Excellent tutorial! I have one suggestion for making sure the drawstring doesn't pull out. I sew a vertical stitch in the center of the back that holds the drawstring in place exactly in the middle. Tugging on it from either side will keep it from getting uneven and from pulling out. I do this on hoodies, too - even hoodies I buy! I just make a few stitches in the center that holds down the drawstring! Great tutorial, Melly! Thank you!

Got a really cool set of lounge pants that have no drawstring so need one added on the inside instead of outside along with two zippered/velcro pockets on the legs. What you did looks as good as what an alterations shop would do, very professional! Its soooo beautiful how it turned out :)

You don't need to add anything to your waist measurement, you just need to use a pattern that is designed for an elastic waistband.
