE CRAZIEST sequel, i have ever played on my Amiga 500 😹👍🕹️. Anyway, the original LEMMINGS made me play it everyday on my Amiga 500 back in the early 1990's. And to be honest... I loved it 😹👍🕹️. Some of the levels may have been hard, challenging and frustrating 😹, but absolutely brilliant 😺👍🕹️. And every music tracks 🎵🎶... BRILLIANT 😺👍🕹️! I even still love the MENACE and SHADOW OF THE BEAST levels 😺👍🕹️. Thank you 😸😺👍🕹️. A big retrospective like 👍🕹️ from Vantaa, Finland 🇫🇮.
Lemmings 2 was a different class altogether wasn't it - superb game. I'm saving that for a later date but I am really looking forward to playing it 😇🕹️👌
i did like l2:tribes more, supposedly some effect because that was the one i played first, so the first one seems a bit going backwards, tribes also had quite a theme-soundtracks for each of the tribes
This is definitely the definitive version of Lemmings, but the PC version isn't bad, it's just that the split screen multiplayer isn't in that version!
Half the fun of the two player mode was the fact that you could get the biggest possible explosion with the nuke button. Each player could have a max of 80 lemmings for a total of 160 compared to 100 lemmings max in single player.
You make a great point and unlocked a big memory for me... we'd just stockpile tons of lemmings and watch them mass explode in 2-player mode! Haha 😇🕹️👌
This is a game that no-one disliked. Too bad so few had access to twin computer mice, feels like very few ever got to try the two player mode, including me! Completely off-topic: I could for a long time not place your wonderful dialect. To my not even British but Swedish ears it sounded like a cross between a Manc and a Scot, and today while browsing some of your videos I came across several mentions of The Yorkshire Amiga Group - that's it isn't it? Yorkshire?
@@CheekyCommodoreGamer I see. Well I wasn't completely wrong, Lancashire IS indeed between Manchester and Scotland, although it leaves quite a bit of margin of error. Immediately after this youtube recommended me a video of "The Rhotic accents of Lancashire and Northern England" just to set me straight.
@@CheekyCommodoreGamer Immediately after this youtube recommended me the video The Rhotic accents of Lancashire to set me straight. What I picked up on not knowing what it was called is apparently rhoticity, which is the presence of non-prevocalic R, for instance in star or heart. Lancashire shares this with Scotland and Ireland but typically not the rest of britain. Sorry I'm just a bit of nerd for languages. Thanks for replying!
I had this for the PC; it was one of the first games I had that really showed the potential of sound cards. Amazing and varied sound track; loved this game to death.
Absolutely, I'm with you on that one. Lemmings in particular brings me right back to being that 12 year old kid, playing a game using a mouse for the first time ever... haha 😇🕹️👌
This was such an original idea and I loved it. Also love that the dev in an interview said that the little muppet mop heads saw the light of day because he was trying to create the smallest possible characters that still had personality. And the game idea kind of grew out of those animation tests.
I've seen those original animations that were showcased as a test run... I'm so glad they decided to make a game out of the initial idea, as it's now a cult classic 😇🕹️👌
@@CheekyCommodoreGamer Treason! Blasphemy! But seriously, I don't think one can showcase the marvel that is the C64 version without showing the Amiga version. Just getting around the sprite limitations, never mind the usual RAM restrictions requiring the usual dark magic... Looking forward to it mate. o7
I love this game!! I played it with a friend one day for just a "couple hours" on his Amiga and the next thing I knew the sun was coming up again! I beat it, and Oh No, more lemmings, and xmas lemmings. And later, a couple other lemmings games.
I was addicted to this one too... this and 'The Settlers'... I could sit through mammoth 10 hour play sessions back when I was a kid.... but only if my parents were out, or at work, as they'd kick my ass for playing games for too long! Haha 😇🕹️👌
a classic, loved on almost any platform (and a lot of ports were made!), it was just a phenomenon when it was released, spawning many sequels (reminds me it's time to boot up christmas lemmings!)
There will be a minority that didn't get into Lemmings, I'm sure... but the limitations of games on the Sega Genesis will never be bettered by the masterclass of adventure titles which were being released for the glorious Commodore Amiga - hopefully you never missed out on those due to the migration over to Sega! 😇🕹️👌
This was a craze back then, everyone was playing it. We even tried to play this irl with the freshmen in college, but that exercise just ended up as a drunken mess
Those are the best days - the drunken mess times haha. I can imagine a large line of people not being able to get through a corridor due to a 'drunken blocker' stood at the end 😇🕹️👌
One of the best Amiga games. I recently managed to complete it on the easiest setting using a guide. Did you ever play Xmas Lemmings? I think it was on an Amiga Format or Amiga Power cover disk :)
Certainly did, I enjoyed that coverdisk at the time... really good festive fun! I missed a trick a little by not covering it for Christmas, but its a game I'd highly recommend people play over the holidays if they want 'more lemmings'... talking of which, theres also 'oh no, more lemmings' too! 😇🕹️👌
I guess 'parachute' can be described as a cloth canopy which fills with air and allows a person or heavy object attached to it to descend slowly when dropped. Or an umbrella if pedantic haha 😇☔️☂️
Ah, Lemmings. Wonderful game. Just like with the first two Worms games however, as soon as they left the pixel style graphics the games lost their charms.
I was always intrigued with the 'tiny' pixel games... 'Benefactor' was another great puzzler I enjoyed too and 'Push Over'. The Amiga had loads of superb puzzle games 😇🕹️👌
I got pretty far with this, but got stuck on a level. I still clearly remember the level and to this day I still don,'t know how to solve it. Maybe it's time... Edit: It wasn't so far, but many people got stomped on "Postcard from Lemmingland". Maybe I'll get back to it
Definitely worth revisiting - I always find that when I came away from a game and returned to it at a later time, I'd always be able to progress further. Sometimes, you just need a rest from it 😇🕹️👌
I had the "cracked" pirated version with cheats for unlimited Lemmings. I couldn't understand what the fuss was......until I turned off all the cheats lol.
Haha yeah I guess having cheats switched on wouldnt have made this much of a game - I bet it was infinitely better once you'd figured out what it was all about 😇🕹️👌
